"Seth Trek" _The Orville_ is the spiritual successor to ST:TNG written **by fans for fans.** _Star Trash: Disaster, Star Lard: Retard_ and _Star Wreck: Lower Dreck_ are written by non-fans for non-fans -- and it shows. Missed the entire fucking point of what Star Trek was about: A journey about self discovery with space as the backdrop. If Alex "Klutzman" can't even bothered to watch ST:TNG and learn WHY it was good then I can't be bothered to watch his crap.

I watched the first episode and was less outraged by it than I was by Discovery, Picard or Abrams Trek. Its trying to be Rick and Morty and its way too hyperactive and fast paced with too much focus on wacky action.....like Rick and Morty. But it didn't directly shit on any of the lore and it wasn't trying to be edgy and grim dark. If it was slower paced, the hyperactivity of the black chick was toned down and it tried to be more like Futurama than Rick and Morty I might even enjoy it. Its not really Star Trek but its actually closer to it than Kurtzman or Abram's various abortions and its mildly amusing. Obviously its not what I'd do with Star Trek but after seeing Trek so thoroughly raped over the past decade I can't really say the pilot really bothered me. A decade ago I'd have been pissed but at this point I honestly expected worse.

I tried to like this show as well; but Beckett Mariner is insufferable. When she literally drunkenly stabbed Brad Boimler with the bat'lith and it is done in the Rick & Morty comedy style I knew this show was not going to be good. Then the intro takes the piss on Voyager's intro. And it just got worse from there. Stunning and brave female runs over everyone else with a "dudebro" mindset that would get a normal regular male crucified in 2020. No; just no.

Future Real Life will probably end up looking like Star Trek, Star Trek has inspired so much technology from smart phones to tablets, to Bluetooth headsets, those were way back in the TOS when Uhura had one as the communications officer, even NASA is developing warp technology based on feasible scientific concepts that were first introduced in Star Trek, I just hope they get the transporter/teleporter technology correct, cause the Montauk gate had a lot of problems with wave synchronization when dealing with refractory surfaces at the point of arrival.

Yep. One of the things that turns me off from reviewers like this (and keeps me from subscribing) is that the hatred is so one dimensional that they’ll stretch things out to make their point. Everything in the Orville comparison section was a HUGE stretch - and not needed to make a point. Kurtzman is ripping off a lot, but Orville isn’t one of them - focus on ripping off Rick and Morty - that anyone can plainly see. When you have stuff like this that’s just not very good, you don’t need to make things up to prove your point. The host has obviously long ago stopped making good arguments and is now just playing to the lowest common denominator.

Ok I got done watching the first episode and honestly, it has potential, not saying it was amazing, but I felt like they were actually trying to say something with this show. It's about the lower decks and the purple hair guy basically worships the higher ups and that's a toxic thing to do to yourself, it's even proved by the end when the captain of the ship doesn't even credit him for bringing the slime that cured the zombie disease that saved them all, and I thought that was rather a compelling concept that has volume in today's world. With better execution and maybe some other changes, this show could've been something special.

I wish they had gone the way of clone wars animation, or perhaps the new Star Wars Resistance in animation and humour. Oh well, can't always get what you want. I will watch Lower Decks to see how it goes. It's different, but I'm willing to give it a go.

I have never watched any Star Trek media but I have always seen the references in modern pop culture. It was a solid 7/10 for me. A little weak in the pacing and the forced humor but it was all very honest. I Enjoyed it and I would watch it again in 2/3 years time. A 7/10 is not bad. Its not bad at all and I can say that it warrants a second season. Im looking at it as a standalone bit of media and it is decent. I get that Star Trek fans would find it hard to watch as I have been in that situation with spinoffs of other franchises..... Two things can be true at the same time. It is good, not great, but good on its own. It is trash and hard two watch if you are familiar with other Star Trek work.

You made a lot of comparisons with the Orvilles but I’m surprised that you disliked it so much. Personally i’d like to give a show at least a few more episodes before judging it so harshly. His other shows weren’t really good but I think Lower Decks could actually be a far better show than expected. It seems far more balanced than Discovery and Picard.

Yes, Star Trek is based in the navy. The fact that the Captain has to **waste valuable time verbally telling** another officer _Shields up!_ or _Shields at maximum strength!_ or _Evasive maneuvers_ instead of just hitting a dam button himself which, at minimum, is a few seconds -- usually in a life and death situation -- means Gene Roddenberry didn't actually **think** about how a real starship should operate because he was used to the S-L-O-W speeds of ships on water.

Like the Bat'leth which belonged to Martok, the space station from "The Search for Spock", and the fact that the ships doctor is a Caitian. Unlike Discovery and Picard, there are real attempts in Lower Decks to connect it to the canon of Classic Trek. This show is right up there with TNG, DS9 and VOY. "Star Trek" used to be about social progress, togetherness in the face of adversity, cooperation in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. Now it's just self-righteous diatribes and invectives from ineffective, talentless hacks who think they are doing the world a service. "Star Trek" was a "rising tide lifts all boats" franchise characterised by introspection, intelligence and a sense of wonder. But foremost it never abandoned it's underlying optimism (yeah even DS-9). Now it's all a depressingly empty parade of bitterness, spite and taking a huge dump on what the franchise and it's fandom tried to establish. Look at what happened to Picard who has been transformed from a hero, to a bitter, angry failure of a man. This new Trek has nothing to do with Gene Roddenberry's vision. Many can't or want to see that...and thus the current downslide into mediocrity and irrelevance. Now apply that too other franchises...

I am enjoying this show. It has so many of the situations that have been discussed by the ST fans I hang around with that I found it to be fun. What you probably don't like about it is that it is more of a comedy than an adventure show.

i watched now all 10 episodes and ... i give it 9/10 ... its a superfun watch and for someone like me that really hates discovery this is star trek back to how it was. Its a fun watch without all the dark big sadness and shit discovery have but back to fun stories and just being amazing. you have no open mind come on you had ur oppinion before it started xD its no masterpiece but its better then picard and for sure better then discovery. its also really easy seen in the ratings 25% give it 10/10 over 70% give it 7star or more and then 15% giving it 1 star ... you always have haters and this is something different and so people start to hate it xD

Give it a shot I made a comment on this video I will put it in here. It good give it a watch I disagree with you and here is why. PARALLELS: First of all the parallel to make with the Orville are there but I don't really see the issue they're taking ideas from a similar show that is Great. MARINER: Ensign mariner is a normal trope of somebody who is being kept down by their personality. It's showing that she has wasted potential. I don't see the issue with that. She is not like Michael because she has a likeable personality and flaws. Michael has no flaws and works on logic (which is always a positive trait in Star Trek Discovery even though the downfall was because of logic so strange) which is her downfall making her non relatable. TANDY: Ensign Tandy seems to be a person who is excited about getting into Starfleet and it's learning that is not all it crack up to be. she's person has been training her whole life to enter Starfleet so of course she'd be enthusiastic about it. and she's either going to go deeper into that hole which would be funny but if you go the other way round and starts to realise that it's not all that good then we could have some interesting character development and story arcs. RUTHERFORD: He did not get a lot of screen time so we don't know much about him but he seems to have a good work ethic and is a bit too involved with this work. BULMER: He is someone the general audience is meant to represent. He is somebody that is confident kind and hard-working but a little incompetent a normal trope and a fun one. I don't see any sjw undertones to him but time will tell "RECKLESS MALE": I think this is coming out of your ass. There ment to represent the bad parts of the upper command that often glossed over in Star Trek next generation because these are the people we care about. So there jointly interactions with the rest of the crew we don't normally care about making a hierarchical structure. DR TIANA: DR Tiana didn't get my much screen time but what we can tell from the little we saw of her is that she has published many papers in the past and from the interaction she had with the captain. And due to her taking credit for the virus which our lowery ranking officers solved. We can extrapolate that she did this in the past take credit for stuff she didn't do or played little part in. FREEMAN: What tell the little of the first is that she is a horrible mother and she demands obedience from her crew making her a not so good captain so due to that have conflict with the rest of the lowly ranking crew. "BUREAUCRATIC STARFLEET": The whole point of that scene was not to show her in the right it's because we have a few of of her from the opening scenes that she is irresponsible. But the show was the paint Her as responsible but a little off the edge. And bureaucracy is what often people bottom have to experience And touches on that the federation might be overstretched which deep space nine referenced. There's nothing wrong with this scene is just trying to do a bit of worldbuilding. Not to paint anybody in the right or wrong or to make bulmer look like an imbecile for what he was doing. Hes doing what we in that situation if we were so induction does he is. It's funny incompetent. "NOTHING HAPPENS": it's the pilot episode they need to do some worldbuilding the pilot is often the weakest episode of a series look at the first season of Star Trek next generation it's not good. "ITS NOT STAR TREK": well no it isn't it's a Star Trek show it is simply a comedy in space they just added the IP because it is valuable and they have it and they might as well. that is a built-in fan base which will watch the show so that's why I ended it it's not really a Star Trek show it's a comedy with Star Trek on the side. "BAD RICK ABD MORTY EPISODE": One of the writer's is from Rick and Morty so it makes sense that they were writing the things they know it's not bad it's a pilot it's meant to do some worldbuilding it does well I have high hopes for the show and it's even if it does you some ideas from other shows and other writings from other shows it's all abouthow good the show is if it's plagiarizing then that's awful but it's just using some ideas not plagiarism. "ANIMATION STYLE": I don't see any issue with the styleI don't know where you're coming from so I'll just leave this tiny note here. RIPPING ON ALEX KURTZMAN: I don't like him personally but saying that he's not hiring people because he thinks he can do it better and blah blah blah his way he's incompetent is not true. Maybe there are things that we don't see behind the scenes why these people are getting hired. I would like to see them hired but I can't influence that... FOR NOW ITS NOT STAR TREK: As you said earlier and your video you could take all the Star Trek things out and it will just be a normal TV show or a bad episode of Rick and Morty. The Star Trek is appended because if it's IP value. Nothing more. I think we should uphold it to Lesser standards. It's more of its family guy in Star Trek next generation. Can we just enjoy it as a funny space adventure and not to a normal Star Trek show. they failed with discovery so they're trying something new there's no read need to hate it so early there's no need for all these assumptions TIME WILL TELL: If you're right I will a edit at the end when the Star Trek series is over if it is a gender politics mayhem but if not you're gonna have to make a video no matter if you read my comment or not about how it is good. THANK YOU FOR READING 💓

I absolutely hated Star Trek Picard and don’t care for Discovery. I also believe Kurtzman is a hack. However, I really really liked Lower Decks and I was suspicious that Kurtzman had anything to do with Lower Decks because it wasn’t written like a disjointed train wreck and the characters are well developed. As far as him being a producer for Lower Decks, I seriously doubt he had anything to do with it creatively / writing sense (as I was typing this Nerdtrotic mentioned that Kurtzman had no direct involvement with it). It really sucks that hack Alex Kurtzman’s name pops up in the opening credits as well.. when I see that I get this “ugh” feeling, and I believe Lower Decks gets a lot of unfair and biased hate because of it.

@Social Hand Grenade Because we seek love and belonging with one another. What you call "validating opinions" is simply what it means to be a community. Stop being so cynical. We are not animals. Lets love and care for one another.
@mr.wilder796

@Social Hand Grenade We can both agree that "Top Critic" is a title given to a person with experience (hopefully extensive) in the field of their critique. And of course we don't have to put value on a critic's opinion. But there is nothing wrong with trying to understand or even agreeing with someone else's opinion. It has nothing to do with "needing permission." We are indeed biological organisms. But to call us animals is extremely cynical. I know that it is popular to do so in modern society. But it is a delusion to think that mankind is just a "very smart ape". That you and I, two human beings, can right now have this conversation is proof of that. You are more than an animal. You are a smart capable person...with the capacity to love and care for your fellow man even when it doesn't benefit yourself. Stay strong. Life is not easy...but there is true meaning if you look for it.

I just like good productions and Lower Decks is terrible. It's so poorly written and the majority of the actors are so bland it's made it only possible for me to get halfway through the 2nd episode before giving up and I'm quite stubborn. The guy has some valid points that Star Trek is so bad atm I struggled to watch any of them, they are just terrible. At least Gene isn't around to see the mess.

@@nothingsurprisesmeanymore I think you really should give it another chance. I just finished the season and while I really hated the first three episodes, imo it got way better after that. Despite it basically being a parody, to me it felt way more like Star Trek than Discovery or Picard did. I can't say how much they ripped off the Orville though, cause I still have to watch that.
