STAR TREK Logical Thinking #54 - Poisoning the Well

Educational PSA where Mister Spock corrects some crewmembers after overhearing them employing a logical fallacy in their discussions.
Had NBC decided to teach principles of sound reasoning in the mid-1970's they could do no better than to have the logical Mister Spock do the teaching. As an addition to the the two-dozen or so Public Service Announcements I created featuring the animated crew of the Starship Enterprise, I have created a new series of PSAs featuring Mr. Spock called "Logical Thinking." Using the Vulcan science officer to educate them in proper reasoning is "Only Logical" as he states at the end of each PSA.
Done in the style of Filmation's 1973-75 Animated STAR TREK series.

Spock needs to interview candidates for political office and challenge their arguments. Spock would call out the "what about" and ad hominem arguments and explain to America how illogical they are! Kirk & Spock 2024!

@@S1nwar Excuse me gentlemen. I couldn't help but overhear. These lessons in philosophical logic are to train the listener as well as the speaker. Most speakers that employ these fallacies know full well they are cheating and mischaracterizing the opponent to win at any cost. We the listener must be vigilant to notice such tactics and therefore object to them...even in absentia. For when we hear a modern news reporter employ such a logical fallacy....which we do every day....then we should grow suspect of anything that reporter presents following such. We should look for more context or seek a more objective presenter. We might even go to live coverage in full of such an event, if it exists, and try to gather data OBJECTIVELY without the chatter of the biased talking heads.

Dr Jaeger seemed very open-minded and humble in the one episode he appeared in. It's like it's a completely different character.

It seems one could also sweeten the well just as fallaciously.

Speaking against another may not always be poisoning the well, it may be factual. Example - A person with no medical qualifications giving medical or psychological advice to another.
