Back to Obi-Wan’s visit to Padmé, he knows straight away that Padmé is lying to him about where Anakin has gone. He then cuts straight to the chase and tells her that Anakin has turned to the Dark Side. She is disgusted by his revelation but upon seeing Obi-Wan’s clear devastation, she knows that Obi-Wan has no reason to lie to her about what has happened.
It is when he gets up to leave that you know that he knows everything when he asks “Anakin’s the father, isn’t he?” Padmé gives no response and can’t look him in the eyes. “I’m so sorry.”
So, I think it is safe to assume that Obi-Wan put the pieces together but not all of them because he never implies that he knows Anakin and Padmé are married.

Hayden would always be Anakin to me. He doesn't just crack random jokes about someone who dies or is injured like Matt Anakin. I admit Anakin had a lot of moments in that show, but in the Prequels, he is more relatable and tragic.

2:30 I love the symbolism of this shot. Anakin is crying about all the terrible things he has done but he still has a little light to hold on to: Padme. He must comfort himself by thinking he is doing thses things for her. So when he feels betrayed by her, he'll lose it completly to the darkside.

And that was part of Palpatine's plan.... paint anakin into a corner with distrust and visions of his wife dying in child birth, knowing Anakin will do anything to not lose her like he lost his mother. So Palpatine gives him the solution, knowing Padme would never accept Anakin's choice and the terrible things he would have to do. Papa Palpatine always wins 😎.

@Al I'm not denying the greatness of the OT's music, I'm just adding that the first 5 seconds of music that appears when Obi-Wan says "Anakin has turned to the dark side" is among the best there is in Star Wars in my opinion, subtle but good. The swelling of the music in 1:55 and everything that follows is also great Both trilogies have spectacular music. The OT has the Star Wars theme, Imperial March, Binary Sunset, A Jedi's Fury, Yoda's Theme... The PT has Anakin's Dark Deeds, Duel of the Fates, Across the Stars, Anakin's Betrayal, Battle of the Heroes, Padmés Ruminations... Less iconic but still great imo

2:31 This actually is so much sadder than people realize. Anakin looking into the sun setting while it's being blocked by the clouds is almost the same as the slippery slope he is falling down. Just that the light won't rise again in Anakin's mind. That's why he sheds a tear because this is one of the last moments we see what he really thinks. From then on. He is consumed by darkness, burned, and put into a torture suit for almost 30 years.

And with the lava beneath, gives of imagery of what people traditionally think of Hell and in Vader/Anakin's case looking up at at the almost golden glow of the sun of the light side. further showing his fall/damning himself to the loss of his limbs and the suffering of continued pain from the suit but mental & emotional pain of knowing A) he put himself there b) all the wrongs he did albeit for good intentions & losing the very person he did it all for only for them to die through his fall to the dark side (be it Vader's anger or Palpatine's force siphoning Padme so Vader would survive the surgery to be put in the suit).

There is so much packed into that "I'm so sorry." from Obi Wan. Not only is he apologizing to her in advance for planning to kill the father of her unborn children, but I think he is also apologizing for tricking her here. He knows once he's told Padme of Anakin's fall to the Dark Side, she will immediately flee to Anakin, unknowingly bringing him along. He is setting up Padme to escort her husbands killer directly to him. Brutal.

You see after Anakin force chokes Padme that Kenobi is in shock and it's also at that moment that Obi Wan's demeanour changes towards Anakin. He seems much more certain that this is not the Jedi he trained or whom he considered a brother. Obi-Wan knew Anakin would never hurt Padme, and that he was now facing Darth Vader.

Which is what makes Luke redeeming him so great. Luke believed in him, even when Anakin himself didn't believe he was worth saving. Seeing Luke get electrocuted by Palpatine is what finally made it click for him.

That "I'm so sorry" has a lot of meanings and it hits way more when you think about it. Obi Wan is sorry because; he wasn't able to stop his friend/brother from falling to the dark side, he was hours away from fighting against Anakin with having no other chance than causing serious damage to him or killing him, he was in pain to see the Republic in ruins which Padme, himself and many others worked hard to defend, he was angry at himself and the other Jedi for not being able understand Palpatine's true nature, he was sad because of Padme's pregnancy in such a crazy era and many more...

Especially after that moment in Attack of the Clones where Anakin told Padme he slaughtered the women and children sand people. You could tell in that moment she was mortified but she must have convinced herself he did that because he truly loved his mother and that like she said it's natural to be angry. Perhaps she stayed with him at least partially out of fear and that in the hopes that if she loved him she could prevent him from falling to his demons again.

I know that learning the truth about Anakin is beyond crushing for Padme. But isn't it also devastating for her to learn that the Chancellor, who was once her adviser, was the Sith Lord who orchestrated everything. And that everything she had accomplished in the senate and sought to do was all for nothing.
@MMZERO9
@MMZERO9 Жыл бұрын
That’s something I’ve wondered about myself. It does help add context to Padmé dying of a broken heart because if she had truly processed everything Obi-Wan told her then she has to realize that everything she has aspired to since she was 13/14 years old has been completely in vain, and all because of Sidious and his Sith predecessors. The Republic was nothing but a sham, and Anakin’s own flaws/insecurities-which the Jedi Order did not bother to help him with-made him easy prey for Sidious to get a hold of at the age of ten. Plus, given the recent episodes of The Mandalorian, and if one does consider the sequel trilogy canon-the Republic never really comes back. For Padmé she would feel like her life had no meaning and she too was blinded by her love for the Republic. Heck, the Jedi were blinded by their own attachment to the Jedi Code, which had become too archaic. In all, it is a tragedy.
@DoctorWhoKage
@DoctorWhoKage 3 ай бұрын
@@MMZERO9 the Jedi were also blinded by their attachment to the Republic, which is ironic considering how staunchly they were against attachments. That was why Darth Sidious became the Chancellor and then later the Emperor. He knew how attached the Jedi were to the Republic (especially so since they were the ones who created it), and capitalized on that. I don't think the Sith have ever before bothered using politics to get what they wanted (which was supremacy over the entire galaxy) so, at the time, what Darth Sidious did was entirely new as far as the Sith were concerned. Many, many Sith have tried attacking the Jedi from without but Darth Sidious was the first one to attack the Jedi from within. After all, betrayal from within is hard to detect and even harder to expect.

@@jameshaggerty8348 I don't believe Vader would have murdered Typho or any Guard and Handmaiden of Padmé. Look at Sabé in the new Vader's comic. There was supposed to be a moment where Obi-Wan locks eyes with Padme, after they sit on the couch, and he says very bluntly "Padme.... he killed Younglings." Very stone faced.
