Alec Guinness Acting Masterclass. He was giving a handful of lines to explain a vague character backstory and story arc and is so convincing, many decades later you're still appreciating his talent and skill.

I saw that movie with my dad as a kid. I never imagined that 40 years later the Star Wars franchise was going to be bigger than ever.

Look at that look he gives Artoo on the sly. Alec Guiness couldn't have known, but man what a difference it makes.

This simple scene with basic props, a few actors on location, and meaningful plot-centered dialogue is miles ahead in quality over the prequel and sequel trilogies.

The music so incredibly carries this scene. It secretly tells us this moment is far more important then it seems.

2:33 - Dunno what you guys think but even though the story for 1-3 wasn't really written at that point it really looks like Ben recognizes R2..

there is a layer of horror in the first three StarWars that evaded its later filmmakers. also Alec Guinness was absolutely a superb balance to the whole thing.

One of those movies where if you stumble upon a scene on internet, video, etc., you always watch it.

The more I see this more I applaud Ewan McGregor. He really tries hard to match Alec's accent.

Alec Guiness: Genuine Class

The whole Krayt Dragon thing makes so much more sense now after seeing mando even kenobi putting his hood up and using the point to mimick the dorsal fins. It makes the tuskens look much more threatening and less like bumbling idiots as the dragon is such a real threat to them.

I can only imagine what the reaction in the theater was like when Obi-Wan reveals himself and people see Sir Alec Guinness. I heard he was a legendary actor. He was the original Obi-Wan who said “Hello There” first.

Sir Alec doesn’t do a very good Ewen McGregor impersonation. It’s like he didn’t even bother watching episodes 1-3

The way Luke recognises Obi-Wan makes it soiund like he has met Obi-Wan a few times since the meeting as small boy in the Disney+ series.

This and Empire Strikes Back ( saw it in the cinema 1980) are the best two films in the whole franchise. The end.

MANY, MANY REASONS WHY THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY IS FAR SUPERIOR TO WHAT HAS FOLLOWED. ONE OF THEM IS THEY HAD BETTER ACTORS. ALEC GUINESS WAS THE PERFECT ACTOR TO PLAY OBI WAN. MARK HAMILL HAS ALWAYS BEEN UNDERRATED AS WELL.

Man, when I was much, much younger, the first time I saw A New Hope and Obi-Wan, in this scene and then through out the original Star Wars Trilogy, (I was even really pissed at Vader for killing him), he was just the coolest guide Luke could have and I remember the older people saying, well if such a well established good actor like (Sir) Alec Guinness is in it, it must be a good movie... well that didn't mean anything at the time but now that I've had a chance (or an interest in) seeing some of those old classic movies he was in, I finally understand what a great actor he really was and how much he added to the original trilogy... even though Ewan McGregor, has done a good job and has played Obi-Wan Kenobi far more... to me... I still believe and think of Alec Guinness as the real Obi-Wan... and as Ewan McGregor continues to age, gaining more experience and playing Obi-Wan's part, he'll eventually turn into Alec Guinness... lol

It so subtle and clever the way 3P0’s eyes light up at 0:34 when the Tusken raider attacks. The they don’t need to make him look more human because he’s a droid but it’s like his eyes go wide in shock which lets the audience know to also be afraid.

"the sand people are easily startled but they'll soon be back, and in greater numbers" say what you want about the dialogue but his is very cool. the detail about their behavior is spot on for an audience.

The Force must’ve been strong with That Sandperson. He defeated the greatest Jedi in the galaxy. But, he DID have the high ground.

Alec Guinness the founder of the roll we all know and love without him we have no ewan or space Jesus remember that fellas! A legendary actor if only he could've seen how far its gone!

After all these years, I never noticed that Alec Guinness pronounces the "Wan" in "Obi-Wan" not like "wahn", but rhyming with "hand".

There’s so much here; 1-R2 is on a mission. We find out later , how many Missions he has been on, and how vital they have been. He saves EVERYONE many times. 2- Luke runs towards danger instead of away from it. 3-The Tuskens take prisoners. They kidnap instead of just killing. That is later shown with Shmi. 4-Tuskens are stealthy. One could be right in front of you, and you wouldn’t see him. 5-Ben Mimics the Kryat Dragon and they take off quick. Later we find out why. 6-Ben does the hand to forehead healing move that Sidious does to a dying Vader when he is burned. 7- Ben says “Hello there” which they used in the prequels. 8-Ben calls R2 “my friend” 9- R2 makes a sad sound when Ben doesn’t remember him. 10-Ben understands R2’s communication. 11-Ben says “Your lucky to be in one piece. Yeah, cause he carved his Dad up into four pieces. 12-The Tusken had the high ground on Luke. 13- Luke had a long rifle. But he didn’t fire it. He held it up like a light saber, but the Tusken cut right through it. Showing the importance of a good blade. 14-The entire galaxy is hunting for Obi-wan who is in hiding….but only changes his FIRST name…not his last…..and never changes his clothes in 20 years. Or shaves his beard off 15-The Tuskens are called “Sand People” which is obviously a slur and not very PC. If this was made today, there would be a “Diversity, equity and inclusion” Droid named 3PC-O. 16- C-3PO’s arm is cut off , foreshadowing a very common injury in Star Wars. 17- I wonder if PO’s name was inspired by C-3PO?? 18- Luke is knocked on his back and fights from there. The same way he is knocked on his back by Vader in Empire strikes BACK. 19- The Tuskens look exactly the same in Anakin’s childhood during the Pod race. When his mother is taken. In this scene. And in the Mandolorian … which means they NEVER update their look or clothing in DECADES. 20-The valley they are in is very important. It’s where R2 is captured by the Jawas. It’s where R2 and C-3PO travel towards Jabba’s palace. And it’s where Indiana Jones threatens to blow up the Ark with a bazooka.

Ben would have certainly remembered R2D2. That's the only discrepancy here.

See, people talk about how crushed he his about the guy he's only known for a few hours, but it's very clear from this scene and those before that Ben knew him long before. Owen might've tried to keep them apart - "he's got his father in him" - but it's clear Ben was a part of his life, probably from the very beginning.

This is the last time you see Luke's macrobinoculars, likely either wrecked like his blaster rifle, or the Tuskens took them. Worked out ok though, because it freed up his belt hook to carry his new lightsaber. :) It, a poncho, & the clothes on his back were all he left Tatooine with, not much to remember the only life he'd ever known.
