When it comes to machinal props, you're not always going to get it right. The best thing you can do is pick yourself up, see where it went wrong and fix it. If you can't figure out the problem, call for help. That's the impression I get from these guys when they run into problems that piss off the big guys upstairs like George.

Zoomer30 You know nothing about machinery and how hard it is to get things to work or about CG. None of this video showed R2 being CG. If he would have been there would be no problems, but George obviously did not want him to be. CG in these movies were awesome. You need to stay off commenting on videos like this. Great video thanks, why not simply have the centre-leg follow a track, especially as most of the time the ground is out of shot? there is a track for the camera, so why not have a track for the droid? This version seems over-complicated. The track anchor would also stop any 'topple' and it would also ensure that R2 was on-time every time, like an English train. (That was obviously a joke).

2:42 I think the reason R2 ran so well was that he was not on actual ground. There is a scene were he,s obviously on a rug or plank as he dosen't wobble at all. In this they just keep running him on rough terrain and then George complaining he dose'n't work.

I'm confused why the filming didn't *start* with the design of those final 2 R2s. They knew, or should've known what all the problems were going to be, but it seems like they did nothing to address those problems. "Guys, R2 needs to be able to work on sand and go over door jams." "Ok, we have 7 R2s that can run on sand and stage" fails on sand and crashes into walls on set "Guys its not working..." "ohh, you wanted it to work?" "ok guys this time lets make one that can work on sand and go over door jams."
@hanburgundy43177 жыл бұрын
Or maybe animatronics and robotics are incredibly difficult to create and have operate well. Derrrr! Stating that something that can be improved should have been done to the best ability _before_ failing is stupid; you have to see how something works and how it doesn't work to know how best to create the final product. Oh, and I recognize you from the Star Wars forums; you were trolling over there, too.
@ShadowWolverine7 жыл бұрын
Hans Ollo The on set filming should have started with a final, finished and functioning R2. The idea of delivering a product that fails to do the things it needs to do is disgraceful. Ignoring and failing to address things that you *know* are going to be obstacles (like sand and door jams), putting your flawed design into full production, delivering it to the customer (the rest of the film production), and then "just seeing how something works" is laughable and that's definitely not how engineering and design works. When you design, you design with intent, not with a willy-nilly mentality. Yes, obviously throughout the process, even when you consider all of the potential problems, things can still go wrong, but things need to go wrong during planning and testing, not once you're "finished." The goal of a project such as this is to get all of those problems out of the way *before* you deliver the final product. And in this case that obviously didn't happen. Some of the primary objectives of this R2 project should have been to ensure that it can travel over sand and door jams, yet they seem to have not taken those things into consideration at all during the entire process up until when they realized that it couldn't do those things *while on set.* Then they seem to have gone back to the drawing board with the mentality of "Oh, that's what we need to do." You don't put a car on the market unless you know that it's essentially flawless in it's design and construction. You don't open up a bridge without knowing that it won't collapse. And you shouldn't deliver an R2 animatronic to the film set of a multi-million dollar production that needs to finish things according to a meticulously coordinated schedule involving thousands of people and tons of equipment without knowing that it will do the things it's supposed to do, like go over sand and door jams. So to reiterate and elaborate since you obviously didn't understand, why didn't they start filming with the latest iteration of R2? Why didn't they test and address problems before actual filming began? Why didn't they hand in a *finished* product that they *knew* satisfied all the criteria and did everything that it needed to do? Oh, and to address your comment about trolling, I don't belong to any Star Wars forums, so I guess jokes on you.

Interesting video. But all this made me finally question why R2 and C3PO were even in the prequels. "Well, we need droids!" Make up some new ones. "But, but...we have to see their origins!" No, we'll see some retcon BS that doesn't make any sense. C3PO wasn't built by some slave kid in his spare time, and said slave kid wouldn't have built a protocol droid; that is clearly not C3PO's real origin so why bother? And what R2D2 did in the prequels could have been done by any other droid. "But, but....the story requires continuity!" Oh, really? The droids having witnessed the history of the prequels AND NEVER TELLING ANYONE IN EPISODES 4-6 was such an obvious problem that they threw in a line about wiping their memories at the end of Episode 3.
@colesoderstrom84318 жыл бұрын
.....that's what you cared about in the prequels. R2 and CPO being in it..... That was one of the hight point! What about the romance between Padme and Anakin! That was terrible worst romance ever! What about jar jar! He sucked! What about the wooden dialogue!

And yes the prequels sucked but not beacause of R2 and CPO
@jdraven08908 жыл бұрын
ThatPixelatedGamer Hahha, oh I so agree on all of that! However, I had not thought there was any problem at all with R2 & 3PO until I was watching this. Quite honestly yes in watching the prequels, they are the least offensive part! But even my two favorite droids were obviously shoehorned into the prequels (cuz George knew we'd like it).
@jdraven08908 жыл бұрын
ThatPixelatedGamer Wow...that's very close to how I'd stack them - but switch 4 and 6, and put 5 as the best, because a few cheesy things started creeping into 6. I hope 7 holds up to multiple viewings, I've only seen it once, but it sure seems like it will.
