Stan Vitikas was diagnosed Stage 1, Grade 3 pancreatic adenocarcinoma cancer in late 2007 making him a 16-year survivor as of late 2023.
After undergoing six months of chemotherapy and radiation treatment, Stan gives credit for his survival to his Whipple Surgeon, Adyr Moss of the Mayo Clinic. Stan said “he told me he was confident he removed every bit of cancer and told me you’re going to live to be 80 and die from something other than pancreatic cancer.
Four years later, he began having complications relating to residual scarring that resulted in several bouts of acute pancreatitis leading to a second Whipple Procedure in 2013. In 2015 he had several bouts of severe chronic pancreatitis and had several stents via a complex procedure through his stomach.
Stan now has become an advocate and fundraiser for the Seena Magowitz Foundation which funds pilot clinical trials that intend to develop innovative treatments to extend and save lives of pancreatic cancer patients. He has personally raised over $125,000 in donations.
