In this month's Pro Training PowerHour, Pro Training Instructor Peter McArdle, discusses electronic variable displacement compressors. These are compressors where the pumping displacement, the actual pumping output of the compressor is completely computer controlled. We're finding there's a lot of misunderstanding and misdiagnosis associated with these compressors. Peter goes over electronic variable displacement compressor operation, diagnosing them, and some service tips.

Great class! I find on the Toyota compressor with the flow sensor code, is because the initial turn on voltage is below 3.8v so it flags an open circuit code. I put a little magnet on the sensor so it raises the voltage to 4v and the compressor starts up and it actually works, the voltage goes down when you Rev the engine. Unlike the Chinese sensors that just fix the voltage at 4.38v and it just maxes out the A/C.
