Edit: It's possible that he was originally given the name "Maul" which comes from the verb of "mauling" because it might have had a similar purpose as the Sith names since he was a son of Dathomir.

To the "what was Maul's non-sith name?" meme, I'm pretty sure Palpatine pulled a jedi and took Maul from Dathomir when he was a baby ("they ripped me from my mother's arms" - Maul from rebels) so his real name was never known to him, only the sith name he was given. Feel free to prove me wrong as I'm aware I don't now everything about the SW canon lore.
