Hers was good, but Uhura stole the show. The fact she has a Grammy and a Tony under her belt didn't hurt at all. I did love her song though. Between her, Peck and this one it is so hard to pick.

If there is not an Emmy for Best Musical Performance in a TV Series, the Academy needs to invent one and just award it to Christina Chong right now. My god, I had tears streaming by the end of this song-she SOLD IT. My heartfelt kudos to the writers, musicians, and Ms Chong. If this was Broadway, that number would be on Christina’s Tony Award nomination reel.

La'an getting to a point where she was able to say everything to Kirk without being forced to by singing (okay the threat was still there, but everyone else had to actually sing) really shows off her character growth. When I heard her singing in the first season I thought "Ok, she MUST be a real singer!" and that the production would have to let her sing in another episode, but - it's STAR TREK. ST and singing? Well, I didn't think, this could work, but it does - totally. I really like the songs and of course (!) the voices, this song and "Uhura's" Keep us connected (when I heard her voice in the first season, I liked it and thought "Why not some more later in the show?") are my favouites and Ethan Peck's voice in his song with slipping deeper for one word - amazing, I think. I'm male and born in the 60', so I grew up with the original crew and this series (I own all of them) is defenitely the one I like most - after the original series. Well, let's say, they're nearly equal and they both have their special qualities. Hope, there's more to come from SNW - more than 4 seasons as in TOS. That show always was to short...

I appreciate this song for all the below stated reasons. But also for something Trek almost never does. Mourning the one-off love interests in following episodes. James was one of these, but La’an felt something for him, and she is still grieving his death. Kirk never visibly mourned Edith after her death, but La’an is allowed to mourn for James in her own way. Her fantasy here of getting to love him in their hotel room hit me right in the feels. I doubt they will ever talk about James after this episode, and if they don’t, this was a powerful send off to a man who died to save the world and nobody will ever know except the one person who was falling in love with him. Though… I could see a world where the corpse in the Daystom Institute was secretly his… somehow.

Did I hear that right? Did she just shine a spotlight On her innermost feelings like it’s no big deal Say whatever, whenever you like? You’d presume with all my mastery To pursue flights of fancy, easy. Who am I kidding? I’ve never found that part of me. Cause I’m designed to color inside the lines, Cool and methodical, Way too responsible, I can’t help it. Sometimes I peek through a keyhole and see people happy, I admit… It might Be time to change my paradigm If only I can let go of the wheel. My fear replaced with total faith, I’m fiercely free and really real. Flying blind, How would that feel? This all makes me so uncomfortable I want to let go, be vulnerable. Who am I kidding? I’ve never met that side of me. In my defense, The truth has a consequence. I won’t watch the whole thing Spin out of control If I have the chance. It might Be time to change my paradigm If I can only let go of the wheel. My fear replaced with total faith, I’m fiercely free and really real. Flying blind, How would that feel? In another Time we had a life together Could time repeat Or will it unravel Be careful what you start Make one mistake and blow it all apart Or worse Break my own heart Who am I kidding? I’ve never found that part of me. It might Be time to change my paradigm If only I can let go of the wheel It’s nice To dream that I could change my mind Deep down I know I will never let go My fear is staked, I have no faith, Contented freedom is not real. Admittedly, I was very skeptical of a musical Star Trek episode. However, having disappointingly surrendered any hope that SNWs would be realistic "adult-ish" Star Trek (except for a handful of episodes), this episode was actually super, super entertaining. I couldn't help but be impressed, particularly by Christina Chong. She's (IMO) the standout actor on the show, and now that we've heard her singing, she is clearly a powerhouse talent. Great song! the best of the episode. It directly caught me. So much emotion and she sings about the stuff we all deal with at times.
