There are over 400,000 kids in the U.S. foster system, and many people think that’s because those children have “bad” parents. Adrien Lewis, founder and president of CarePortal, knows that that’s often not the case.
In many instances, it’s not abuse that’s fueling the foster care crisis, but rather neglect stemming from the overwhelming effects of poverty in America’s families. Many parents are struggling to secure the vital means and support they need to provide for their family’s basic needs, and the system punishes them for it. That’s where CarePortal steps in.
This technology bridges the gap between social service agencies and the community, ensuring timely assistance for families with immediate needs. Members of the community can directly respond to alerts about families in need, providing tangible resources that can potentially prevent children from being placed in foster care. CarePortal has already made significant strides, currently operating in 30 states and aiding over 200,000 children and their families.

People need to stop looking at a Foster care system as replacement for a family. But in many ways can it improve. One way is to Listen to the children: the child can be in control, they can voice whom they’re comfortable with whom they’re not comfortable with and things don’t always have to be dire. It just has to be making the child comfortable. Because they’re out of very vulnerable development age and if you want responsible, emotionally, healthy adults eventually or even teenagers you’re going to have to set that foundation for them to be emotionally, healthy, and safe as children. Stop splitting up siblings. Idk why they keep doing this but their family and they should be raised together and don’t let foster parents break them up . They’re raising kids not puppies so separation hurts HUMAN BEINGS 10x more than a dog that don’t know or care. And stop telling the workers not to care. Stop removing the humanity from the job. We have become so good at a removing humanity form every single job possible. The Law, Tecahers, Customer Servuce! It’s TOO much! We need humanity especially for this job! Cuz these kids need people that care!

@@StandTogetherCCI was abused and am being stalked still by pedophiles who made me paperwork disappear. They were jehovah witnesses who made my parents kick me out at age 12 because I was born a mute who was learning how to speak out loud. They killed many children in my family. There are many missing children who match my deceased family members names. Can someone please help me

If I was a foster care parent I would have to break the law to investigate if the parent was truly an abuser.

@@emilyyoung8552 again I would need to investigate because cps is corrupt and so is the foster care system The foster care parents are selfish and rarely treat children with respect. Look at you talking about the child. You can’t even maintain the child’s privacy. You should not say one word about the child to anyone.

They are TRAUMATIZING THE CHILDREN BY REMOVING THEM FROM THE HOME AND PARENTS. THEY DONT HELP REUNIFIY. THEY ABUSE FAMILIES AND LIE ABOUT IT. FEEL HOPELESS IS WHAT THEY WANT. THEY DO NOT CARE THEY DO CARE ABOUT MONEY THEY CAN GET BY DESTROYING A FAMILY. IT WILL All come to LIGHT, THE TRUTH WILL COME OUT FROM THE CHILDREN.

I've been thinking, why are foster parents earning a salary? Money is too dangerous in this system. Food and supplies should be issued rather than money, to weed out the bad people.

When we seriously looked in to doing foster care and learned what it paid, I did the math. For fun. If you parent 24/7, it was .50 an hour. So I could not understand all the comments about “people just do it for the money”. I think abusers do it because they like control and abuse. Maybe some like the praise. But the money is not it.

I think as a foster kid myself, the hardest thing to deal with is the foster parents who are in it for the money. For the kids who come from bad homes, it is a good thing to be removed. But sometimes kids are taken away for the wrong reasons and get put with actual bad people. I've been in foster care twice, in two different states, 8 years total. I have been in 18 foster homes and 1 residential. I understand how the system works better than most adults around me. I have observed and I think the system is corrupted. The saddest thing is, my Momma lost me twice. You'd think losing her 10 year old, 5 year old (me), and her 2 year old would help her straighten out but it didn't. Our house was burnt down in Indiana, so we moved to Kentucky and she did the same stuff all over again. I was 9 when we were taken the second time. I had to testify against my Momma in order for her to lose her rights as my parent.

Wow, I am so glad you lived through all that. We just stopped fostering 10,11,12 yo siblings. They had Mom and Dad. Their parents were just impoverished and not too bright. The years and journey since for the kids just didn't need to happen from what I can tell. THAT is what damaged them the most. Hugs.

@@renarich4942 it's an industry. 90% of kids in care need not be there. I've interviewed 400 to 450 mostly former or current kids in care. 'They lied about my parents'. There's verified, published research that show they do more harm than good. As the poor life outcomes are no a correlation to being in care but causal. They have a cult like rationalization for the harms they do. No respect for the childsvwell being. When abused in care and the child comes forward they are harmed. Cover up after Cover up.

@@iiiiilllllllll I was completely undecided politically for almost 30 years because I did not have the arrogance to think I knew how to run things. When I got educated in economics, I became a classical liberal and drifted further and further into libertarianism from there the more I learned and verified that markets produce better outcomes. I wonder if you have been so rigorous in your studies to make such claims as you do. Avoid the free market and get all your goods from the state and let me know how that turns out for you.

@@donaldothomoson Not really, I'm living proof of that. I was raised in a neoliberal oligarchy (Murica!) and believed firmly in free markets and libertarian ideals. Then life hit me (severe debt payments, unemployment, etc) and I read history in university (majored in Engineering, took LOTS history side classes) and changed my leanings from that to being a full on communist. Whether you agree with my political / economic affiliation or not, you are absolutely wrong when you say political affiliations don't change in life much. They absolutely change depending on one's experiences and education.
