Dont waste your time with trioloy girl, trust me, i am saving you time you will never regain ever again. Watch anything but Disney SW, movies i recommend: Van Hellsing Xmen trilogy El Camino (jesse pinkman) Godfather 1 and 2 Im not a troll or hater, but these movies are the university definition on how not to write a script for a trilogy, they are pure and utter most nonsense, and become incoherent in substance and creativity.

Exactly I loved this movie, because I am old enough to have watch the Originals, when they released so this was great memories, by yea part 8 and 9 are stupid, makes no sense, tons of plot holes, bad writing and story :(

@@MudbloodGamer76 I watched this disappointment too when it came out, out of crowd hype and nostalgia, but boy was this movie a blatant plagerization of George Lucas's episode iv. Not only was it a copy and paste, but it was a mockery and disrespect to characters that were supposed to be immortal, never to be seen as expendable (Han Solo). Total and utter trash, im sorry to be so negative but yeah, these movies should be in the void. 😆

It is very difficult to imagine a more awful turn of events in popular entertainment. Perhaps that was how Ford came on board the film - on the strength of a promise that he need not come back for any more (like Charlton Heston with the second *Planet of the Apes* film). Difficult, also, to describe the outcry that smote my ears in the theater at that moment - a sort of smothered bastard child of gasp, shriek, and moan; a mingling of shock, horror, dismay, outrage, sorrow, and a dozen other related terms. All stared in absolute disbelief as he went spiraling, senseless, into the abyss. (Of course, I may be deluding myself and blowing the actuality out of proportion.) For my own part, it had been four full decades since I had seen the original Episode IV as a seven-year-old, and having become well versed in filmic technique of storytelling, my heart sank the instant Solo strode out to the bridge to confront his renegade offspring. The logic of the set-up made it as certain as if Lucas himself were sitting next to me and slowly shaking his head. I said not a word in the decisive moment - only allowed my head to sag, and think, simply, "So long, old friend." And all I can say in conclusion is that, when Starkiller Base went up like a nova, said I to myself: "Truly, a funeral pyre befitting a hero of the likes of Han Solo." 🏅 😢 😊

As for Han dying, it has been said for a while that Harrison Ford actually wanted Han to die waaaay back in Empire Strikes Back, he though it would be an interesting story development to have such an important character die. So in this one, I have a feeling they just really wanted to give him that big send off.

Agreed and true. Ford wanted his character to make a meaningful impact in the story. Let's face it: Han in Episode 6 is a lot like Finn, useful and enjoyable, but totally secondary to the plot.

In the German dub, they even used the dubbing actor who voices Craig since Casino Royale! I recognized that voice immediately in the cinema because his German dubbing voice is so unique and recognizable (and fits Crai really well btw)

BTW, at one point you asked how the convinced Harrison to come back. One answer is plenty of money. The second answer also answers your question about why the killed him. Harrison said he would only come back if they killed the character. He actually figured Han should have died in Empire.

I remember reading an interview with Harrison and he said he never really thought of Han as being intelligent enough to make it to old age. Also, whether in Empire or Jedi, that he had wanted/expected Han to die heroically or tragically. I feel like they kind of managed both.

@@3monthbender he was also biased and wanted Han to die so he could move on and focus on other roles. Unfortunately Han Solo to Harrison Ford was just a way to get into more acting roles, he has no reverence for anything that Star Wars fans have reverence for.

Parsecs. ..... not seconds. a Parsec is a unit of distance, not time. meaning that the Falcon had the ability to close space-time more efficiently than any other vehicle. meaning... it didn't go "faster" .... but it went '"shorter" .... meaning that it's 'hyperdrive' was more impressive at space-time calculations than and expression than any other hyperdrive engines. its like saying "he finished the race 3 miles ahead of the standard finish line." .... if that makes sense.

But he's never seen or mentioned in movie lore, right? The only way people would know is if they read the extra source materials they put out. I don't mind when characters get expanded upon in books or games, but when you're presented with someone for the first time on screen seeming like someone you should know who they are or why they're important I don't think that should be done outside of the main material of the movies. At least not without giving more context later on or something. This guy wasn't mentioned again after that scene, yet as viewers we're given the impression that we should know who he is and his connection to Kylo Ren and why it's significant for him to have that dialogue with Kylo and then be killed by him.

In hindsight I honestly think it would have been more fun to switch the sides. The Rebels finally won and took power, and then became comfortable and a little power hungry, searching out former Imperials and executing them. Luke goes into exile because he sees the injustices of this and refuses to become the enemy they once fought, but through Rey finds himself being dragged back into the hero role one more time. Kylo Ren could be the guy who wants nothing to do with either the new republic nor the former rebels, and believes in a third option. Of course it's very easy for me to play sofa quarterback, but it does feel to me like they basically played it too safe: the rebels are still rebels and inexplicably the new order seems just as powerful as the empire ever was, which just feels like a cheap reset after Star Wars episode 6.

Right after Kylo killed Han, Chewbacca shot him in the side. That's the spot he keeps hitting when fighting Finn and Rey. He's causing pain to himself which causes anger which, in turn, causes him to be more focused, more resolved, and increases his dark side power.

Yea shit load that helped him, was even for a moment with a stormtrooper with a lightsaber LOL, then got his ass kicked by Rey, a brand new force sensitive, no training at all, and just kicks him a new one, that reason alone (for me) is what ruins the entire 7,8,9... at least make her unskilled in Ep 7 pfff, but of course everybody knows this :)

@@MudbloodGamer76 The movie went out of the way to show her skill with a staff in the beginning. She might not be trained in the force but she still knows how to use a weapon. Finn similarly was trained his entire life. While I agree I dont think they should have so easily beaten Kylo Ren it's not as big of a skill difference as people like to make it sound, especially with his injury. I felt like it was also ridiculous when Luke managed to deflect those blaster bolts while blind so quickly. They only showed him trying once failing, trying again and getting it 3 in a row. Literally just started his force training and has little to no real combat training as far as I can tell by how easily that Tusken Raider took him out but still managed to do that on his second try blind. People are just way pickier these days.

At Disney World they have a reproduction of the Millennium Falcon. When my sister and I turned the corner and saw it, I got goosebumps and childhood flashbacks. It was amazing! I also was shocked when Han died. Never got over it.

Personally, I like to think that the “call to the Light” that Kylo was feeling was Anakin trying to tell his grandson not to make the same mistakes he did. As one of the other comments suggested Adam Driver, who plays Kylo Ren, used to be a United States Marine. That is where he most likely learned the practice of self-adrenalizing like his repeated pounding of his wound when you get injured. I think you actually might have missed Chewie, after Han's murder...Cries out in Anger and Pain. You leaned back and said "Poor Chewie" But while you did that Chewie hit Kylo twice...with well aimed shots from his powerful Bowcaster (laser crossbow) That was the blood you see in the snow next to Ren's boot...and what he keeps pounding with his fist near his ribs. I guess the thinking behind that being..yes it hurts... but if you know you're in pain...you KNOW you're still alive.

He was hitting himself where Chewbacca shot him with his bowcaster. (The blaster that Han said he liked.) Sith use pain and suffering as their source of strength. I love seeing these movies through your eyes, and how you try to remember the nuances of previous films. Don't worry about the purists, like them for what they are. Great reaction, Cassie.

Kylo kept hitting himself because siths draw their power from direct pain,suffering and conflict. Inflicting suffering on himself focuses his ability with the force while injured like administered adrenaline to continue strenuous activity.

This is the correct answer. Unfortunately, the canon considers him an unaligned force user at this point of the sequels. I would’ve greatly liked to see Kylo gain his iconic Sith eyes after killing his father.

They specifically shift the camera to the blood in the snow immediately after, to show he's trying to stifle his wound. He's not a Sith, and never is/was. He's a Dark Jedi and that's all.

I liked, even kinda *loved* this movie at first... until I started thinking about it. On its own terms and on a completely surface-level, it is quite enjoyable and fun and works well enough as a Star Wars-Movie. It strikes the right balance between fun, suspense, mystery and action, has likeable characters, a good sense of humor and good pace... but it starts falling apart in the story-department once you even slightly scrutinize it. If I had to sum up my problems with TFA, I would concentrate on two main issues: 1.) The story is basically a repeat of Episode IV, but with its main plotpoints reshuffled and stiched together with a hot needle, involving insane amounts of sheer luck and coincidence. 2.) More importantly, the movies' entire premise builds off the fact that everything that was accomplished in the Original Trilogy, everything the OT-Heroes have fought for and everything that they set out to do at the end of Episode VI... has been completely destroyed between movies: The New Republic for which creation the Rebels fought for? Reduced to a nonentity that gets taken out easily. Lukes' New Jedi Order? Annihilated. Han and Leias' relationship? They broke apart after their only son turned to the darkside, causing them to return to basically the same places they were at the start of the OT, their character development reset. I could go on.... Basically, there is a gigantic disconnect between Ep.VI and VII and I feel like it didn't need to be this way. They could have easily started off with a New Republic and a New Jedi Order going up against a new Enemy that *wasn't* just the Empire 2.0... but nope, they just did a full reset to basically tell the old story again, but worse. Good for you that you liked it. I'm jealous, really. But I'm basically *done* with this trilogy at this point. The Prequels, for all their faults 1) did their own thing, and 2) didn't ruin the OT for me.

When I first saw it in theatres after seeing Return as a teenager, I loved it. Then when I watched it again I noticed a few things that bothered me, the more I watched it. One thing that still really pissed me off was after Han died, Leah just walks past Chewie, who she has literally fought with for god knows how long, to hug Rey, whom she just met less than a day ago. I'm sorry, what?

Abrams already admitted making a mistake here. He just wanted to have this emotionale moment with Leia and Rey. Though he totally forgot about the lore and the history of Leia and Chewie. When pointed out he said that he was really sorry that he messed this up.

The part that gets me the most is when Ben/Kylo kills Han, Chewie doesn't go for a kill shot because Ben is family. Can you imagine what could've been racing through Chewie's mind in that moment? Ben being born, all the good times they had while Ben grew up. It's heartbreaking

There is a comic/graphic novel, and the page with that scene has Chewie lining up for a head shot, then thinking back on being there as Ben was growing up, then shifting his aim.

They don't spend enough time processing Chewie as a living being with emotions and thoughts. The howling in anger and sadness and then shooting Kylo is tragic to watch. I wish they had a scene on the Falcon afterwards where Rey translates what Chewie is going through, how he lost his best friend and the boy he probably helped raise was the cause of it.

Couple of cameos in this one..... Simon Pegg (yes, Benji from Mission Impossible) as the guy on Jakku giving out the "portions"..... and Daniel Craig (who happened to be filming Bond in the studio next door) as the StormTropper that Rey convinces to "remove these restraints, leave the weapon".... if you listen you can hear their voices, especially Daniel Craig.....

You're not the only one. John Boyega and Oscar Isaac have been very vocal about how they hated how their characters got shafted throughout the sequel saga. Rey does pretty much everything, while Finn just sort of tags along uselessly and Poe is either shoved into the background or written like an unlikable jerk. Check out some of their interviews. I'm not sure what was worse about the Sequel Trilogy: the way it treated legacy characters or the fact that it fundamentally rejected the heart of Star Wars which is a group of friends going on an adventure together. Fin, Poe, and Rey are only together for a scant few minutes in the whole trilogy.

This is by no means a "bad movie." It is entertaining as fuck and JJ knows how to make movies like that very well. It really makes you use your imagination wondering what happened the last 30 years, what these things are setting up and all that.

A lot of the specific complaints with this film, specifically, had to do with the story being too similar to 'A New Hope'. They share a *lot* of story beats and a lot criticized the lack of originality. A lot of other criticism stemmed from Rey being far too competent for someone with no training in the Force. For the purpose of avoiding spoilers, I'll cap it here.

exactly. We needed a full movie before Like could summon his lightsaber through the air even then with great difficulty and even longer before he could move small rocks. Wasn't until Return of the Jedi that he could do mind tricks. Meanwhile Rey right off the bat is a Jedi expert, & can fly the Falcon like she has 10,000 hours...yeah ok.

Yes, OP Rey with nothing ever really challenging her is a good % of it. Luke's treatment ( you'll see coming up ), and some null / voiding old moments that were pivotal. I will leave it vague and let you see it.

There are two characters in popular franchises. Both raised without their parents, in an enviroment full of outlaws. Both good at engineering, piloting, weapons combat, fighting without seeing them "train". Both knew instictively to use a powerful force to save the day. One is Starlord , the other Rey. One was instantly beloved , the other was called a Mary Sue. Food for thought.

@@jasond1500 they needed a full movie for Luke to learn that (moving objects through the force) because George Lucas decided that that was something you could do with the force. Luke's "training" in EP. 5 was cut off short at best, and then he went to face Vader even after Yoda literally told him not to. We also see in episode 6 that the powers he had gained were self-taught, or at least we're allowed to believe that because he clearly states he hadn't visited Yoda since EP. 5. All this to say, training isn't everything. If you're a person who's just naturally strong in the force, you're going to be naturally strong in the force period. Might be kind of a dumb plot device, but that's just the way the force works. Let us not forget that in the original Star Wars A New Hope, we're supposed to believe a guy who had never flown anything outside of the planet could hit a tiny hole without his targeting computer, just using the force, with no training, and completely save the day, the planet, and the rebels. We explain this away by saying Luke had a T-16 and had practiced shooting womp rats. We can do the same with Rey. She lived by herself in a planet full of thugs, so obviously she's going to be a good fighter as we see at the beginning of the movie. Then, because she's linked to the force, she's able to use those capabilities in a way far greater than a non force-sensitive person would be able to.

At 53 years old, I saw the original Star Wars in the theaters with my Dad when I was 8 years old. I hated the prequels, and I was so excited when this came out. Most people didn't like this because of all the "fan service" and how it had the same type of story lines as the originals. I for one, DID NOT CARE. I saw this in a theater, opening night, surrounded by strangers, and it took my right back to when I was eight again. Although I had lost my dad, I could feel his presence all around me in that theater. When it was over, I just started crying and I couldn't stop. It was a culmination of my Dad, the impact that Stars Wars had on my life, and the joy of seeing all those late 70's and early 80s flicks with my Dad. I was one of four kids, but the movies was always me and my Dad's thing. As I was sitting there, blubbering, the lights came on. And in a true testament to all Star Wars fans, the guy next to me turned to me and said, "It'll be okay man." Now I'm crying as I write this, because, Cassie, I love your real reactions of a real NEW fan. Just like thinking of my Dad, you bring me back to those special times as well. Thanks for helping me think of my Dad again tonight. Happy and sad tears again. Like you, now I need a tissue.

Thank you for this. People just don't understand the impact this franchise has had on people. Star Wars isn't just about the stories the movies tell (which are amazing BTW) it's about having fun. If you watch a Star Wars movie and don't have fun, even if it's just laughing at the hammy dialogue, you are no longer human. Also if you can't watch one of these and cry you're not human, you grow up with these characters and then they die, just like real life. It's so sad when you loose someone, and I feel like Star Wars can be like therapy in many cases. The stories are usually uplifting, which is something we definitely need right now.

Definitely a big moment. But another super short scene that also brings tears to my eyes is that flashback of Rey as a child screaming "Come back!" as the ship flew off. Something about a child being scared and alone really gets to me and that little actress really sold that fear with her voice/scream.

I saw this movie on opening night immediately after watching all 6 prior movies in chronological order. Movie theater decision not mine. I spent from 9am till about 5pm on Wednesday waiting in line. Then I got seats for my wife and I at the top left corner. I had blankets, pillows, and my backpack all with me. I picked the top that if we wanted to one of us could lay down at the top platform. Episode 1 started at 10pm and there was a 30-40 minute break in between each movie. The auditorium was about 70% full. The theater had charging stations for us to charge our phones. You could feel the excitement. We were given free reusable cups, and popcorn passes plus this chain had solid food fare compared to other chains at the time. To Duel of the Fates, Yoda fighting, obiwan vs anakin, and the original trilogy on the big screen again was amazing. Even my wife who likes but not loves Star Wars wasn’t burnt out after Return of the Jedi. She was excited and eager for Episode 7. The start of the scroll had the largest cheer in any movie screening I’d been to up to that point. There were cheers at seeing the Falcon, every OG character, and when Rey got the lightsaber. When Han said, ‘chewy we’re home, along with a big cheer someone yelled ‘damn right you are!’ I felt I got to see it with my perfect audience and was an experience I’ll never forget.

This one had several weaknesses (like Rey being instantaneously great at everything she did and kind of lacking motivation to actually get a teacher). It had a lot of cool elements as well (a storm trooper switching sides), but the other two movie were so much worse story-telling. The acting was mostly great (with the exception of some combat choreography), the special effects were superb, but the story of the new trilogy is really a mess, and especially in the later two films trying to undo what was established in the previous one.

This one I think is a decent enough star wars movie. It offered up plenty of intrigue and mystery for further episodes to peel back on. Where the new trilogy really put up a wall between new fans and old fans is the next one. "The Last Jedi". TFA biggest problem is, that it threw the audience into a world that was nothing like the one left in RotJ. The contrast was just to much to be believable, and while i agree that a good written episode 8 could have made up for most of it, i still think it was just a cheap attempt of nostalgia bait (seeing how its structure was basically a copy of New Hope). Even when i watched it for the first time it left a strange feeling, like something just wasn´t right but i couldn´t grasp what it was.

Also I wish Finn could have taken like stormtrooper armor or kept his stormtrooper armor or got a new one and like put it design of the red blood going down from the forehead down to the left side as like his sign in the in the resistance as that's his sign of his squadron and it would show him basically where the stormtrooper armor but not be a stormtrooper and have it as a symbol in a way I think that would have been really cool in my opinion like if his squadron basically went after like that type of symbol and he was like the leader of it and that's why but sadly they never did that

For why Rey and Chewie went to find Luke, I think Leia didn't go at the end because she has to command the Resistance. Chewie knows the Falcon and also knows Luke. Rey meanwhile needs Jedi training, plus Han was going to offer her a place on the Falcon and Chewie would definitely want to honour his wishes.

Hey Cassie, if you want to see a very young Harrison Ford, then watch "American Graffiti." I think it was his first movie where he had a significant character. He said in an interview many years later that before his big break in that film he mostly played non-speaking hippie characters who stood around in the background of scenes.

Stormtroopers are real people with emotions as you pointed out. They could have made a lot based on this but chose not to... It is the same Han as in the beginning of Ep4. What makes no sense because he wasnt the same even at the end of Ep4. The whole Han Solo - Rey relationship had a lot of potential in my opinion. But they chose not to develop it further... Yeah... I got the impression that Kylo Ren/ the makers of the movie totally did not understand the arc of Anakin/ Vader. That they just wanted his mask in this as a nice prop. The whole worldbuilding of this does not make a lot of sense. There is no explenation ever given how the resistance is so small and the first order so large after the events of the OT... Han died probably because Harrison Ford not liking the approach Disney took with starwars and also he cost too much money... I mean, there are many good ideas and approaches in this, dont get me wrong, but they just didnt follow through on any... There is literally a 4 part 11 hour essay by MauLer critiquing this movie on youtube. And I recommend every single minute of it.

For lifelong Star Wars fans this was essentially a retread of some sorts of "A New Hope", but we had waited for so long that we took what we could get. The exception was that they killed off Han Solo in the first movie of a trilogy, denying fans the reunion (Han, Leia, and Luke) we had been waiting for over 30 years to see. It set us all up for the much anticipated second movie you'll eventually watch where we would finally get to see what became of Master Luke.

Took what we could get explains it perfectly. I think a lot of fans initially had a much higher tolerance for the flaws than they've been given credit for, but Last Jedi's characterization of Luke was just too major a problem to accept. Like I remember every step of the way with Force Awakens (going back to the trailer) I was thinking, "Well, this isn't what I wanted to see, but it's nice to have Star Wars sequels, and maybe episode 8 will make the direction they took worthwhile." I'm not talking about nitpicks, I'm talking about stuff that was universally anticipated from the get-go, like Luke's new order of jedi knights, the onscreen reunion of the three main characters, and a galaxy that hasn't just devolved back into Rebels vs Empire. But even lacking those things, I was still ready to enjoy the sequels for what they were until they (SPOILER) made Luke a cynical failure and then killed him off so he could never finish the job of restoring the jedi order. Some people act like it's so insane to heavily dislike seeing the main hero killed off with his character marred and his achievements undone. But to me, that's a major detriment to the story, and there was no way I could have ever enjoyed that kind of portrayal of Luke after how much I loved the original trilogy.

It's not that we don't want people to have their own opinions, it's that most of the haters opinions are either nitpicky or just based on nothing other than bias. It's clearly been pointed out over the years that Luke was also a novice in the force but did unbelievable things with no flack, but Rey comes along and it's a huge feminist conspiracy that she can do things. Because what, she's a female. In ANH we knew just as little about Luke's true past as we do about Rey's in TFA. Like what you like, but for the vitriol and hate to still be so strong so many years later is extremely telling.

I loved Force Awakens when it came out. I loved the setup of the new characters and was excited where they would go with this. Finn and Rey had such great chemistry. And for some dumb reason they split them up in 8 and 9. And obviously those movies have so many problems. It's sad to see how 7 set up so much potential in this movie and then they failed so miserably with everything that comes after.

It was clear that they decided that the prequels (which I love) were a failure and that "safety" could be achieved by copying the original films. It was only later when I mulled over the story, that I decided I didn't like it so much. Then 8 & 9 came out and solidified that dislike into something stronger.

He keeps hitting himself in the wound where Chewie shot him. The action supposedly helps him harness more of the darkside to flow through him, to keep him alive and strong. That blast from chewie's bow blaster would have killed anyone else.

@@n2nother Actually the fact that he's able to hit himself shows he wasn't seriously wounded. The wound is clearly at his far left side and is never shown outside his clothes - it could have been a graze for all anyone knows

I still like this one. The next two are ones I have issues with. I actually felt this one was a great start to a new trilogy, but I definitely feel the changing of directors caused a differing opinion behind the scenes on what the trilogy SHOULD be, and therefore the ideas conflicted and the story ends up becoming a bit of a mess.

I agree, personally I understand people's gripes that the plot is heavily influenced by A New Hope, but my feelings when watching it was "the magic is back", it was an emotional return to new Star Wars movies that had a lot of promise and as a start of a new trilogy it definitely did some good things right and set up some new plot points.

And, in episode 8, Princes WILL & HARRY talked their way into Stormtrooper outfits and had non-speaking extra roles .. .. They were front & center in their one scene .. ..

I originally came into this movie having read the “Aftermath” novels, which are really good. The First Order does pickup where that series left off, but would have been much better to reference the Emperor’s backup plan from before Vader killed him.

Han dying wasn’t so much of an issue - It’s what Harrison Ford wanted after all. Mark Hamill summed it up when he said he was disappointed that Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie didn’t all get to properly reunite and have their time together before Han died. It’s what Mark wanted and he felt it’s what the fans wanted. And he was right. After this trilogy was made, and Mark was no longer under contract, he was very vocal about his criticism of the sequels. He didn’t find out until quite late that he wouldn’t have any lines in this film, and he really disliked what they did with Luke’s character in the later films. In some respects Mark Hamill is one of Star Wars’ biggest fans and he voiced a lot of things that the fans really resonated with. This film is the best of the sequel trilogy. I actually quite liked it, even if it was a bit derivative of A New Hope. But the next two films lacked coherence, lacked good story-telling, failed to unlock some of the potential of this film and were generally a disappointment for many

I'm a big time Star Wars fan my dad introduced me to the original Three and then I saw in the 90s the next three. As a lifelong Star Wars enthusiast. I actually think these most recent three are actually top of the line.

Remember in Return of the Jedi, when Yoda told Luke Skywalker to "pass on" what he had learned? That would mean Luke Skywalker training a whole new generation of Jedi starting with his sister Leia, so what happened to all those new Jedi? ??? Remember, this movie takes place 30 years after Return of the Jedi. A lot of training can happen in 30 years. Given the events of Return of the Jedi, there should have been a bunch of young new Jedi trained under Luke & Leia & they should have been going places & doing things. The "opening crawl" synopsis at the beginning of the movie doesn't explain why the Rebel Alliance has been reduced to a resistance, or who Snoke is, or what Snoke's agenda is. It all goes back to sub standard writing. Take the time to think about the story in the original trilogy & the the story of this movie.

@@lisamarieligreci-newton7804 Yeah, when I first saw Force Awakens in theaters I was disappointed they didn't use the Story from Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy about Luke Skywalker rebuilding the Jedi Order with a new generation of Jedi. Except that Story only takes place 5 years after Return of the Jedi.

I'm glad you liked this movie because you know what? We liked it too when it was released! It is still the #1 North American movie of all time by $78M over Avengers: Endgame. It had the biggest opening weekend ever, at the time, with $247M. It still has the biggest 2nd weekend and 3rd weekend ever! It wasn't until the next movie came out that the division exploded and certain people started picking apart everything in the sequal trilogy.

Oh my I was JAZZED when I saw this movie on opening night! Who was Rey? Who was Snoke? Why would Kylo kill his Dad? Where is Luke? Why is Leia leading a resistance against instead of in charge of Government etc? Then the 8th movie came out and crapped on all those questions. Dont' get me wrong. I just kind of accept that the 8th and 9th episodes exists but this episode 7 was GOOD and 8 and 9 are just Meh or Blah... Hehehe. I just laught about it now.

The reason why Kylo kept hitting himself in the abdomen is because Chewie shot him there, and he decided to hit his wound to tap in to more of the Dark Side. A bit weird, but I guess he needed it to focus, while being that badly wounded?

Ben Solo is my favorite character in the Star Wars Universe. Especially since I read the comics about his story. There was no way he couldn't turn to the dark side with what he went through. Ben Solo deserved better!. Also, someone probably already told you, but the supreme leader is played by the same actor that played Gollum / Smeagol

This was the first Star Wars film I got to see in theater, so I had to go by myself opening night and it made me so happy, then sad, then happy by the end of it all because it was the beginning to a new series that I could watch in real time. I almost had forgot about Han, and I thought to myself, Cassie you might not want to watch this.

Oscar Isaac who played Poe also played Nathan in EX MACHINA also plays Duke Leto Atreides in the new DUNE reboot. Capt. Phasma, the female Storm Trooper Captain is played by Gwendoline Christie, the 6'3" actress known for beating on the boys as Brienne in GAME OF THRONES. Supreme Leader Snoke is a motion capture cgi creation played by non other than Andy Serkis, who played Caesar in PLANET OF THE APES, KING KONG, and of course Gollum/Smeagol in LORD OF THE RINGS. Warwick Davis (aka Wicket The Ewok) makes another STAR WARS cameo as Wollivan. Look for a young actress playing the part of Lieutenant Connix. Her name is Billie Lourd and her mother was Carrie Fisher. Another un-credited cameo is the Storm Trooper that Rey tries the Jedi mind trick on, is played by James Bond's Daniel Craig.

@@GummiAnd Henrik, Although George may not have known exactly where the end of his trilogy would lead him, his focus was mainly on telling a good story. When a story is good it includes elements that keep a viewer's attention in subtle ways that makes the individual characters relatable to the viewer. Although the personage of Darth Vader was mysterious, it did not saturate the plot of the story nor was a lot of attention drawn to who exactly Darth Vader was, or who Luke's and Leia's parents were, or if Vader was a puppet or a master, This made the subversion of Darth Vader as Luke's Father so much more impactful. George was focused upon how the plot and characters complement each other, however the same cannot be said for JJ. JJ's focus was mostly on the spectacle, using boisterous "mystery boxes" to spark curiosity and questions to string viewers along with ultimately no payoff. Why is the First Order the diet Empire? Why do they already have so much power? Why is there the need for a Resistance if the Republic should be in control of the galaxy? Where did Snoke come from? Who is Ray and why in the world is she so good at everything? Why would Fin run away from the order he was basically indoctrinated into since childhood? If it's because he doesn't want to kill why is he ok killing stormtroopers just some hours later? Where did Maz get Luke's lightsaber from? "A good question for another time." Ok, thanks J.J. Why would Luke just disappear? Why would Han leave Leia after Kylo went to the dark side; isnt that when they would need each other most? Why the planet size death machine again? Why is Kylo turned to the dark side when, presumably, he had parents and an uncle trying hard to pick up the pieces of the galaxy after the fall of the Empire? How in the world does Ray beat Kylo in use of the force and lightsaber when he has trained since youth and she has never known the force or seen a lightsaber? I could go on but my point is when a movie, or any form of entertaining media is more focused upon establishing spectacle and mysteries rather than plot and characters, the story becomes so watered down that it becomes hard to become invested in the overall journey of the characters on screen, so what do you do? Why, feed them more mystery boxes than a child could open at Christmas and enough spectacle that would give a Transformers movie a run for their money, and sprinkle it throughout to string viewers along so they have no time to realize they dont really relate to the characters at hand. Yes, I would consider that storytelling hackery. George Lucas's story was based in developed characters set against an immersive plot. For J.J. it was ultimately a movie based upon nostalgia and spectacle, which is fine, but without developed plot and characters the experience is shallow compared to what it could have been. Mystery boxes work well but without any established reason behind them they lose their magic. Now dont get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie, however, I am saddened when I think about how much better it could have been had the plot and depth of characters had at least matched the spectacle in magnitude.

I had to sit in the front row the first time that I saw this and missed a lot of the movie. I later went back and saw it in 3D from a good seat. The Jakku scene was amazing. There were embers floating all over the theater. 😮

Honestly I don't hate this movie at all. I actually kind of like it. It's just that the other two sequels are so bad and frustrating. So they kind of ruin this. And there were so many cool possibilites that they could have done differently, but many of this feels a bit safe and a carbon copy of a new hope. Kind of a spoiler next: ________ Like they could have made Finn lead a stormtrooper rebellion and make the other stormtroopers seem more human. But I guess Finn is just gonna blast his fellow stormtroopers minutes after just being one. Like cmon.

This movie brings back memories when I went to see it with my brother. Theaters at that time didn’t allowed us to reserve seats like we do now. We literally had to wait in the hallway for over an hour to get good seats 😂😂😂

The old man at the beginning of the movie was played by Max von Sydow. He was the old priest who was The Exorcist. He was also in a movie called The Greatest Story Ever Told where he played Jesus.

Honestly I liked it too. I think a lot of the hate comes from the fact it has almost exactly the same story beats as the original, but mostly the fact that the rest of the movies in this set didn't deliver in a satisfying way on the mysteries that this one set up (since they didn't bother writing the endings to those mysteries when they wrote this).

The older man you said looked familiar you may have seen in The Exorcist who played Father Merrin. He was young in 1973, but they used age make-up to make him look a lot like did in this movie now. A lot of people thought the actor that played Father Merrin was really that old.

i'm not a super big star wars fan (casual at best), but seeing this movie on the friday night of opening week was one of the greatest moviegoing experiences of my life. the energy in the theater was off the charts. i still remember the crowd going insane when they started running toward the falcon on jakku. and since i never had much of a deep childhood connection with the earlier star wars movies, force awakens became my favorite of the series, because it was the first time i went to the movies and really got swept up by a star wars. the subsequent sequels did taint it a little, but on that night, i was very happy with the franchise

I really enjoyed TFA ... yes, I recognized it was a beat for beat remake of A New Hope, but it felt like it was done tongue in cheek. The movie was meant to set the stage for new characters while bringing back the feels with some fan service. If the trilogy had followed this setup, I think it would have been okay. Not better than the originals or even Rogue One, but it would have been fine. Now the next movie ... I've seen it twice, and I can't bring myself to watch it again.

When this came out in theaters 3 different garrisons of the 501st legion took over the movie theater. I went as an Imperial stormtrooper officer (black suited officers in ANH) with the rank insignia of the actual rank I left the USN with of CDR. with the 3x3 plaque and a code cylinder on either side.

Happy for you that you liked it. For me there are basically just a few things that bug me about this movie. First: You suddenly get all these new characters that you understand are important but nobody really tells you why. You don't get any backstory to either Finn, Rey or Poe, they just pop up and suddenly mean everything. Everything happens so fast and you never get time to think about what is going on. And of course the story is basically Episode IV again.
