I honestly hated these things, same with the Marauders used by the rebels The EaW AI had essentially an all seeing god eye and could just sit in the fog of war hitting your fleet with like 20 of these

The Zann Consortium getting a bunch of Broadside Cruisers would be like a _very_ violent drug cartel getting its hands on a bunch of MLRS’s kitted out with equally as many cruise missiles instead of the standard shorter range rockets. Very terrifying indeed. And a _hella_ lot of heads would roll if that ever happened in real life too. Such an event would merit deploying the military to put a stop to it.

Got to love how broken the artillery units were in Empire at War. Although I would like to see the _Gladiator_ and _Broadside_ combined into one ship. Decent shields, good point defense, decent hull, okay cannons, and some absolutely devastating torpedo/missile capability. All in a compact (relatively) 500-600 meter package.

Part of what makes them great is their relatively compact size. They make great command ships for patrol fleets, work in small flotillas with a few other Gladiators, or they can go it alone as anything short of surplus CIS capital ships and Mon Cals don't have much of a chance in a one on one (1) That being said, I would probably upgrade a pair of the light turbolaser turrets to medium turbolaser turrets and replace another pair with light or medium ion cannons depending on power generation. (1) Especially with the fairly extensive point defense for antimissile/antitorpedo/anti-strike craft duties

Well, since Tie fighters were already inferior to most alliance fighter-craft, those missiles would actually be much more economical. Say it takes 2-3 Tie fighters to match an X-wing: that makes the missiles anywhere from 6 to 9 times more cost-efficient assuming they are as potent as advertised.

These were my favorite ships in EAW. I like how they look, and with how fighter heavy the rebellion is, these rockets can cut a huge squadron of Y and B wings down to nothing in a second.

With 40 concussion missile launchers, just using regular *cheap* concussion missiles it would still be a squadron killer. And due to the low cost it could just keep spamming salvos of standard missiles. That also means that using special tactics to corral the enemy fighters into a group before firing in order to not _waste expensive_ diamond boron missiles would be unnecessary. Instead just keep firing at the onset of battle to break up enemy formations, destroying any concentrations of fighters and scattering the rest in order to make them easy prey for your own fighters. The only issue is if enemy Hyperspace equipped fighters can get the drop on it, it really depends on how off axis it can fire it's missiles, are only fighters in front at risk or can it target fighters all around it ? A few launchers dedicated to covering all angles would be prudent. Still a better option (from a non game perspective) would be to use a existing ship platform in order to not draw attention to it and paint a target on it. The Gladiator would be ideal for such a role _(it even looks close enough that the two ships can be mixed up in low res images)_ and also would need little work to change over - just convert the hangers and fighter support into missile support. That would save money and effort from a logistics viewpoint and confuse the enemy in the heat of battle. That would also have been a viable option in a *non nerfed* GAR during the Clone Wars, just use Venators _[and/or Acclamators]_ as the base hull and refit the hangers and fighter support _[or troop carrying capacity]_ to missile launchers and ammo. It would cover a necessary tactical weakness of the GAR, the dedicated Captial ship killer if using anti shipping missiles or the fighter killer with anti fighter missiles ["why not both?"…]. Hell in Star Trek just strip out a saucer section and retrofit with torpedo launchers and racks of photons, even have spare saucers already outfitted for those ships that can saucer separate. That would have been useful during the Dominion War. There's even the old Homeworld Missile Destroyer… Missile spam is a terrifying confrontation.

Considering that a single Diamond Boron missile cost 20000 credits, and I'm willing to bet that most of that was just the coating itself, it makes sense that nobody did it. I'm sure they thought about it, but it'd be just too damned expensive. An A-wing can carry 12 concussion missiles, which the DBM is based off. And that's the smallest fighter out there. I'm honestly dreading just how expensive it would be.

Five missile boats, one star destroyer, two victory-class Star Destroyers and four Corvettes. That's all you need to take on any type of AI Fleet in Empire at War. I think honestly five is a too many broadside boats but with a fleet that size you can't ever go wrong. Just make sure you keep a Corvette back with the blast boats.

Love sending these in to demolish Reb starbases. A few Victory classes or Acclamators to escort, and a whole lot of Broadsides. Particularly in a hit and fade style attack if there is a large defending fleet and/or many surface ion cannons. Then Death Squadron arrives after this bombardment group bugs out to hyperspace.

I often rushed a couple CR-90s and a couple Gunboats at them when I fought them in Empire at War. Enough bulk to get to them safely and enough firepower to quickly kill them and any fighters that tried to screen them. Rushing with fighters usually just got my expensive fighters killed.

Based on a few things, I would say Earthbound firearms are far superior to Slugthrowers. Aurra Sing used a slugthrower that's has a (Legends) optimal range is 90 meters, short for even an assault rifle, and a max range of 450 meters, far inferior to a modern sniper. And that's a gun the size of Sing herself. The guns max range pales in comparison to modern sniper rifles, and is shorter than that of the M4 Carbine. The only slugthrowers we see in the movies are those of the Tusken Raiders, and they're slow firing and predominantly bolt action, whereas we have the ultimate in rate of fire, the Minigun and other types of rotary cannons (I'm talking about the A10 Brrrrrt). Earth has also found numerous ways to make their guns more effective, from laser pointers and scopes to silencers, we we don't see in the movies (haven't read any cannon comics, so I don't know about that). Modern military's have developed a plethora of bullet types, from incendiary, to armor piercing, to high-explosive, and these would give a great edge in combat against the primitive slugthrowers we know of. 40mm grenade launchers are also slugthrowers, so the M32 Launcher is a powerhouse in this field. And technically, our artillery, from tanks to warships to fighter jets, use slugthrowers, sooooo, I'll take an A10 over a Tusken Raider any day... Earth-bound armor has also been designed to stop, or at least reduce the effects of, ballistic weaponry, whereas Star Wars armor is designed to primarily stop energy based threats. For example, Republic and Imperial armor is plastoid, which while futuristic, is still a polymer, and likely wouldn't stop a .22 LR, let alone a proper rifle round. All this said, I know that, at least in legends, there is the Verpine Shatter Gun, which is a term given to any of the Verpine slugthrowers, which are basically small railguns, so they have that in terms of range and penetrative value. TL:DR, Star Wars focused on furthering blaster technology, while Earth has worked to hone firearms, and while we're gradually advancing further and further towards beyond-visual-range weapon systems (be it long-range fighter-launched missiles, ICBM's, railguns, or lasers), we still use primarily firearms in our more mundane conflicts. You don't see stories about cops breaking down doors, armed with bolt-action rifles as long as they are tall, you see them with compact automatic rifles.

I think this is a fantastic ship! Interesting and effective! Though in my opinion, it could be made much more effective. It would, however, still be best suited to an artillery/long range fire support role. The only modifications I would make would be: better armor, faster speed, anti-starfighter/anti-missile laser cannon turrets. Another interesting idea would be to equip with stealth systems and a minelayer.

Ships with torpedo batteries in Homeworld were a lot of fun to look at, especially Vaygr ships. I think you'd have a lot of fun reviewing Homeworld ships. They're pretty well made, although I don't know if their lore would be as extensive as Star Wars.

0:44 That's a Forestall class carrier, not a Nimitz. Not gonna lie the carrier on it's own is quite hard to tell a apart, the main thing that gave it away is the very Vietnam war era "box cruiser" (I have forgotten the class name) sailing behind the carrier.

Considering how expendable and inferior Tie Fighters were to Rebel Fighters, there's not even a need to pull your own fighters back when firing a Diamond Boron salvo. The Empire doesn't mind losing a few pilots if it helps defeat Rebels.

If the missiles have 50 explosion radius then I'd not send the rockets 50m apart, but 70m diagonally offset. That would increase the size of the kill zone by 40% without reducing lethality. 50m separation is just overkill.

I think SW could use missiles a lot more AND make their physics something close to believable, and the specs would be massive great fun to elaborate on. I mean, an entire missile yard or industry on the scale of shipyards could be dreamed up, and a whole new set of stories - heck, a new epoch: the Missile Wars! could be written! Hyperdrive missiles replete with dozens of smaller AAMs onboard to take out a squadron out for a training mission…electronic warfare…SAM sites and ship-to-air batteries…heat seekers, semi-active, active, remotely piloted…solid projectile anti-missile tech like the US Navy’s CIWS….anti-missile defenses and shielding…Wild Weasel squadrons to take out RADAR sites and other multi-spectral defenses….and what about nukes?….a whole new set of whizz-bangs to update thousands-of-year-old technology - OH MY! There’s a reason why Raytheon is America’s second largest defense contractor, after Lockheed Martin, man - missiles, missiles, missiles! It could be a nice breath of fresh air to add some weapon systems that don’t require Dark Force Spells to work. Some influences and ideas from The Expanse, Iron Man, and the updated BattleStar Galactica series could be some great inspiration, and very workable. And importantly, could be implemented without writing out Turbo Lasers, ion cannon, star fighters, and proton torpedoes from the scripts of the Story.

You could be wrong or maybe just confusing names and classes. The NIMITZ class of carriers including USS Enterprise, are 1,092ft long while the Ford class (which just came out and is going to slowly replace all Nimitz class CVNs) is 1,106 ft long. The 1st of the Ford clas carriers happens to also share the same name as its class, Ford. The USS Ronald Reagan is a CVN 68 class (Nimitz class) and is also 1,092 ft long like the other carriers of that class. You know, I would take the broadside, remove all the parts that would move it, and its bridge, on put it on the front of a ISD, Basicly giving it a strong weapon.
