Man, I really need to watch the HD version of this. It's probably silly of me to ask, but do you still own a copy of this movie on VHS as well? I know my parents still do. They've got that version that came out in the early 90's with the spine artwork that completes an image of the Enterprise A in front of a red nebula.

I _HATE_ them. I have a bunch of blank cases set aside to immediately replace the packaging from box sets, but I also hate that cause then it looks like I just own a bunch of fucking bootlegs.

That's a fair critique. That's another reason why I'm glad we have the option of having all the cuts of the movies instead of being stuck to a single version.

Nice! The Trek films definitely get action heavy and I tend to gravitate towards ones that are less action filled such as TMP DE or Undiscovered Country

Yep. The super long TV version is the only part thats exclusive here vs the 6 film set. TV version is on a 4K disc

Yup, despite this set having the Theatrical and Special Long Version on the same disc, Paramount has decided to fuck people over with the 6 film set by not including it.

The set I reviewed here is just for Motion Picture but the 4K and Blu-Ray 6 Movie collection has the Wrath of Khan and Undiscovered Country Director's Cuts

The digital code is just for the theatrical and the Director’s Edition

The code just includes the Director’s Edition

The longer edition isn't available on digital at all or I'd just buy that to make up for the fact that the 6 film collection doesn't include it at all.

@@Soundout12 Paramount's been really bad with that. Indiana Jones and other sets were either 4K or Bluray only in the U.S., personally with the Star Trek 6 original motion pictures set I'd rather they did the same but included all 3 cuts from this set instead of me buying the 6 film set and then finding out after the fact I need to drop $75-100 for another set to have all the cuts of the films.

4K is a tricky beast. Its a great way to have a movie presented in more film like quality with more color and detail depth, but in order to get there it takes a combination of hardware and tv settings to get it to look right

Any time I see this book style packaging I cringe a little but just have to deal with it. I double dipped on the 6 movie set just so I could have TMP DE and 5&6 to be all in the box alongside the other 4. This set I have just for the TV version and that won’t be watched as much as others. It sucks that they double dip a lot but I prefer it to some other studios that won’t even release stuff in the first place (Disney)

Paramount's so bad at including things in bundle sets. I'm still appalled how they didn't include the extended cuts of the TNG two-parters in the Complete Series set

@@Soundout12 You're telling me, it's even harder for people who were born after the fact, I know of the extended cut of Measure of a Man but if there's others, I'm unaware, but if they can include the Special Longer Version and Theatrical together on a 4K disc, I see no excuse for what they're doing except for money grabbing. I mean I got this set today actually cause I found it on sale at a Best Buy, but I am not going to be getting anything Star Trek for a while cause of it. It was bad enough that the TOS/TNG sets had the terrible disc layering epik paks and no digital copy should anything happen to one of the discs. Then they pulled that bs with the bonus features for anything Kelvin Timeline being scattered to hell across all retailers until the 4K Kelvin Timeline set, and I was lucky I got that before they discontinued that version for the version _without_ the bonus features, literally got the last set with the bonus features that amazon had. Paramount's pissing me off, can only imagine how people who actually grew up with Trek feel, my mom was really into it but she scarely got any of it on DVD, cause she got one disc when they were doing TOS on DVD like peicemeal, and after that I guess she got mad and never bothered. I've been the one getting Trek in my family and I was born in the 90's and by the time I was old enough to be sentient Star Trek was practically dead, I always had a bit of curiosity but the 2009 film was what got me started.
