I have to say, I am very much enjoying this final season of Discovery so far. Its too bad it took this long for the series to have a truly enjoyable Star Trek show. It looks like its going to be a great way to send this series off to its end.

I think what’s interesting is the Enterprise, is looks like a Strange New Worlds Enterprise. So, is this a mirror pike era? Are we going to get a surprise crossover with SNW? If so, then is time travel involved?

So here is my wild theory. Rumors have it that the events of the Short Trek "Calypso" will occur in this series. Probably whatever secrets are learned here in this series with the Knowledge already contained in Zora will have the Captain telling Zora to hide in the Nebula keeping the secrets safe for the ages (or whatever term fits best here). Also - the content as usual in this video is top tier ..... Thanks !!!!

I think that you’re way off. The people behind the show thought that it would be renewed for a sixth season and had to tack on a new ending to the final episode to make it a series finale. Calypso is addressed this season but not at the end of the series. The unrefitted 1000 year old Discovery can’t possibly be the same ship that Burnham and crew took 9 centuries into the future. The Calypso Discovery’s Zora had evolved more slowly over time than her DiscoA counterpart. And Admiral Vance’s Starfleet is too small and under strength to wage a long war on Craft’s world. The Federation and Starfleet have never been particularly sentimental about 20th century Earth entertainment unlike the forces fighting against Craft’s people. Calypso Discovery has to be in a parallel universe or in an alternate timeline. Or it’s a Temporal Wars kind of thing.

It might make sense if the Discovery needed to go "the long way around" for some reason to get back to the present. The original Discovery would be hidden in the nebula like some kind of Flying Dutchman, but just in case it was discovered, they wouldn't want to have future tech visibly on board. That would explain why Discovery could blend in but why Zora could get Craft to sickbay, for example. The Funny Face would be a weird element to explain, but Trek has had weirder plot holes to fill before.

I'm hoping Jinaal joined with a Dax and the old lady is the last Dax host... that would be a great link to DS9, plus it could have some disastrous consequencies later down the line, mainly Joran comes to the surface. From the X-ray scan, it seems like Burnham may have an unusual contact lense in that allows he to see through objects, now that would be cool. I'm not sure if anyone is going to the Mirror Universe, perhaps the ISS Enterprise was on the verge of entering the Prime Universe following the events of Mirror Mirror, trying to find a new realm to conquer... but something went awry and the crew died etc.

I've invested al lot of time so far and since it is ending I'll watch the remaining episodes. But honestly, this series turned into The Adventures of Burnham and Booker instead of Star Trek. Picard took a little while to warm up too but it was good. Strange New Worlds is great. As for Tilly I'll keep my mouth shut to not offend some folks here.

I enjoyed the first episode, but belive it or not Skytime that has Discovery in my part of the world is forced to do only one episode a week. So, we have to wait for next Friday to see episode 2. If they dont change it. We will an episode shorter than the rest of the world that can see it right away. So there is a great chance to be spoiled before the next one.

Good video and breakdown. There’s so much going on in these trailers it seems. I haven’t watched any episodes this season yet. In general, I don’t love the concept of racing from location to location for puzzle pieces/parts of a map, etc as it’s been overdone and feels tired. I haven’t watched Discovery much since I still had paramount plus. The Red Angel and the mirror Universe arcs/episodes were good I thought. Never saw season one. I’m not sure why Disco doesn’t appeal to me as much as other Trek but since people are varied so should be Trekdom. Thanks for the share.

I found the first two episodes reasonably interesting but I don't like how they play fast and loose with Starfleet protocols. How does a senior grade captain with 30+ years of experience, and actually eligible for retirement suddenly gets recycled as a first officer to a captain who is younger than he is, presumably, both in age and seniority? How is a newly minted junior grade lieutenant like Tilly a teacher at Starfleet Academy? Apart from those, how can you ride on the outside of a starship inside a warp bubble, not to mention the fact that tractor beams can also apparently be applied? I mean, I know the story takes precedence and one should suspend belief etc. but should all verisimilitude just go by the wayside? I can't wait to see what happens next!

These things have bothered me in Trek for many years (in the 2009 Trek movie, Kirk became a captain straight out of the academy after a cheating scandal). I can understand Raynor by assuming he still retains the rank of Captain officially but agreed to serve as a first officer-commander for this purpose. It is possible for there to be two people with an official rank of Captain while one is in command (at least in Trek - they did this for years in the original series movies once Spock gained the rank of captain). There's also the possibility of reduction in rank as punishment. But let's face it rank in Trek has long been illogical - it really takes a suspension of disbelief to imagine Riker remaining stuck at the commander rank for around two decades even if they lampshaded this issue in some episodes. About Tilly, I missed seeing any episodes where her possession of a PhD may have been established. I have not seen all episodes. I've learned that there was an early episode (season one) where Tilly was said to have previously been a post-doc in theoretical engineering prior to coming on the ship. The Discovery show does engage in lots of tech magic. So do all shows in Nu Trek, though it is worth admitting that Trek has always stretched the laws of physics (see the transporters and whatever a "Heisenberg Compensator" is, which basically puts a lampshade on the science problem with the transporters). But Trek is increasingly making it harder and harder to suspend disbelief if you like something closer to sci-fi than to fantasy. Obviously, the Spore Drive is basically tech magic which makes no scientific sense to me. The Kurtzman team seems to have abandoned even trying to make scientific sense the way that TNG and other series tried (at least in the past if they broke the laws of known physics they used to lampshade it, now we're into full-blown tech magic territory).

I think your points are well-taken, but I can give some 20th century insight into employee hierarchy. I was 24 years old when I was hired by Bank of American for their management training program. When I became an operations officer two years later, my assistant had years more experience and knowledge than I had. Years later, when I was the older, experienced employee, my supervisor was my age but had no knowledge or experience in my field. He had transferred from a different specialty. But it didn't matter. Good supervisors rely on their knowledgeable and experienced staff. They delegate. Spock often knew more that Kirk. As to why a captain would become #1, he was being punished and #1 might have looked better than being fired with no retirement benefits. Reduction in rank is a reality in the military for bad behavior.

That senior grade captain was relieved of command of the USS Antares and forced into early retirement because he lost his temper and ranted at the Federation president. Admiral Vance and Burnham tried to stop him but he couldn’t control himself. Burnham naming Rayner her new first officer and Vance agreeing to it was their way of giving him a second chance. If Rayner did a good enough job, maybe it would result in him getting command of the Antares back. Starfleet Academy didn’t exist really after Earth left the Federation post Burn and Starfleet abandoned its facilities in the Sol system. It was only after the cause of the Burn was revealed did the Federation decide to restart Starfleet Academy and Tilly was one of the first instructors recruited.

@@thomashong2938 Fair, as it relates to Raynor (?) and while I get that the Academy is just starting up again, does Tilly really have the seniority and level of expertise and talent for being an instructor? She’s barely out of training herself!

Love Discovery and never really understood some of the vitriol it gets from some dark corners of fandom. They tried to do something different and they are responsible for ALL the Star Trek renaissance we are enjoying now. With no Discovery there would be no Picard, Strange New Worlds, Prodigy, and Lower Decks. Sure season 1 was finding its feet tone-wise but season 2 was phenomenal and continues to be so - a shame it has to end after 5 seasons but 5 is better than 1 or none. It's a weird choice that 'academy' is coming - it seems to be the spin-off nobody asked for. Although you could argue that the current Discovery time is the 'default' time for Star Trek now (even with SNW being set in the 'past' as it is) - I think the majority see Post Picard Enterprise G as the 'current' place in the timeline and so more are desperate to see 'Legacy' than academy. Anyone else getting a bit fed-up with "the volume" SFX we are seeing all the time? It's gone from being interesting to predictable and any shots taking place on the Volume set are so obvious now. Trill is of course filmed on the Volume and its ubiquity is spoiling its effectiveness now - maybe thats just me though.

Dark corners of fandom? Come on, give me a break. Just because people don’t agree with you doesn’t mean they’re bad. Plenty of people have spent years rolling their eyes at Discovery, and this insinuation that they’re all ‘secret Nazis’ or whatever it getting old and tired. Grow up and accept that not everyone will hold your point of view - and that your point of view isn’t ’default morally correct’.

I am sorry but i can't accept this. Look so far it has been enjoyable but from a critical standpoint i cant enjoy it because the is blantant a rehase of the chase with a fresh coat of paint. So it does not feel it is earned. The writers were so desperate for an engaging plot that they literally recycled one of tngs best written episode and made it into an extended 10 ep remake. I am sorry but discovery is still my least favourite trek ever.
