115 - Standing Waves
In this video Paul Andersen explains how standing waves are created through the reflection and interference of traveling waves. Destructive interference creates areas of no movement called nodes. Constructive interference creates areas of maximum movement called antinodes. Examples of standing waves include string which is fixed at both ends and tubes filled with air that are open on one or two ends.

If I can hear the standing waves they must be traveling to my ears, no? So is it correct to call them standing waves if just like regular waves they travel to my ears? Can you help clear this up, I'm confused. Thank you.

basically, a standing wave has component waves making it seem stationary, right? What about photon (light) waves? As far as I understand, they vibrate perpendicular to their direction they’re traveling? would that be the same as its magnetic field?

HI, for a standing wave i don't get how you created two travelling waves(Blue and red waves) in your video. Do you pluck the string twice or once? Thanks for the help!

The blue wave is traveling left to right and the red wave is a reflection of the blue wave off of some surface and is traveling right to left. Where the wave and its reflection meet at their peaks they create another wave that is the standing wave. They also add to each other making the standing wave larger than the original. I hope I explained it well enough.

4:42 It would be helpful to to elaborate on which end is the Node and Which end is the anti node. Im assuming the node is open "trumpet" end where sound is met with equilibrium end of open air, a "barrier" of sorts that won't allow compression; and the Lip end is the antinode since thats were most of the pressure is being generated, and acts as a hard barrier, an ideal place where compressions can be built upon itself.

The question is, Sir - what is the lost technology associated with waves ? Can a standing wave or a traveling wave be used as a weapon ? We see Star Forts terrets and we can't reasonably guess what type of weapon is used. My guess is that some sort of a wave weapon was in place. Also we see cannons that look like cannons but don't seem to use steel balls nor do they show any fire damage. What is going on around here ? We see remnants of this lost tech. We see the Roman Fasces . We know Tesla was working on waves- electrostatic and electromagnetic. So all of this tech has be classified, thus loss to the rest of us. And, of course - waves occur in nature. During Earthquakes we see seismic waves that may cause liquifaction of soil. This can result in landslides and mud floods. Any thoughts ?
