dont becaus 90% of the ''self made men'' are not realy that self made. this kid got luky he never had it realy tough. a self made man for me is some one that climbs from the poor house that can barley aford ramen nudles to a big milionair. this kid got money from his parents. he had friends that bought his services. its easy to get started when you have people who suport you all the time

If you are talking about a story like the one found in the movie, "The Pursuit Of Happyness" then yes you are correct. For me, a self made man doesnt have to have a lot of money, but more a man who is a good person and helps others. No matter what, if you have more money than you started off with or were initially loaned, you are a self made man. I agree with everything you said but your last line. It`s never easy to get started or to keep the ball rolling.

This kid ...he puts every other teenager out there to shame. All things aside, in this country, the good ol' USA, if you work hard and become an expert at something USEFUL (your degree in 16th century poetry is useless...) you can live the "American Dream". But to live that dream you have to get up off your ass. What a great story. Thanks for sharing!

Family money and support. Many kids don't have that. You also must live in an area (wealthy area) where people need their yards cut, long driveways plowed, flowers pruned etc.... I give him credit for working, but I can tell you I worked just as hard as this kid, but lived in a small apartment with a single mom, and a fairly run down area. Success is far more luck than hard work. If you can find that luck, piece it together, and simply not be a lazy ass, you can become successful. This kids no genius, and he's surely not doing much more than anyone I knew growing up trying to put money away for college, and pay bills.

Justin Bowers Where you come from should only make yourself prosper more. If you don't prosper more than where you started then that is on you. Let's say your yard job only paid $25 and this guy's paid $75, consistency will put you in the same place as he is but with the areas income output.

I used to loan money to my parents not other way round. And yes - where I used to live people would do everything by them selves. Nobody I knew would use cleaning, lawn or whatever service. Plus when you register you have to pay half of your money into national insurance.

I have a similar story. I started with the yard care as a kid just to make some extra money then eventually I had a friend offer me a job at a roll off dumpster company that also did landscaping so I worked there for 2 years and then the next year I decided to take the money from the yard care and put it into equipment for waste removal and I started the was removal the day after my 16th birthday as I just got my license and now I make a 6 figure income and I'm only 19 and I've turned the landscaping into just sod, tree installation and yard care.

1.2 mill man: not allowing kids to work for money is so wrong. You're encouraged to run yourself into deep exhaustion training for a track meet or a football game but push mowing a lawn for money is too much for a 15 year old male... I'm sick of this country. Hey Bud, you got rich off working around the laws, please use some of your power to allow others to lawfully do what you did.

When the Japanese have high level business meetings they always take 15 minutes to ask about one another and how is things going in their personal life. No one is allowed to talk turkey until this informal greeting has wrapped up. This facilitates the feeling that the other men in the room is a person not a number or statistic. This leads to win/win deals because they want to see each other succeed. The kid has it right to get to know the client. He may have developed this skill with neighbors in his early days but it translates into becoming extended family to other clients. One Alarm installer I worked for told me to be in the office at 8:00 am. We didn't leave until 10:00. All appointments were 11:00 am on. It gave him 2 hours to read the morning paper and keep up on world events. Sports winnings, Politics, Civic happenings. Then he could talk to the client on what ever level he wanted and the client thinks this guy really is up on things. Customers always want to engage you for a portion of your visit. Give them some chat and it makes their day. You never want to just say "I don't have time for that stuff, I'm too busy putting bread on the table." That makes it look like you don't care about the world around you and maybe your own quality of work? Near the end he's talking about having all the numbers. For your viewers, that's called "Factoring". There are many resources on the Net on Factoring for different industries, not to mention services all over the place you can hire to be your office when getting started. Many Trucking Owner Operators have Factoring services that take care of your DOT permits, Fuel permits, Tell you how much to save each month for $200 oil changes! and 10 tires at $400 each!. Factoring is the major part of good management. That's why this kids parents told him to go through them for budgeting so he wouldn't blow too much. Success needs experience & wisdom as well as good luck, mussel and smarts.

The smartest thing he said in the whole interview was "reinvest in equipment". That is critical in expanding any business. I see too many times people making money and buying boats, 4x4 trucks, and toys. Only wondering why their equipment is broke down, or they can't expand. Second "know your numbers". Know to a tee what things cost time, equipment, labor. Got those covered and you should make money no matter what.

Seems like a lot of money for only two crews and mostly mowing. Each crew would need to bring in about $300 per hour during an 8 hour day to make those numbers work every day 5 days a week 52 weeks a year. Do you check the books of the people interviewed? Just don't know how that is possible although if you have two crews working 6-7 days a week with 60-70 hours each week and lots of OT it could be possible. Great channel either way!

we use sub contractors about 30% - 50% of sales go to the work that is done by sub contractors working for us. the percentage depends on the amount of jobs we get per year on average we make a 50%- 200% mark up on the sub contractors price. also we have two crews working 10 hours a day 6 days a week for about 36 weeks doing a mix of landscape and mowing also as of the other week one doing only mowing. so now we have three with plans to add more between now and next spring

I do lawns for a side job 2-3 days a week and my rule of thumb is 1 dollar per min per man. So if the job takes 2 guys 50 mins I charge 100 dollars. This method I only use for cutting grass, trimming, and blowing.

The young man has it in the bag. Quality over quantity is the way to do it. I've been doing landscaping since I was 18. Hasn't made me what he's gotten, but I'd like to think I've had good success with it, and being personal and remembering customers names and other details is always a plus. Customers love that, and will always call you back if you combine these assets to yer business.

My parents loaned me 30 grand to buy my truck, trailer, new Wright mower/Back pack blower Trimmers, hedge Trimmer etc.. I’ve been doing landscaping for about 15 years and soaked up all the free knowledge from big companies I worked for and I did prittey well my first year and made a VERY good name for myself and branding myself. I’m known as the landscaper who does amazing work for a good price. I also don’t treat customers as a number or a time frame to get lawns done. I won’t leave property till I’m satisfied and I’m a picky detailed person so my property’s come out amazing. A little help from family and soon and I know I will be one of the big companies in a few years👍👍👌

I started my lawn business back in the late 1980's when I was married to my first wife with just a lawn mower and cold knocking.....I put every nickel back into buying more equipment....I had a trailer, edger, trimmer and a trailer before a few months of doing this after work by myself. I gave it up because of the wife at the time wanted half and I refused to split the money when she did none of the work or contribute. I gave it up and she divorced me after I built her a home. It takes commitment and teamwork to succeed in life. I've married 2 women, both of whom were out for themselves. Keep up your hard work and don't let negative people drag you down. I could have had one hell of a business if I would have focused on it and not been distracted by the bullshit of my first wife and making bad choices, no one was doing landscaping back in those days hardly.

She'll have her hands in it if you ever get a divorce, count on that and it will count as earning potential if you drop it when they figure child support. Better you than me, no more wives.......both came gunning for me and what little I had.

Who are you his personal guardian.........get over it. He's a big boy, just saying what he might not like to hear and a reality for many. Maybe he has a golden wife that will be there until the end.....if he's so fortunate. Kudo's to him though that he's making a success in life though, I should have mentioned that.

Regardless of anything there is some great advice even if you don’t want to do landscaping. The weekends, investments, etc. look up Alec Steele if you need proof. His was an artisan business. the one thing I will say that him living in the right area helps with landscaping.
