Star Wars Arcade 1UP Pinball Is a Digital Disaster

Star Wars Arcade 1UP Pinball Is a Digital Disaster. The screen's brightness seemed inconsistent, affecting the overall visual experience. More distracting was the noticeable streaking tail trailing the ball during fast movements - a significant drawback when the essence of pinball is its dynamic and rapid ball movement. The digital screen's size felt rather confined, not allowing the expansive play area pinball lovers have come to cherish.
The primary flaw, however, wasn't just about the physical aspects or graphics of the Arcade 1up; it lay in its attempt to digitally replicate the authentic, tactile experience of playing on a real pinball machine. Digital simulations, no matter how advanced, can't capture the feeling of a metal ball ricocheting off bumpers, the unique sounds of the flippers, or the subtle mechanical vibrations you feel through the machine as you play.

I got mine 2 years ago for $500. For entry level pinball with a few mods makes it well worth it! Nothing beats the real deal but for a budget build at the price i paid its a bargain. Do the A1Pinner mod to unlock all 30 a1up tables and enable the abiity to load 60 more ZEN tables, allows the upgrade on all tables to 1080p from 780p. Trun off the ball trail effect in setting, move the haptic feed back to under front panel along with the addition of a bass speaker and you got something that is fun at a reasonable price compared to the real deal.

Everything this guy said is absolutely wrong. Because it’s digital pinball you have ten different games all in one machine vs having to purchase ten different analogue machines. And no one is paying $700 for something they can’t test drive. And you can fight Darth Vader in the machine as well. It’s pretty dope still even if it doesn’t have the feel of an old school pinball machine.

Extreme Pinball Rock Fantasy for MS-DOS was a highly addictive pinball game back in the day. Arcade1up deserves all the criticism they are getting. There's cost-effective pinball alternatives on 6th generation consoles and the Nintendo Wii.

All I got out of this was he doesn't enjoy Vpinball. Period. What he said IMO could be blanket applied to ANY Vpinball. AtGames Pinball and 4K pinball. Premium machines from Xtreme Gaming Cabinets out of Australia (location in US, too). They use LG Ultra Gear 4K OLED screens, 144 hz refresh. Ultra realism. Excellent sound systems, solenoids, etc. While not "real", these Vpinball machines offer ease of portability (AtGames Micro with 50 built-in tables) , MULTIPLE tables to enjoy, and no hunting for a qualified pinball mechanic when parts inevitably fail and require maintenance. Got one near him? What about the fee? Problem with a Vpinball, just update the software. Real pinball is superb. There could be no Vpinball without it. That is the template from which it comes. Much respect. I played all the time in local parlors with my Dad growing up, and he purchased one for me when I was eleven. and I LOVED it! Having said that, it sounds like this guy is just not liking Vpinball in general. Which is fine. But I felt like he wasn't really reviewing the PRODUCT, but just sounding off about his dislike of Vpinball in general. Maybe he should look at Xtreme Gaming Cabinets machines-- Superb. He's entitled to his opinion, but IMO this was an indictment of Vpinball, not a review of Arcade 1up Star Wars Pinball.

I've owned many real pinball machines for my home, Star Trek, Hook, Bride of Pinbot, etc. etc. Nothing is like the real thing. But those pinballs are now costing 6k plus, and you can't change the table, your stuck with it. So virtual seems like you can get so much more at a fraction of the price. Not sure how well this star wars ads up, not a fan of arcade1up, but for around 700.00 it looks pretty darn good.

Picked one of these up at Costco for $299 right before Christmas, after going to Cidercade and playing real pinball tables. If you want something nostalgic and cool for your media room, then at less than $300 it's a great deal. Heck I have Star Wars Lego sets that have cost more than that (amongst many other Star Wars collectibles) that have far less playability! As was mentioned in the video, it does look really nice, the design, the print and the real buttons, plunger and solenoids are great. The screen does need to be better, especially in this day and age, but with 10 tables on board and the ability to add more tables to it, it has some casual playability when you have friends over, without taking up the space (or cost) of 1 or more full size pinball tables. It simply looks impressive and cool in the room. You can adjust the brightness, you can turn off the ball trails, you can adjust the volume, turn on and off the solenoids (bumpers) and you don''t have to use the plunger either. This means you can use it at night, when the kids are sleeping too! Overall, if you can pick one up for less than $300, it's a great collectible if you are a Star Wars fan, and a great talking point as well. However, the original $749 asking price is incredibly steep. At less than $300, you get a lot for your money.

The creator admits that he hates virtual vs physical pinball and dedicates a significant portion of this "review" waxing nostalgic about physical vs virtual pinball vs talking about the product he's reviewing which clearly will never meet his expectations. He then admits to only playing one table on the budget focused A1Up in Costco for a few minutes and found it lacking compared to a $5000 sten replica table, which led to a rambling 10 minute video that took longer to produce than the time he spent actually playing the product he was reviewing. The basic ball trail feature that was so maligned can be disabled in the software along with a few other visual tweaks to improve performance/playability, though why bother using the provided options menu to address default configuration options he didn't like vs blazing ahead with this drama video. "It's basically a TV on a table... but there's a lot more to it than that." The reviewer can't even seem to agree with himself on his own points in this work, while also suffering poor technical delivery of his own video with soft camera focus, poor audio quality and a rambling narrative that seems like it was stretched to fill time and simply be controversial for the sake of clicks vs getting into specifics about the product that are the hallmarks of a good vs clickbait review. There is plenty to criticize about the A1Up Pinball products along with the AtGames offerings, but as leisure/occasional use recroom product they are a good value and size with robust modification options to address many of the stock shortcomings for people at a variety of skill levels.

It's unfortunate you reviewed something after only playing for an extremely small amount of time. Obviously you didn't realize that you can disable the ball trace and pop up scores for a more realistic feel. I picked up the Marvel edition a couple of months ago and it feels absolutely amazing! Arcade1up nailed the Marvel cab.

Sounds like the issue is these LCD screens that alot of this shit uses. Even the best LCD's have pretty shitty motion and black levels compared to an OLED or HD CRT. Using an OLED would fix the visual issues, unless its built into the graphics. Owning a pinball machine would interest me more than an arcade machine. With emulation I have most of the history of gaming covered on one PC, but you cant really replicate the physical feel of pinball. Some arcade games with unique controllers are also like that to some degree.

You can drop in a decased $250 LG display with the $40 Geekworm LVDS-HDMI adapter plus a $100 mClassic upscaler/anti-aliasing device and make this an entirely different experience for around $400 all-in. Paired with the A1Pinner 30 table mod/geekworm patch and some Zen tables + the haptics pack you end up with a vastly better experience than the stock setup.

I would agree the cost on A1Up vpins is overpriced, but when on sale they cost $400 to $500. Considering a real pinball costs thousands, the virtual pinball for hundreds is well worth the money.

Personally speaking it's already a disaster when I see the machine is focused on the sequel trilogy. Big nope here. I'm a huge star wars fan I really don't care for the sequels. Much prefer the original trilogy and the prequels and in my younger days reading books in the expanded universe.

Don't get me wrong here. Star Wars Arcade has a great pinball. Q: Is it worth it? A: HECK NO! Q: Why's that? A: They sell it for $700 for only 10 pinball tables. Only 1 Collection by Zen Studios. On steam? its $20 for the same Tables. To me? I think they jipped people with this kind of setup. I can smell a rat!
