8:12 A key note here is that Pit Droids do *not* up repair speed in a race. The "repair" parts do that (the ones at the end of Watto's shop lineup). All parts have a durability system, with durability dropping with taking crashes or scrapes. Pit Droids repair part damage after a race, with multiple parts repaired per your count of Pit Droids.

One of my all time favorites. A total classic that holds up well to this day.

Free Mode is important because money is finite in the Tournament Mode, and your ship deteriorates over time if you don’t drive perfectly.

I had Racer Revenge for PS2. Played that to death

the hardest part is you have to go all in on the race bets so you can afford upgrades before the next race. not only that, but between races your parts degrade based on how many times you exploded in the last race, and only get repaired (incrementally) when you win a race

sebulba also had his secret flamethrower as a wpn in this game Neva Kee was my fav podracer. its the unique podracer that is like 1 solid ship with engines in the back. its easily the fastest out of all the podracers. but very frail...

Well the reason you feel Mandela'd is because all the time through all the iterations, it's called pod-racing, the vehicles are called pod-racers and the drivers are called pod-racer pilots. Pod-racer, pod-racing, etc. That gets ingrained into your brain and so when you think about the game, your brain instantly connects pod-racing to it and overwrites the actual title. Happened to most people, myself included.

Replaying this on the playstation store earlier this year and damn i either forgot how hard this was, or as i was a much better gamer as a kid

Loved this game and something like this is missing from my life but there were some difficult obstacles on some tracks that honestly left me guessing what the devs were thinking. Could use a Remaster, with even going as far as venturing into Remake territory with streamlining some maps to iron out the illogical difficulty spikes. If disney would finally starve under a bridge, a normal studio could also eventually release some fun Original Trilogy RACER with Imperial & Remnant, Rebel & New Republic, Mando, Pirate, Hutt and other Crime Syndicate (like Black Sun), and further civilian designed pods (like Corellian, Bespin, Trandoshan, even Kashyyyk designs). Maybe they could leave Tatooine out! Would love to see: Utapau, Dromund Kaas, Devaron, Rhen Var, Vjun, Sullust/Sarapin/TaspirIII, Felucia, Balmorra, Ord Mantell, Raxus Prime or Lotho Minor, Nar Shaddaa, Kessel, The Jade Moon, Katraasii, Bogden, possibly even Chandrila and Sulon. All selected on a galactic map!! I've obviously left out many which are by now too overused or boring. The game should also distance itself from the prequels to have its own identity, with a few exceptions I made. (Utapau, Devaron, Felucia, Lotho Minor.)

Every time you watch a star wars video on this channel and see that clip of the little racing alien from Ep1 crash and scream....you drink!

Pit droids did not speed up the repair during races, they fixed the parts you've damaged during races while you were in, surprisingly, the pit between the races. Also you could simply exploit this mechanic by going to Watto's second hand parts store. There, you could buy damaged parts for cheaper and since the performance of a part scaled with how much damage it had, sometimes this would mean having a downgrade in performance for the next race. However, spend the rest of your winnings on a couple of pit droids and all the parts would've been repaired for the race after that and you'd be leaving everyone in dust. Keep in mind that at Watto's shop, you would have access to the top tier performance parts that you haven't yet unlocked in the regular store. The game had some other rather obscure mechanics as well, for example if you wanted to stay on boost for longer, you'd have to upgrade the cooling related parts.

I had this game on my N64 and I now have it again on my Steam account, and I got my X52 HOTAS to work with it.

Play that game to this day they have both on Switch and PS5 (for real) and they are amazing af and best Star wars racing game ever

i bought the game back then 2000 when i was 12 years old and loved it last year i replayed it on the switch and still love it the track difficulty requires your to be in tune with the force in order to play it

Hours on this one, N64 on a crappy crt with Composit output 😂, was thrilled to learn that the new pc my folks bought at the time had enough juice to run the PC version! That was so much fun! Interesting. I seem to remember that on the PC version the music played right from the beginning of the race.

TBH I might be the only person, but it would have been cool to have a young anakin TV show inbetween the phantom menace and attack of the clones with jake lloyd and ewan mcgreggor. Maybe we could have seen hm do couple more pod races, and towards the end maybe they could do a time skip where anakin is a bit older but before AOTC to see some of the adventures he might have had with Obi Wan.

Funny enough, I just beat this game without figuring out how to boost, I would have looked it up but I did it in one sitting, definitely not as hard as I remember, but is it ever fun.

Don't know if you know this, but this game has a cheat that lets you use twin stick controls with two controllers similar to how Anakin pilots his pod in the movie.

Didn’t get very far. Forgot the level where I quit, but the difficulty spike was far too high and I just kept falling into the abyss. I like the game overall but it was waaay too unfair.

I got this game after playing the hell out of Rouge Squadron. My brother got Majoras Mask and i was hella jealous. I remember on one mission one of your wingmen breaks off and goes "my family could be in that camp" then proceeds to alert the whole base. I should have shot him down myself.
