I would like to remind everyone that these episodes were recorded pre-strike. Therefore some of the things we're talking about are a little out of sync with where we're at now. Also, as we've previously mentioned we will be transitioning into watch along format. For this serial we will still have the episode available, but as you'll be able to see it will be slightly blurred and audio lowered (Though that is the norm with audio). I have edited in a timer to help with adjusting to what that will be like as well. Thank you all for understanding and your support!

Poser Parker is a Stan Lee name if I ever heard one. Wonder what their superpower would be 😆 Thank you both for bringing a positivie reaction and having fun with this show. You can bring constructive feedback without raging over the most obscure thing, and then focus on finding the bits you do like. I'm sure you've had a hundred comments saying the armour is likely Cortosis, Alan over at Generation Tech did a good breakdown video of the lore there. Made for an interesting dynamic in the fight. As for Qimir's saber, it struck me as very Cal Kestis with his multi-tool saber 😆 The episode length's aren't uarming this show, for me, but I absolutely agree I would love to see longer episodes, mostly because this is some good Star Wars and I always want more Star Wars!!

I like the lean fit Manny Jacinto got for this. Muscular without bulk. The longer hair looks good too. He's a proper villain. I'm kinda more terrified of him than a lot of others in the setting just for his brutality. If it weren't for the Rogue One end scene I'd say he's scarier than Vader.

This was one of the best fight choreographies in SW history. The use of the Starkiller like reverse grip by Qimir was sick. The twirling around was a cool aspect. This is also taught in fencing. It allows a swordsman to change his stance and tactics whilst staying in motion. It can confuse your opponent and increase the speed of your strikes. It also looked like he used Trakata which I really wanted to see in a SW show since its dishonorable and frowned upon by both Jedi and Sith yet its still a possible tactic. The use of trees as coverage in that 1v6 fight was also very smart. This show has many flaws but the fighting is definitely not one of them.

A lot of people have pointed out that twice when Qimir was doing his thing, the Kylo Ren music played. Does that mean he is an early Knight of Ren? Or maybe he is the first Ren? All we know about them is that they were around before the galactic civil war, supposedly for centuries, but idk stories of the boogie man can be weird and unreliable. But they were around. Everything else we know is from Kylo-ish time frame when a group of raiders who claimed to be them or named themselves after the legend of the knights popped out of obscurity to fill the force power void left by the fallen jedi and, subsequently, the fallen sith, as well. So maybe this is Qimir Ren, who turns out actually started the knights... collecting the dark acolytes he so desperately wants. Maybe Mae and/or Osha will be his first knight(s) by the end of the series. His vibe and outlook on the force is verrrry similar the theirs. If he is the first Ren, that would mean he's not a sith, no formal training or adherence to the sith ways, but there's not yet a name for what he actually is bc he hasn't yet formed the knights. And that's why he's like... eh I'm not anything in particular, but sith is the closest you can get so that's what a jedi like you'd call me if you were looking for a label.

@@firstlast-wm3li imo, at most, he was sith trained and found their rules just as restrictive as the jedi rules and bailed out to do his own thing. But I don't think he's a sith or considers himself a sith. Otherwise he would have just said I'm a sith and that's not what he said. I think using that word is a misdirect. But truth is, we won't really know until the show is done.
@pemberliegh

@@carlosandres7006 bc the music played for him two different times. If I had to guess... some wild theory crafting... the name of the show, The Acolyte, refers to Osha. It's about her. But she finds out about the betrayal of the jedi, that they were responsible for what happened to her family. She had trouble getting past her grief, so much she failed out as a jedi, and it will be compounded by her anger from their betrayal. For what they did to her family and for lying (and maybe mental force manipulation). And she'll become the Acolyte. Kill Sol as her test and become the first Knight of Ren. Idk. That's my current tin foil hat theory.

This episode was fun, a lot of inventive choreography and interesting combinations throughout the various fights to keep things engaging. And for an old school fan like me who knows way too much lore, the Cortosis gear shorting or the lightsabers was a neat callback to the old EU (as y'all correctly surmised). But, like Ahsoka, the show just feels underwritten to me - both with the plot and the characters. It's fun to see a new era on screen, the choreography has been a blast, the Coven from the flashback were fascinating, Qimir is intriguing, and I'm interested to see where Sol's own 'darkness' takes him (there are a few different reasons why the other Jedi still might never hear about a maybe-Sith). But, all that said, it seems like they've got about three and a half episodes of story being stretched out into an eight-episode season. Hope it's building to a strong finish. Great reaction!

I went into this really wanting the master to be Darth Tenebrous, the sith who in Legends canon was the master of Darth Plagueis. Right time period, cool name, far enough away from Sidious that you can play with who and what he is in the canon but also not far enough away that he doesn't matter. And honestly I still want that. BUT if this season/series ended with a Bith sith (which is so funny to say) and his young Muun apprentice coming in and killing Manny Jacinto to prevent the Jedi from starting to look into a sith threat in the galaxy? That would be the tightest shit ever. And yeah, it'd be a bit fanservice-y, since it's literally something just the fans of old Legends canon would get, but you could fix that just by making sure we hear the apprentice's name is Plagueis.

Yeah it feels like lots of character moments and story has been cut, not sure why to be honest. As for the deaths, before this show started and there was talk of Sith, I said that any Jedi that ran into the Sith needed to die before they could say anything and it feels like this is what's happening. I really liked the use of cortosis for the first time in live action, the metal that disrupts the lightsabers. Qimir can be a Sith, the Jedi just cant know and if he's pretending to be one then he's likely going to get taken out by the actual Sith of this era for drawing attention to them, and they don't like rivals

I really wish Jecki's death had landed emotionally for me like it did for you because I really liked her. But it just didn't. I think it was undercut by Osha not being there. The show was really good about subtly building up a connection between those two, and then it didn't pay off at all. And I get it. Jecki's death is all about developing Sol as a character. But we didn't get to see much of their relationship, so it was just kind of... unsatisfying for me.

I really wish episode 4 "Day" and episode 5 "Night" were just one episode. Both were around 30 minutes and I think it would have made a much better 60 minute episode, with a slow build up of episode 4 to the more action focused episode 5. Some have been talking about the Acolyte refers to the apprentice's apprentice. So we go Master -> Apprentice -> Acolyte. That would make Qimir the apprentice and Mae could have been the Acolyte and the Master is still unknown.

I'm having fun with this show. My biggest criticism is that I think the pacing and editing does suffer in places. From what one of the creators said, they wanted ep 4&5 to be one ep, but they had an upper limit cap from the execs so had to split it. Which like. Why? This isn't in a tv lineup. Let the eps be as long as they need to to tell the story. I'm not going to put all the blame there, but it seems like studio/corporate restrictions may have had an unfortunate impact. As they are wont to do....

I’ve read some of the High Republic novels and one comic run. This episode has the same issue I’ve had with those stories. It’s a fresh setting free of past baggage. They introduce some new character with an interesting backstory and a range of possibilities for where they can go. Then five minutes later they’re dead with little narrative payoff. Over and over. This really frustrates me. I don’t read or watch Star Wars for gritty realism. It’s good to have stakes, but the death of a named POV character should matter. This episode killed off two major characters who felt like they could still contribute to the plot. And why? To prove that the undeveloped baddy is OP? I think we got that from the first six Jedi he killed off. Also, the bug thing was dumb…

I don't think this was a bad episode - there was some good action and a reveal, but I felt annoyance and frustration coming out of this episode. Qimir as the Master just felt like they went for the safest, easiest, and honestly, most boring option. So far, I feel like he's been the least interesting side character - perhaps deliberately so. So now, I need to know his story and why him being the Master is more interesting than say, Mother Koril. Speaking of interesting side characters, losing both Yord and Jecki sucks. I'm sure the LBGTQ+ community had hope for an Osha-Jecki ship, now firmly sunk. One thing that I have noticed that is a bit of an issue for me at this point - Force sensitive characters' apparent inability to accurately sense other characters. As Kat says,, maybe his emotions are blinding him, but you'd think Sol would sense that isn't his former Padawan with him. I will of course see the show through to the end but this episode was a bit of a downer for me.

I really like what they're doing with the story so far. I do like the show, but I'm really having a hard time with the sort of... "wooden," acting and dialogue. Also some of the blocking and direction. There were two separate times where "We have to go back," and one of them could have easily been taken out which could have made room for either more dialogue elsewhere to offer context, motivation or something, or more combat. And why does Mae always have the same... "look?" It's almost like she's a cardboard cut out in *almost* every scene. Not *every* scene; just enough for it to be difficult not to notice. And I'm having trouble with her reasoning for changing her mind the way that she does, it just feels disjointed, like there are pieces missing in the script. I honestly like the show; I appreciate the diversity, some new ideas, the choreography, the re-introduction of cortosis, the mystery, the themes. The execution is just really hard for me. I like it, but I don't love it, and I think my biggest hang up is the fact that I *would* love it, if they had given the script more time to tighten up a bit, and if the direction loosened up a bit to give freedom for a more organic performance from the actors. And before anyone points out that there are a lot of non-organic performances in SW, I'm aware, and I get that it's happened enough to become something of a staple now. But I'd prefer that the franchise didn't lean further in that direction, because by doing so it makes it harder for an audience to relate to these characters. Especially for an audience that wants to relate to these characters. A desire which springs forth from their love of the franchise as a whole.

I feel like you both put too much thought into what the BS merchants and angry trolls are saying about the show, and that's coming from someone who enjoys seeing people dunk on these losers. These idiots are going to keep screaming shit about how it's "woke" and "DEI trash" or whatever the buzzword they're using this time around, and while it can be fun to make fun of them every once in a while, I do feel like constantly acknowledging them just draws attention to them and kind of legitimises them in a sense. I feel like it's better to just ignore them and let them keep screaming into the void, rather than constantly making reference to them and trying to act like you don't care, but that's just my perspective. Anyway, that tangent aside, what an incredible episode! The Acolyte was kind of losing me after last week's plodding snoozefest of an episode, but this one really got me back on board and had me excited about the show again for the first time since the premiere. The lightsaber fight choreography was absolutely amazing, honestly the best we've seen since the prequel trilogy, with some truly insane moves and some truly brutal kills. On that note, I appreciate that this episode wasn't afraid to get its hand dirty and raise the body count; the deaths of Jecki and Yord were incredibly cold, and I just loved seeing it. Charlie Barnett and especially Dafne Keen have been great presences in this series and I am going to miss them going forward. And while the reveal of Qimir being the master was a fairly obvious one, I won't deny that it was fantastically staged; the guy is a truly impressive and imposing bad guy, and I'm highly impressed by Manny Jacinto's performance, worlds away from his loveably goofy turn as Jason Mendoza. The usual flaws I've had with The Acolyte - the hokey dialogue, the stodgy pacing, Mae's inconsistent characterisation - still persist with this particular episode, but I had a lot of fun with this one. Impressive lightsaber action, the most captivating performances we've gotten out of the cast so far, and some actual impactful character and narrative developments, this was genuinely one of the best non-Andor episodes of live action Disney plus Star Wars
