I know George made a lot of decisions which fans weren't happy about, like Special Edition changes to the OT and not releasing the original cuts, the way he handled certain scenes in the prequels and how Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull turned out. But I think it's pathetic how certain fans bashed on him and went so far as to say "George Lucas raped our childhood!". I don't necessarily agree with all the choices George made myself, but I don't go hating or bashing on him. If I ever met him, I'd give him a hug like Ewan does at the end here and thank him for creating Star Wars in the first place.

@@darksidedelta The prequels were not good, they're bad movies strung together with some interesting ideas. The sequels are good movies where the ideas are a little chaotic but ironically they probably listened too much to the fans. The Force Awakens came out and fans complained it was nothing new so they made the Last Jedi and the fans complained that there is too much new so they made Rise of Skywalker which fans hate because I guess they consider it mandatory to hate on Star Wars movies these days just like they've made Kennedy the new villain and George has returned to hero status. George never really had a plan for either the prequels or the originals, he had vague ideas and then made up the rest as he went along that's why when you get to Revenge of the Sith everything feels rushed because he didn't leave himself enough time to wrap up the story he wanted to tell in the first place.

Little Known "Fact": George Lucas actually sold Star Wars to avoid having to dodge Ewan McGregor's rabid hugs in a possible Obi-Wan Kenobi movie as Ewan specifically (and oddly enough) wanted George to direct it because felt that Lucas should be "in the proximity" of his physical being to make the perfect movie. :)

@grumpygameboy19008 жыл бұрын
+Billy Blaster Yes, but the acting was believable, and because of that the lines were less lame and more intriguing. With the prequels, George Lucas always seemed to want the actors to be direct. Sure there were scenes with emotions shown, but its not about a few scenes with okay acting, its about either all or mostly.
@russianbot21798 жыл бұрын
GrumpyGameBoy "“Why, you stuck up, half-witted, scruffy-looking Nerf herder" A classic line to be sure, but if a line like that was spoken in a modern day movie, it would labeled as 'bad writing' and everyone would make fun of it. It gets a pass from nerd culture because it is nostalgic. But in reality, that line is just downright goofy. Yes the romance scenes in the prequels were cringe worthy, but nerd culture turns a blind eye to border line incest in the original trilogy. If they had that borderline incest story line in modern day movies, it would be considered 'bad writing' and people would make fun of it. It gets a pass because nostalgia though. ""I know....somehow...I've always known." I mean come on dude the list goes on and on. The point is harsh critics of the prequels like you are not being honest with yourself. The prequels are extremely similar to the original trilogy, but your rose tinted nostalgia goggles blind you to the truth. In the end both movies have some cringey lines, but the originals get away with because of nostalgia. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. I love all 6 star wars movies, but Episode 2 is meh.

For example, "I need you to come out, look to your left, look to your right then walk forward." George replied that this is how they "fill the gaps", like on a road with lots of holes to make it smooth again, which is basically re-shooting the minor details that they missed when filming the main movie. Every movie goes through a period of reshoots. It is a natural part of filmmaking.
@CraigBickerstaff4 жыл бұрын
Considering how often the Hollywood press writes about re-shoots as though it's a sign of chaos and disaster on a film it's not all that surprising that people would assume re-shoots are the result of a bad director. In reality, I think re-shoots are more of a luxury of big-budget films these days. If you think something isn't working in the edit you can fix it with a re-shoot. It's not a fool-proofed process by any means but it can give you some added security for the final product. If George is a bad director, I would say he's really more of a bad writer it would be that he has a tendency to neglect things that make a movie more human and he doesn't have much respect for the audiences ability to grasp certain things and ideas which leads to some very ham-fisted dialogue and editing choices.

that's true, but its not just the reshoots. what makes him a poor director is his limited camera movement n the way he connects with actors. Also the fact that in the main shoots he did most of the scenes in 1 or 2 takes, and with prequels it was clear that his main focus for every shot was what the background n special effects were gonna look like. It amuses me you couldn't tell it wasn't George's work, you just spouted the usual internet cliche and had no idea what you're talking about. If you had an ear for dialogue you would have been able to tell he hired a script doctor to polish the dialogue, which has been going on in Hollywood for about 75 years, in case you didn't know it.

I know what are pickups . The main shoots were pretty much the same . I know many VFX artists like Jim Rygiel , Randal Cook . They have pretty much told me the general way of shooting . But SW was really bad because the screens used to composite images must need real backdrop . But seeing from star wars the dialogue scenes are done by walking on green stages with totally digital backdrops even in the conversation scenes . That was 2000s and all out VFX was not done well ... I don't believe CGI was the biggest problem of SW but it was an important problem .

The Clone environment , All the Coruscant backdrops , the whole temple composite in the first movie , the list goes on and on . . Look the difference between 77-83 and 2000 was 77-83 were photographed elements , so basically they were filmed and composited. These are not photographed element + The digital technology was at the very nascent stage in terms of shooting the stuff ..What breaks the suspension of belief is the lack of interaction of the characters of the environment and extreme difficulty for the actors because of their inability to react to anything . This is not film making is done . There are more scientific explanations which I can give you but they will be too long . One example is the completely digital shots which do not require any kind of photography . The color distribution in that case amongst the film and even the pixels is never consistent with the ones that is photographed . Lack of visual consistency hurts the subconscious . This is one of the reasons why digital environments are given so much importance these days . There are artists just working on that aspect without the rest of the elements in a particular shot . They usually scan a photographic plate into the environment or do digital matte painting depending on the length of the shot and depth of the field . And secondly except Phantom menace the rest of the prequels were shot in Sony cameras which just came out so it was undercooked. With digital color distribution the nature is always discreet and cannot produce the spectrum of a continuous color distribution as in films .. In 2012-2013 VFX has come leaps and bounds in matching the live action and the composite lighting . All these things matter

i don't think he can delete your comments? Anyway why don't you repost it? What Sanchayan is saying seems to be = what JJ Abrams has done with TFA.

The only thing i've said is Abrams agrees with Sanchayan. Are you saying that Abram doesn't agree or you just using playground insults because your have morality issues? if you've said a post several times with links in it might get automatically treated as spam. i know that's pretty lame it's youtubes fault and the spammers

All directors have to do reshoots. What makes George a bad director is everything he shoots.

like you could do better

The tons of reshoots Lucas did on each prequel film just proves how bad a writer/director he is. Plus it made for some ridiculous scenes in which Ewan had some awful wigs and fake beards on.

how many movies have you made ? mmm ? don't call someone being bad when you yourself can't even make anything better.

Coming here in 2019 to inform you about Rogue ONe being 30% reshot and Solo being 80% reshot. This is at most 5% of the movie being reshot, and it is planned.
