I like this movie, but I think it may have gone over better if it had been a Beast from 20 Thousand Fathoms remake instead of Godzilla. Yeah I know... Name Recognition and all that cheese...with FISH!

I really liked this when it came out as it was my first Godzilla movie. Plus the VHS had a shifting cover with the Godzilla one way and the eye the other. Super cool. For nostalgic reasons I really like this Godzilla movie.

I remember liking this movie as a kid, but the most I remember was being sad when they killed the monster and the green popcorn that was advertising for the film.

I actually really like this movie. Probably more because of the nostalgia for me. I remember having a nightmare, after watching it as a child, of Godzilla ripping the roof off our house and the babies coming through the windows. Good memories.

I remember watching this as a kid. It's the first Godzilla movie I saw, but that didn't made me a Godzilla fan until 2014 when the movie came out. To be honest with you, the 1998 film is okay, and it would've pretty good if the creature isn't Godzilla. The TV spin-off is awesome because it does feel like a Godzilla show!

If you can think of 'Zilla as just another kaiju, then the movie works just fine.

Putting it in New York makes me want a teenage mutant ninja turtles cross over.

After this movie came out the Japanese made a new Godzilla movie and put this design in and called it Zilla and said that the Americans confused it for the real Godzilla.

This is one of those movies I loved as a kid and am scared to watch it now bc I don’t want to ruin the nostalgia

I saw this in the theater when I was 10. I saw it a lot on VHS, I liked the rain scenes just because I lived in the desert but as an adult I finally noticed Matthew Broderick is very checked out and barely reacts to anything. When I was little, I did think that was actually Ebert lol... I also watched the old Japanese Godzilla films and these ones on DVD are so hard to find and so expensive.

But...but...but...Gamera is friend to all children!

So much to say... First: I'm going to call him GINO from now on, somehow it fits with the NYC vibe! When this film was released, I was living in Taiwan, and the marketing was huge! I had a Japanese coworker with whom I shared a lot of interests (Shonen Knife, Star Wars, etc.), and we both ruthlessly panned how this was NOT Godzilla (East meets West in its truest form)! I'm about your age, and I also grew up with Godzilla/Gamera movies (Saturday afternoons on Channel 2), and I loved it, bad effects and all! When I saw Godzilla: Final Wars (or Tokyo SOS, I can't remember which), I got a huge nostaslgia rush when 2 people ran into an alley, and Godzilla's foot came down in an obvious diorama with miniature trash cans being scattered about. In the same film, Godzilla fought GINO, and in the English dub, the alien commander called GINO "Tuna Head!" Godzilla's revenge!

This movie feels like an unpolished Jurassic Park sequel or spin-off rather than a Godzilla tbh...... I've seen this movie at midnight when i was young and that's the only thing i associate with this movie.......

I liked this movie when I was a kid (I was 11 when it came out) and I thought it was cool. I wasn't a Godzilla fan so I didn't know why everyone said it sucked. It's still a fun trashy action monster movie. But it's definitely NOT a godzilla movie.

the zilla pregnancy thing never ceases to confuse the fuck out of me. like i know godzilla had a kid in the japanese movies, but did the american writers come to the conclusion that godzilla had jr though some kind of miracle male pregnancy when they looked at those movies?

I'm a fan of any movie that destroys a major city.

I was in already in my 20’s when this came out and a huge Godzilla fan but I already knew this wasn’t going to be TOHO Godzilla so I skipped it. Also avoided renting it on VHS. About 10 years ago I watched it on cable but only made it halfway thru. Woof !! What a stinker. Matthew Broderick’s character is annoying and his love interest is a terrible person who just ghosted him completely. The only thing I liked was Hank hamming it up as the camera man doing the classic New Yawk guy character. I can see where millennials would love this because they watched it as kids. For a Gen X Godzilla nut this mess is heresy.

I still got my zilla figure.

The 1998 Godzilla movie was ridiculous. I prefer the recent ones.
