I've wanted to start watching Star Trek, but there's so much and no way I would watch all of it. Anyone got any suggestions for where to start?

start with enterprise, it's the prequel. then original series, next generation, deep space nine, voyager. watch discovery if you want, but it's a parallel universe basically. many of the movies are good, though not necessary to watch.

Start with star trek the next generation, and then star trek voyager followed by deep space nine, and then star trek discovery and in between watch the movies

Season 1 of Next Generation. Captain Picard is the man you want introducing you to Star Trek. Just start from Ep 1 of Season 1 and enjoy.

Why is it we only see human designed vessels in the federation? I would imagine different worlds would include their own fleets as well

They are Starfleet designed. The original ones were human because the Federation didn't exist yet, but after that Starfleet started incorporating other species, and those species contributed to new tech and designs for future ships. But it wouldn't make any sense to start from scratch at that point and completely redesign everything. So they slowly integrated alien systems and design while keeping whatever worked from the originals. So by the 24th century, Fed ships are a combination of tech from many of their member worlds, which is also why they are so advanced.

I mean humans have a long way to go, especially in the greed department, but I reckon a unified earth could be possible by the 2200's. We will never live to know though.

Two words：American people. If they outright call it socialism then star trek would have tanked in USA. Which is why I find those claim “Discovery is not old school trek because its WOKE/Progressive agenda/feminism/SJW” pretty pathetic because it was always SUPPOSE to be like this even for old school trek. There was even backlash against discovery s1 because they used the words “racist” and “xenophobic”
