The cinematics of the sequel trilogy were fantastic. So many gorgeous shots. Would have been nice if there was any writing to connect those pretty still frames.

I agree that they dropped this ball. I liked Episode 7 well enough, although I didn't remember much about it once I left the theater. I didn't care for the next one, and I didn't even bother to see the third one. This is coming from someone who, like you, was shaped by the original trilogy as a kid. I was 11 when I saw Star Wars in the theater and still remember it vividly.

I’m also glad to have the original trilogy on 📼 it has become my favorite bit of old technology and it pairs nicely with the holiday special I got at a comic convention a couple years back.

I have always loved the original trilogy and prequel trilogy as they brought so much new and cool things to the table, but with the sequel era, it felt like a rehash of what I had already seen and it threw everything out of the window that was previously built up by George Lucas and gave us something with not much love, just another modern day Disney movie. I can look at disney star wars mostly with positivity but sequel movies always felt wrong. 4/10 movie for me sadly.

I was exteeeemely excited after Awakens. Loved the new characters and the story, even if it was a rehash of A New Hope. Then Last Jedi crapped all over Star Wars. Luke quitting on his friends. Leia flying through space. Akbar being unceremoniously killed. And an alltime bad plot. I wish they actually had a plan.

I originally went into this after watching the prequels back to back to back over a long weekend. I felt like Finn stumbling across that trough of space-dog water, just to finally have a modern Star Wars movie that wasn't a non-stop CGI willy wonka blue screen nightmare, where they used actual real life locations and physical sets & practical effects it was so refreshing.

As much of a disaster the sequels were, episode 7 was honestly a good movie. It was kind of meh for Star Wars since it felt like a soft reboot - but it was actually GOOD. And they completely ruined all they had established with the next two movies. So annoying.

Force Awakens made 2 billion, Last Jedi made like a billion and 7 and Rise if Skywalker made one billion. The following movies were so good they made less than the first one.

Original Star Wars: Had to wait in line during the first showtime to catch the second showtime. Episode I: Only ticket I could get for opening day was the very last showtime (2 am), and the theater was still packed! Rise of Skywalker: Less than a dozen people in the theater!

2 1/2 stars, tops. Good follow-up films might have bumped that to 3, as a high tide raises all. But eps. 8 & 9 are EACH the worst thing ever commitmed to film. So this never got that desperately need bump to 3 stars...sad.

I am a semi-casual fan and the easter eggs i don't ever look for just seemed to overwhelm the movie. It felt more like a remake than its own thing. It's set in a literal galaxy, a universe of stories to tell but it was just the same one retold about a different person.
