Bashir would be an outstanding medical professor of genetics, xeno-biology and disease. His own personal background with genetic manipulation not withstanding, he personally cured at least two major virulent genetic diseases (The Quickening and the manufactured Changeling plague), in addition to gaining extensive knowledge of the biological details of some of the most complex humanoid and non-humanoid species in the galaxy (the Founders, the Jem Hadar, the Vorta, and a host of other Gamma Quadrant species). IIRC he also almost figured out how to eliminate the genetic addiction of the Jem Hadar to Ketresel White.

And please, for the love of the Prophets, bring back Terry Ferrell as Dax. One of the biggest missed opportunities was not having Adera become the new host of the Dax Symbiant. That would had been awesome to bring back Jadzia in her joining.
@fredrika27
@fredrika27 2 ай бұрын
I agree with bringing back Dax because the producers and Paramount heads messed up by firing Terry. Had Terry been Patrick or Avery, they would have allowed her to work part-time or found a solution.
@EphPhaThaINC
@EphPhaThaINC 2 ай бұрын
@@fredrika27 yeah, I really do think that it all came down to producer Rick Berman was butthurt that Terry was electing to leave for Becker and rather than simply writing out Jadzia, he wanted to go for the shock factor killing her off, and from a character development standpoint, it did make DuKat irredeemable come finale time but it pissed us all off. It could had been handled so much better and the blame really did fall solely on Berman. Terry tried so hard to compromise and work with them. She went from syndication to prime time television, that was a big time payday for her. And she did not want Jadzia to be killed off, she wanted to continue, and even come back in the finale.

@dainbramage3558 At issue here is that the studio could have taken the series Picard to help wrap these loose ends up. Instead of that, they put onJeri Ryan who is after Picard the biggest draw in terms of fandom to placate the Voyager fans. Meanwhile, they gave everyone else guest appearances to try to appease their fans while not bringing closure to many big issues that fans would have liked to see. It was asinine for them to think Patrick could do everything by himself while giving him a son no one cared a rat's as$ about! But hey, Terry Matalas is a great writer and producer!

Outside of folks from Discovery, Pelia would probably be the most fun to see. Especially if she's just there (as a recurring character) and nobody ever addresses her age or talks about the SNW era. That being said, the character I'd most love to see would be Jett Reno (as a recurring character since Tig prefers that). I don't think this requires any explanation.

Nearly all characters in Trek would qualify for this list. If Wesley Crusher's massive intellect wasn't enough (first season TNG), then anyone we've seen could get there. Even non-Starfleet types, like Guinan and Quark, could easily teach important courses and the like (philosophy, history, finance/commerce, intelligence/counter intelligence, etc. based on their varied skills and experiences.

I think the irony of the whole Ferengi arc is that Brunt would be the best fit for this list. Not only is it always welcome to see more Jeffery Combs, but I think he would take the position as a way to suck up to Grand Nagus Rom and find out he loves it because he always feels superior to his students and gets to screw with them on a daily basis.

Odo (yeah, it'd be a tough casting...). But speaking in universe: there's no canon info on how long shapeshifters may live, so it is at least not unthinkable that Odo might be around in the 32nd century. Given that it's still streaming instead of broadcast, they won't have enough money to bring back all these legacy characters anyway who will be undesirable to the production company/network because they will be more expensive given their longer working history, harder to negotiate with because they are more experienced in the business and can cite that there is no one else who can play that character, and older (unlikely in business terms to test well in the coveted 18-49 age market). I have no idea why they cap it off at 49. We don't even hit our earnings peak until our 40s-60s. We love them, but look at Picard. The fans brought him back but the writers deliberately wrote him as a shambles of the man he used to be to force wean us off our favorite captain. We had to cry foul until S3, then we finally got back the TNG crew but they still have their wonky way of writing and producing. They built up his dreams like a horror story. And they built up Amanda's character only to have her die at the end. That weird hand was an unnecessary horror special effect. Star Trek is not a horror show. Now that I'm watching Fringe and realizing that it was also a Kurtzman production along with Sleepy Hollow, I realize his production team conflates SciFi and horror. Really, it would be great if they could do Star Trek more like Alias.

I always thought that the Academy should have Academy Starships, where cadets get some hands on training with Starship operations and a training in the department they are considering specializing in. Like smaller ships that usually do stellar phenomenon observation, planet surveys, and cargo runs, lots of cargo runs to move the smaller cargo that larger cargo transports don't have to move, with head officers on board that serve as instructors in their specific department, like it could be the final years before graduation, that way the cadets are already familiar with how starships operate before getting their first official assignments after graduation.

I absolutely agree with Pelia being in SFA. Holograms are impractical because the hero ships didn't have the only heroes in Star Fleet and the heroes we know are aging up , symbionts aren't really going to be the characters that we loved (we may love the new character, but they won't be the same. I liked Ezri, but she wasn't Jadzia, it was a neat gimmick to make her Dax but didn't really give me an inbuilt connection to her. Ezri just earned that as a new character). Cast members from SNW are currently the age we know them as and Pelia is just damned cool. She could be on both shows for a couple years (guest starring on SFA every few episodes until the SNW finale, then taking a front seat afterward). Maybe she left Star Fleet a few times over the centuries, just to keep from getting bored and happened to be away from any starships when The Burn hit. She spent a couple decades living a simple life on a planet disconnected from the rest of the galaxy and now that Star Fleet is back, she'll decide it's time to "get back to work" but since she's been out of the technological loop for so long she wants to study current tech while teaching Fed History until she feels comfortable being an engineer again. She gets to be a student and instructor at the same time. It would also be neat to see healthy hologram Christopher Pike in command of the NCC 1701-T... but there are going to be a lot of heroic captains and crews between 2400 and 3069. They could bring him back just because of hotness, that hair should guarantee him a spot in eternity.

Having recruited professors to teach at university, your choices are based on favoritism toward particular characters instead of actually asking yourself if the characters you chose even like to teach, and have good people skills. Data, Worf, Belanna, the holo Doctor, and even Picard aren't given me teacher vibes. Many on this list aren't flexible and don't understand how to actually interact with people. Data, although patient, is always searching to be human. Students would find his courses boring and unrelatable. Worf, who would be a good instructor for self-defense and war tactics, failed as a father and has rarely shown interest in mentoring students. Belanna, despite being hot headed, was a skilled engineer, but didn't have a lot of friendships. That Paris and she hooked up was a surprise. Picard has never liked kids and tolerated Wesley. Despite being upset about not knowing about Jack, one got the feeling Picard never really bonded with Jack or mentored him. If he had, Jack would not have been such a jackass at his first posting. Second, you forgot core courses that all students must take in the first years of university such as sociology, psychology, anthropology, languages, art, diplomacy, PE, and even travel and hospitality management. So here are my recommendations! Sociology and Psychology: Deanna Troi, Ezri Dax (you need these two women because of the high levels of unliving, homesickness, parental and relationship problems) Languages and Communication: Uhura, Hoshi Sata, Jake Sisco Art and Education: Keiko O'Brian Diplomacy: Spock, Mrs. Troi (yes, she gets on people's nerves, but also gets things done), Saru, Muggi (who was responsible for getting women to wear clothes and the clean up of her home world) PE and Dance: Beverly Crusher, Worf Travel and Hospitality Management: Joseph Sisko, Leeta, Rom, Quark Science and Engineering: the LeForge family, Scotty, Reed and Mayweather, Miles O'Brian (not because of his drinking game, but because of his outstanding experience of fixing things with little resources) Religion: Kira, Chakotay, Neelix Nursing: Dr. Chapel and Nurse Ogawa Officer Training Program: Burnham, Georgiou, Tilly, Riker, Troi (it's not all about being a captain, but being a good follower and doer), Sulu, Bashier, Stamets and Culber (the one-two punch when it comes to crazy things that happen to officers) The reason I picked officers from different departments is because everything isn't about flying the ship and battle tactics! Most never make captain, but have to actually run the departments they have been assigned to! And why isn't Kirk on here? It has nothing to do about me not being a Kirk fan and everything to do about how Kirk would carry himself. Like Picard, Kirk is missing the human touch. Plus, his style of cowboy diplomacy would be fine for his time, but not for the future. An example of this is how the Federation President Rillak and Suru had to talk down the Breen from starting a war. The fact that you can't go in most situations guns a blazing is of upmost importance. Furthermore, Kirk really didn't take time to self reflect aside from the point of him getting older. At least with Burnham, we know she's done the work on herself. The same for several others on this page.

Missing Guinan, another long lived member of Star Trek. Also missing Data. Tuvok, a Volcan that would still be living. 7of9, though would be a ship captain her self. Then there is the actor ' Jeffery Combs ' who has been in every single Star Trek series since Next Gen at least as a guest in one episode.

fun thought experiment but, due to demonstrated reluctance for paying royalties for previously created characters (why Nick Locarno became Tom Paris) it seems more likely they will NOT go to the well of past Trek characters for ongoing roles. guest roles, sure. ongoing roles are unlikely unless it's a main role, ie Picard.

You know, it was originally a seven year mission... I sort of believe that space work is tough and that after the 'mission,' Star Fleet officers need to have some time on their home worlds to retrace themselves, work on their theories, research, recouperate, and perhaps those qualified should be given Academic Fleet Sabbatical. In STO the idea of emergency holographic automation seems to follow suit with like that which we know from the Dr. and VOY. If in battle, the crew should be compromised, or for some other reason, the holograms relative to the mega computer on every starship, should avail themselves to mission fidelity until the crew is capable. I think in places in the galaxy, like say the Dyson Sphere, or some very remote place other than that, that yeah, holo-education is really practical. In SFC it seems almost like a template for the assailability of holograms relative to interstellar endeavors. I'm a firm believer in the seven year mission concept, and larger more deep space capable star ships might find themselves simply docked at seven year intervals and perhaps intentional chronologies for mission intent might find itself in a seven-base chronological scheduling.

Villains. You have holographic teachers in the form or James Kirk (please oh please have Vic Mignogna playing him) and The Doctor. There is this AMAZING opportunity to have classes taught by persons with very much non Star Fleet perspectives. A sort of multiple lessons environment. Obviously the students would need regular reminders that the philosophies taught in these classes are NOT the Star Fleet way. That said, a lot more than st54rategy could be learned in Khan Noonien Singh's military tactics class. A lot more than organization and bureaucracy could be gleaned fro, the Borg Queens seminar on large scale governments. "Q's" theoretical physics classes would be more about thinking outside the continuum than inside the box. You get the idea. From a series perspective this is definitely an opportunity for some fun cameos from people that would otherwise not be able to be in further Star Trek for obvious reasons AND would be an amazing opportunity for a "FootHold" episode. You know where the villain(s) that you have been WAITING for the holo-deck malfunction to allow to actually BE a villain secretly is taking the academy over in a 2 part season finale only to find out at the end of the episode that it was all a team work exorcise for the entire student body that only the faculty we in on. Even Prof Moriarty, now an actual professor of dimp9omaxy and espionage, was only partly 3ware of the nature of the exorcise as he added a few lines of code to himself to make it interesting for himself. And serious note guys, if the actual Moriarty is not finally free and an actual professor in this, Star Trek should just give up and go home.

This is a great idea/concept for maybe three or four possible great series; incorporating holographic iconic characters strategically interspersed among the myriad live officers for maximum effect. I really hope TPTB are getting swamped by diehard fans letting them know in no uncertain terms what they want to see, if they want to fully realize the potential for future growth of this franchise. *** PLEASE HAVE THE U.S.S. B'elana would go insanely mad having to deal with obnoxious students like herself. In terms of spaceship engineering Harray Kim might be the better pick as a professor as he would be more patient with his students and he has a lot of practical and theoretical knowledge. Also how on earth could one ignore Ensign Sato on languages? She basically created the basis for the translator and she is a genius in terms of analysing and comprehending languages. Plus she already has teaching experience from the tme when she lived on earth before the events of the enterprise series.
