Older games like KOTOR put a lot more effort into the background ambiance, and despite the dated graphics and gameplay in some respects, pulled off a greater immersion than the newer games with empty feeling worlds you run around in.
@autumrose18 жыл бұрын
+compmanio36 agreed. I played SWG and KOTOR1/2 and now SWTOR. I never realized how much i missed the music and now it's so "zzzz" in SWTOR, it's kinda off putting
@compmanio368 жыл бұрын
I reinstalled it the other day, played for 2 seconds....and immediately regretted wasting the hour to reinstall it. It has some really good story telling, if you get that far...hard part is getting past the ridiculous amount of grinding to get there. KOTOR, I just got the story because it was the main part of the game, not "SUBSCRIBE NOW TO PLAY THE STORY FASTER! SUBSCRIBE NOW TO GET ENOUGH ACTUAL INVENTORY TO PLAY THE GAME PROPERLY! SUBSCRIBE! PAY US MONEY!" Same with Battlefront, or so I hear. I won't be buying that either.
@autumrose18 жыл бұрын
compmanio36 SWTOR is brutal when it comes to the strong-arming people to sub. It could have been so much more but EA is the devil that make the money it knows it can make off a Star Wars fans
@aaeriam8 жыл бұрын
+compmanio36 You know, as a younger kid I never really paid much attention to the ambiance but I was always immersed (especially with the kotor games). Nowadays I have a harder time getting immersed in games for reasons still mostly unknown to me and that's probably why I go back to games like KotoR fairly often, to capture that magical spark again. Looking back, it's crazy how well they did it in the kotor games with less than most triple A games today have.

jh 64 it’s kind of hard to say. I guess a few messages from the story are that even the best people make mistakes in life (revan and Bastilla). The whole light side/dark side thing helps remind me to do what’s right. And the Music especially just helps put me at peace after a stressful day of work. Which I think we can all agree on here.
@jh-ij4by4 жыл бұрын
@@aidantumlinson8504 i listen to these swtor games music with rain only. I think the dark side is a survive mode you want power, gain strength and cheat death it's actually what i am, a peasant in survive mode gain enough money all day.
@xinzlo61013 жыл бұрын
@@aidantumlinson8504 Yeah I never went full light side or dark side for that reason. I felt that in this game being a Grey Jedi was the most morally correct, and important way. KOTOR games and Mass Effect series taught me a lot about like how there isn't always a right decision. Or it's not clear at least.

I'm only 16, so I didn't get to experience this piece of art when it first came out, but I stumbled upon it at a Thrift store for $2 around a year ago. I played it and it quickly became a favorite game of mine! I enjoyed most everything about the game, every planet, piece of music, the story, and Manaan is probably my favorite planet.
@AsianTheDomination9 жыл бұрын
Hunter Graham I'm also 16, and I grew up playing this game with my dad in grade school. He always helped me with the puzzles and the dialogue in the game. I would have never gotten past the rancor if it weren't for him. Now I make it a tradition to play through both of these games every summer.

+Mathew McLaughlin I totaly hear you. Manaan and Nar Shaddaa were the closest we ever got to a Coruscant style land scape in KoToR. I really wish we could have gotten to go back to Coruscant as the Exile or something in the final game instead of just that one cut-scene which evolved into a mod.
@vithral88348 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. I hope this soundtrack is never forgotten about. This and the Dantooine OST send so many tingles down my spine. It's like I have ALS when listening to them. Even after JUST completing a playthrough not even a week ago. Everything about this soundtrack is just beautiful and relaxing. From the stormy background ambiance, to the calm orchestra, to the gentle wind rushing...It's just perfect. I love Manaan.

This game inspired me to learn every language on Earth, because in the game you innately knew every alien language. Knowing that this game will always be a part of my life and in my heart is enough for me to accept that I am growing up, and that the time this game entered my life is becoming further away. I will miss the years, and my adolescence (I am turning 20 next month) but I will always carry this game's essence in my heart. Those words are not enough.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was a game to remember. It was special in my hearts as it spoke true words of hope. kotOR had a beautiful story. It wasn't just a game that was fun to play, it was more. I could not tell you how many times I had played this over and over again to get it seeped into my head. Games now lack in diversity. They're too explicit and lack moments like these. kotOR was my inspiration and still is. You have brought back memories, as well as changed my life indirectly. This song, although it has no lyrics will speak indirectly to me with words of wisdom. kotOR will always be in my memory as a game to cherish. Thank you. Words can not explain how gracious I am for you posting this video. I hope to see more videos like these, and more videos from you. You have my gratitude. I will support your channel 100% of the way.

Well said. Knights of the old Republic is one of the best games ever made in ky opinion. But not simply from the perspective of being a "good video game". The reason I think it captured so many people's imaginations over the years is because I believe it breached the barrier of what a game is and what a peice of art is. After a certain point you, admire it as a piece of art. Wether it's music, visuals, story or otherwise.

This is the kind of soundtrack that you HAVE to listen to with the ambient background noise, or else you're not getting the full experience. It makes you feel like you're there, watching the calm ocean or watching ships come and go. God I love this game, never gets old just keeps getting more and more awesome.
@cbfdxbxsb5 жыл бұрын
Mandalore the Indomitable Totally agree. Music isn't just instrumentation, it's organised sound. The ambient noises add so much to the music. The instrumentation is great, but those passing ships, the fountains, the motors, it's all so lulling.

This is what I truly love about this game: The relaxing music, the story, and the characters. Revan's story was well done. Even if EA changed Revan in SWTOR, Revan will definitely be remembered by the long time star wars fans as a saviour and a conqueror who controlled both the light and dark sides of the force.

The first time I played this game I found myself drawn to the balcony seen in the background here. I looked out at that endless ocean and what I imagined took my breath away. There's a place on the southern coast of the US where you can stand at the tip of a peninsula, stare straight out into the Gulf, and see nothing but water. It is so rare to find a real place that compares with pure imagination.

My Favorite Side Quest in this game has to be the Sunry murder trial. It really asks you a great moral question. Do you try to prove he is innocent (although he isn't) and ensure that the Republic won't face any Kolto restrictions. Or do you hand him over as he did murder the Sith Lady and is guilty but at the risk of the Republic facing Kolto Restrictions? It was also nice to see Jolee's reaction to each outcome. (Unless of course it was your first play through... Then no matter what Sunry is guilty as you try to defend him with no evidence to support you)

I remember buying this game along with other Xbox games back in 2008 from craigslist (i got a deal for buying the system along with 10 other games). I would only play boxing and racing games until i got bored of it. So i decided to switch it to star wars. And my god after playing this game it became my favorite. I played this game and finishing the story like a million times. After graduating elementary i had to dump my games and the system itself because it became old and started causing problems. However, after finishing Grade 11 (after frickin 3-4 years) i remembered this melody somewhere. So i ended up buying this game on Steam. I do not regret paying $11. because ALL MY CHILDHOOD MEMORIES LIE IN THIS MELODY. Good times :D. I hope to god that this game has Kotor 3, and not as disappointing as Kotor 2. Kotor 1 rules.
