This helps to understand the Klingon Civil a little better. Whenever I used to watch Star Trek, I always found the series, episodes, and stories hard to understand and follow. But thanks to this, I'm able to understand the stories a little better.

Correction: At 6:42, Data was Lieutenant Commander (like the title says) not a Lieutenant (like the voice says) Correction 2: At 7:04 the title for Riker should read Commander, not Lieutenant Commander.

What’s that bit of federation space cut off from the rest of the federation?

That is deep Federation territory. It was explored by deep space officers like Captain Kirk. It's part of the Federation but difficult to defend. During the Dominion War that is where the Dominion launched many of there attacks cause it was hard for the Federation to reinforce and supply.

If Worf had previously accepted discommendation, why did he retain the Right of Vengeance? Why honor the legally dishonored? It seems inconsistent.

There are certain rights that are so sacred every klingon can claim it regardless of status. To Klingons, the bond between mates was more important than even worshipping their gods. So the right of vengeance for a mate is always honored.

@@CivilizationEx Ah, thank you. I appreciate the personal response. Just wish they'd emphasized that lawful significance of mates more in that episode. Was half-expecting Duras's guards be be like, "Yeahhh, that sucks, but you're not even really a klingon now, anyway."

@@maxcarlson3223 It was subtle but they did reference that. When Worf walks in to challenge Duras, Duras tells him he has no rights and turns his back. It's only when Worf says loudly for all to hear: "K'Ehleyr was my mate." That Duras turns around and accepts that duel immediately. It was only because it was Worf's mate that it was allowed. Joseph Martins I didn't expect anything really, simply lamenting the fact. And to be fair, more than their honestly abysmal levels of bureaucratic bloat, it's their complete and total refusal for sensibility in defense that screws them time and time again.

Attie Pollard because sitting around with their thumbs up their asses while there is a civil war inside a great power on their borders with the winning faction being extremely negative to them will come back and bite them in the ass massively. Especially with their garbage capacity for self defense.
