Zora had emotions. So, how did being alone for a 1000 years not drive her absolutely insane?
@robertbeste
@robertbeste Ай бұрын
Having emotions does not mean they are triggered the same way. Not all life forms on Earth even require interaction with others of their species on a regular basis. We do because we are pack animals. Zora may not be. Plus... we have no idea how Zora even experiences the passage of time.

In an episode of TSCC, here there is a T-888 terminator which goes in to sleep mode after its job is done, in order to wake up automatically at a specific date after Judgment Day has happened. Just from the top of my head, Zora might be doing the same: Enter a sleep mode and then awaken at a specific required time for her to do her mission. Then it will be as if no time has passed at all.

I find it odd that they gave it an A designation after a refit. The Enterprise was nearly a completely new ship, and they didn't give it an A designation until the Enterprise was destroyed and a similar ship was rechristened. Also, it didn't make since that a ship from a thousand years ago was deemed to be the most advanced ship and pretty much became the flag ship of the Federation. They wouldn't have refit the Discovery. Instead, they would have put it in a museum as an ancient artifact. I honestly don't care that it had the spore drive which oddly was the most advanced tech. Actually, I would have thought they would have been hopping galaxies rather than having what basically is gimmicky tech. I'm not saying that programmable matter wouldn't exist, but it's not terribly important to exploration like warp drive is. At any rate, pretty much the entirety of Discovery wouldn't be salvageable at that point. Just build them a brand new ship. A quote from Spock sums it up: "I am endeavoring, ma'am, to construct a mnemonic memory circuit using stone knives and bearskins." Yup.

They couldn't have used the discovery name without the a. The original ship was meant to have been destroyed when it jumped through time.
@ChrisEllorris
@ChrisEllorris Ай бұрын
They basically did build them a brand new ship. No reason to toss out the bones of a ship though if they're still usable. They'd save so much time doing the refit vs building a ship from scratch. At the time their resources were severely low, too. Sourcing new materials to build a ship might have been an issue, considering they only had a handful of ships at that time when they definitely could have used more. I also wouldn't say that Discovery became the flagship. They just sent them when time was of the essence and they needed someone to respond right away.

To us, those structural components would be about as useful as medieval stone arches versus the bleeding edge of titanium alloys in the United States arsenal of stealth fighters. In other words, you can put a tuxedo on a pig, but it's still a pig. The structural components give any piece of engineering its strength. The Yamato from Tng season 2 also had an E at the end of its registry number
@andrewschwarz3405
@andrewschwarz3405 Ай бұрын
According to Riker in "Where Silence has Lease" it's NCC-1305-E... though it is worth noting that its official registry is, well... a mess. This from Memory Alpha: "The Yamato's registry was identified by dialogue in "Where Silence Has Lease" by Riker who visually identified it from the hull of Nagilum's reproduction and stated it to be "NCC-1305-E". When the Yamato was listed on a Starship Deploy Status in "The Measure Of A Man", the starship had the registry "NCC-24383". However, with its later appearance in "Contagion", several computer screens, schematics and captain's logs identified the registry as "NCC-71807". In the exploding saucer section model from "Contagion" the registry was "NCC-71806" instead of "NCC-71807". While "NCC-71806" and "NCC-24383" can be clearly seen in the remastered high-definition versions of the episodes, they are not as prominent as the registries mentioned in dialogue and the computer screen graphics from "Contagion"."

The new version relied on a lot of energy to "hold it together" whereas the original was held together by rivets, welds, hopes and dreams. The former may be energy efficient for a century with no problem but a millennia? The older configuration would have an easier time holding itself together over a vastly longer time as no energy is wasted.

I'm not sure why they didn't streamline the bridge more given the Covid restrictions. I'm not talking the extreme single station bridges we saw in All Good Things, but even the Titan-A ran with less manned bridge stations. Discovery now had a sentient AI. I'm not sure why it still needed both Ops and Spore Drive Ops along with the 1st officer still having a large workable station.

The avalanche sequence from Red Directive pisses off the geology love in me so much! In geology there is concept of 'angle of repose'. I admit I rather naively picked up a detail from a fan movie, and imagined it was canon. So I now have to assume, of course, that Starfleet ship names are not limited to thirteen different vessels? I had believed that once they get to L, they’d stop using the name, or at least jump to N, because M was exclusively used on the registry number when any ship because a Museum ship. Discovery obviously puts the kibosh, on that one.

I don’t blame the actors because they’re getting paid to do a job and to do the job to the best of their ability with what they have. Now, if this show had the kind of storytelling that’s in strange new worlds, I think discovery would’ve been much better and would’ve lasted into a sixth season.

This putting alpha chars after ship registries is going a bit too far, isn’t it? Enterprise was a hero ship and a hero captain plus the general public knew what NCC-1701 meant so as a brand it had to stay. But no one cares that Voyager is NCC-74656 and no one cares if it gets an A or not. Same with Discovery, and the Titan. Starfleet (and real navies) would give them new numbers that corresponded to class, commission, and purpose. We’ve seen 3 Defiants, each with its own registry and no one laments the loss of the original #. So seriously it’s just dumb now.

DS9 was better of course, but DISCO isn’t nearly as bad as people make it out to be

Worst Star Trek series ever. SO boring and so much virtue signaling. Terribly written plots. This series is a shining example of why politics need to stay out of beloved works of art such as Star Trek. Please discontinue this series.

Politics have always been a part of Star Trek since the very beginning. Some episodes in the original series used the Vietnam war as inspiration. the problem is that these writers don’t know how to properly write a story about the crew dealing with a situation for example, a political upheaval on a planet and the crew figure out a way to find a solution while same time teaching a lesson for everyone to learn. They made it simple as hell in the original series, but these young writers nowadays don’t really know how to do that.

Respectfully and I like your videos. As a hardcore trekkie discovery is a disgrace on the franchise. Also if the warp nacelles separate stands to reason everything else separates to, which I might add is absolutely ridiculous. Rant over..let's hope 33nd century starfleet is better. Show missed so many beats. No Clinton's no borg no 8472 no crenim. Missed a beat with their absence. Don't get me started on the acting. Thank God strange new worlds is a welcome recovery

LOL OMG the worst ship design with so much retconned gobbledeguk thanks to Kurtzman, who had NO IDEA what to do when Fuller was fired... Bryan Fuller never wanted a spore drive or empty turbo shaft "canyons..." How you wax on romantic about this dumb show & even worse ship design is... typical.
