Stan, thank you for being one of very few artists who keep stressing on getting the "value" right. I knew that "value" was important, but I didn't realize how important it was. You really drilled home how much "value" is so much more important than colour. It was magic to see how you can use any colour as long as the "value" is correct. I learned a lot from this lesson!

I cannot tell you how grateful I am for these lessons. For 6 months I have been struggling with watercolors. I always thought I was good at portraiture but recently have been so disappointed and feel as though I"ve lost my talent. But your first video, on how much water should be in the brush, showed me the major mistake I've been making. Not one other video has mentioned this. And each subsequent lesson has taught me something I didn't understand. So Thank You from the bottom of my heart. You are the art teacher I have been waiting for.

Using a round brush instead of the flat brush would work just as well. Using a small brush and going very slow, would work great. If you work slow with a small brush your painting would simply be much more realistic.

Stan, you are the great artist and your teaching skills are simply FANTASTIC!! Lots of art books and videos as well try to explain the value subject in more or less confusing way. Your 17 minuts of Lesson 16 is amazingly clear, concise and so understandable! Thank you soooo much :-)

Thanks so much PGaneri. One of the criticisms I get on this video is that I repeat "get the value right" too much. What you've said is comforting!

Stan, I have always loved this style of painting. I have been trying to understand this technique for years as I use YT as my main art education. Your explanation of values has locked in the piece I wasn't grasping with other tutorials/explanations. I like the little windows to help compare value, too. The final part showing another version in different colors really drove this home as well. Your are a Wizard! Great video!

Thank you for this lesson! So many people say 'lesson' or 'how to' on their videos, and then it is actually just a video watching them fast forward through creating a painting. It often comes off as dishonest or misleading, just trying to get people to click on their videos. You are the real deal though!!! Thank you so much!! Your paintings are beautiful!

Stan, I can’t tell you how important this video has been to me. I have watched it so many times when I want inspiration to loosen up and carefully observe value.
@Stanleylestermiller2 жыл бұрын
So glad this lesson is helpful. It is so true, that getting values and drawing correct, if one desires a realistic painting, is very much more important then color. Most think painting a portrait is all about correct color, absolutely not. Happy painting.

@Stanleylestermiller8 жыл бұрын
+Cloud-Yo! Yes, the biggest mistake my students make is thinking color is so important. It's least important along with technique. If we desire to paint anything realistically, we need accurate drawing, values, mood and a good composition. Use any color you want, if the value is right, then listen to your fans rave about your great color. : )
