May not have been as powerful against Imperial ships. Look at the volume difference between it and the ISD, it’s enormous. Probably would barely manage to destroy one ship at a time. But I’m sure the Empire would want to capture it at all costs and reverse engineer that reactor!

Imperial Security Bureau Yes. They would want to capture it, and this want it intact, giving the Gravestone the advantage. And I think they would want to duplicate the weapons system more than the reactor. There are many problems with reverse engineering a reactor, but less problems with shields and weapons. There could also potentially be problems with weapons, due to the ammo possibly being of unknown materials. Same problem with reactors, except for fuel.

I would be willing to guess that, in a way somewhat similar to how the Covenant in Halo fire and direct their plasma weapons using obscenely powerful directable magnetic fields that cause the highly electrically charged projectile to follow a specific path, this may be using a very powerful field to "reshape" a very powerful shield bubble that would otherwise just be an extremely resilient barrier, making it spike out in those multiple projections that lance right through capital ships like they were nothing. Badass.

Exactly, the beam obviously chains from one ship to another. If you look closely to the animation you see the beam destroy the center ship then chains to the ships next to it. There aren't multiple beams coming from the ship like the narrator thinks.

I was thinking the same thing. I like the theory about converting shield energy into the destructive beam, and having a way to convert the target's shield into an echo of that blast would seem to fit. It also adds the interesting tactical decision to drop shields when the Tombstone prepares to fire, since that might break the chain and prevent it from proliferating, although it wouldn't save the target ship. Could be good drama there.

From my observation, the Gravestone uses the Eternal Fleet's unique hyperwave network as a means of allowing the energy of the omnicannon from the first ship to the next and so on till the energy fired is exhausted. Turning the Eternal Fleets strength into a weakness. Given that both were made by the same race, this makes sense.

Idea on how it works: Try the Ledgends novel DeathStar there is a description of the main cannon opperation including the focusing satelite where the beam converges. It says without that satellite the beam wouldnt maintain coherence and would scatter...sound familiar?

My guess would be some kind of resonance that destabilizes the shields on the target ship, the difference would be that instead of dissipating the energy it releases in an explosion and destroys the ship before it discharges into a nearby ship repeating the process. Maybe it causes a cascade failure that feeds back to overload the power core?

About the way this weapons seems to work: The beam seems to be coming from the shields of the Gravestone, and then jump between targets - again - starting from their shields. I'd say it's workings have everything to do with the way shields work in Star Wars. Turning them themselves into uncontrolled versions of original beam that are drawn to other shields. And because they aren't controlled the same way it is on the Gravestone, they lose their power with each hop.

Looks like the secondary strikes are coming from left over energy from each subsequent target. First target branches to a few more which chain to a few more each.

From what I remember of a discussion about it is that the EE ships link up to fire rapidly through some sort of wireless power transfer. Disrupt the transfer and that section of ships goes up in smoke.

It's as if the Gravestone could blow up any droid ship because its beam weapon was anathema to some basic element about being a droid, and that reaction was extremely volatile - akin to matter and anti-matter. If that droid ship was closely networked to nearby droid ships; those too would blow up or be damaged, if enough power was still available in its beam energy. When the fleet of droid ships was building power together for their super weapon the Gravestone using its beam weapon was able to wipe out that entire fleet due to the reaction in that fleet's own networked power buildup. New to Starwars stuff here, and for some reason this popped up in my YT feed, but did want to hypothesize how such a beam would function.

Those beams are arcing off the shields of the ships it strikes. You're spot on with it being shield based. At my guess, it turns the powerful shields of the Eternal Fleet ships against themselves, causing the shields to buckle and collapse against the ships itself, or perhaps otherwise arching through the shields and drawing power from them. When it strikes a suitable shield, it proceeds to arc from that shield to nearby ships with similar shields, propogating the effect and allowing it to strike multiple targets at once. Probably all said before already.

The odd thing in the middle of the ship looks like one of the old organic Sith meditation spheres to me. The "windows" also bear a similar appearance to the ones in Palpatines throne room. With the ancient Sith meditation spheres having enough "firepower" to blow up stars there could be a connection between those things. Like the ancient Sith somehow salvaged some locathi relics thus having some similar tech. Or the locathi and Sith did both got their tech from some other source. Perhaps the Gree. Or some Celestial stuff.

I personally believe that its creating a disruption effect on the shields, which reacts as the shield emitters and/or generators short circuiting, then blowing up, and it’ll be like smoking at a gas pump, or worse, a fireworks storage facility… That remaining tech could be the warped opposite of sentient crystals. And Iokath could be read as One, Zero, & Kath such as those Kath Hounds, which implies a lot.

I agree that it looks like they turned the shield generators into a weapon. And based on the animation, I think what it's doing is overloading the shield generator on the target ship and then projecting the energy out to the next ship's shield generator, creating a domino effect. Very interesting design for a weapon.

The way it works is that the beam is centered on a target, then the leftover energy is then "jumping" to nearby ships. It is effective to the eternal fleet because of the grid formation, I mean the iokathian scientist made it to combat the eternal fleet. It doesn't fire secondary beams from itself to destroy other ships, it is all coming from the large beam in the middle. Think of it like electricity that wants to take the path of least resistance but instead it is drawn to power, so when a ship is destroyed it jumps to the next ship within a certain range for more power.

That happened to a few races in Star Wars Legends when "The Old Ones" roamed the galaxy spreading terror, death, and chaos. These beings were so powerful that advanced races like, The Iokathians and Rakata (to a degree), harvested their own essences (brainwaves/souls) into supercomputer bunkers beneath their worlds. Most would have a timer for the guardians of their essences to free them after The Old Ones had passed and finished ravaging their worlds but after who knows how long, most AI had forgotten to do so or were deliberately not setting them free for personal reasons or stubborn programming to keep them safe. I got all of this information from the unpublished novella called Star Wars Supernatural Encounters. The book is literally an exposition dumb along with how some dude in the background of the Yavin 4 travelling across the galaxy (and dimensions) to exposes the ignorance and pride of his era's historical records. It's a thicc and deep lore read but I figure if you like ancient advanced races and the weird/mysteries of the Star Wars (Legends) Universe then you'll love it...

Looks like the Gravestone's superweapon fires a single beam, and when it hits an Eternal Fleet vessel it somehow channels from that ship to another, and another, and another. Made all the easier since the Eternal Fleet flies in grid formations.

I think it uses those ships own power-sources against them. Basically it fires then anything electrical it comes in contact with it overloads and then because the Enternal Fleet is obviously linked with each other the weapon is able to piggy back kinda like the energy being from the movie virus and thus hits the next ship overloading its systems and continues to do so so long as the link between the nearby ships is strong enough.. It probably is only a weapon designed for the ships its likely to face and so its unknown how effective it would be against manned ships. Likely could one shot a couple but likely lose its effectiveness as tactics are refined to avoid that powerful beam weapon. It obviously could hit a world So i would imagine it could significantly damage or destroy a worlds civilization with a blast but probably wouldn't destroy said world.

I suspect the main beam on hitting a target just arcs to other nearby objects, Arcing more than once in a chain extending out from the initial target (x number of arcs outward).

Minor correction to the lore here, as I've not seen anyone else mention it. Koth only betrays the Outlander if you do the Dark Side story events in Fallen Empire. Otherwise he's just assigned to patrol the outskirts and will still come to help at Voss. Other than that, I always knew that the Gravestone was tiny...but it's just slightly bigger than the Arquitens? Welp...just goes to show that Super Weapons don't need to be massive in size.

3:20 Seems like it's a hella energy converter. Converts energy from the shield (which takes energy from incoming fire) and converts it into a particle beam that overloads enemy shields/energy systems to the point of destruction. See how it's branching off from the shield bubble as it hits the Gemini ships? Probably Kyber crystal powered...

I think when the weapon fires fully it fires out more energy than the original target could take and so it spider webs out

Imagine if the gravestone wasnt destroyed ,and was found again in the new republic era ,by a random person ,maybe with a Gemini droid who didnt want organics to die or with a holorecording made by koth (maybe he is in stasis of some kind on the bridge which is sealed) explaining everything. It would be so cool

If the main weapon is a function of a modified shield, then it would be plausible for the weapon to create a feedback loop in enemy ships and imploding the shield. Thereby directing it's energy inward and destroying the ship. The ships that are targeted around the main target could be eliminated with a similar feedback that arks form the main target

It would seem the ship generates a single plasma burst which then hits several craft as it reacts with a ships shields. The shields on targeted ships is turned into a plasma storm, attacking the ships encased within it, but also retracting onto other nearby shielded craft, repeating the storm. Essentially, a ball lightening generator unleashing controlled plasma energy, which becomes uncontrolled.

This ship is a bit odd, it has a lot of power but no true staying power. With out a support fleet, and defense fighters. Other than that this is truly a pretty cool ship.

It’s like the Deathstar, in that multiple smaller lasers join together to form 1 large laser. You mentioned lightning and it IS like chain-lightning, in that it jumps to nearby ships after it strikes the first ship. Combining weaker lasers by shooting them into a pure diamond or hyperdiamond will form 1 large laser whose power is a combination of the smaller lasers; smaller plasma beams may combine when fired into each other to cancel out their momentum, with the central beam giving new momentum. If the laser beam is incredibly powerful and passes straight through the first ship, it might be magnetically attracted to other nearby ships, but I’m not sure how a laser beam would split back apart. As for plasma splitting back apart, the only thing I can think of would be the magnetic fields holding said plasma beam together being attracted to the closest magnetic targets; but the initial beam would have to be unimaginably powerful to get through the first ship and still have ship-destroying power and I have no idea how it could diverge by as much as we see.

I dont think it is generating the additional strikes from itself own shield. but somehow converts the shield power of the ship it hits into a reflector that cascades hits from it outwards. Think of it like lightning that goes from positively to negatively charged points, the ship charges it;s own shield an blast to being the opposite charge of the main target, then the primary hit does damage but also changes the charge of the target ship's shield to the same as the gravestone's causing a cascading effect as the beam/attack bounces thru the ships close enough to ships hit.

One of my theories of how the cannon works is actually kinda far fetched but plausible. Considering it uses its shield as a weapon, and it surely looks like it has the ability to create a chain reaction, my theory is that the omni beam uses the energy from one ship to “refuel” itself then target the next closest vessel, similar to how Starkiller targeted multiple planets at once. This tike however it is highly scaled down. A thing about the lightning, I don’t think it is lightning but something along the lines of a solar flare, which can do similar things like create heat and plasma. The last thing about the weapon is that there seems to be a large orb of energy thats sets it off, making it fire right before the omni beam is fired, meaning that there might be a loading mechanism to this weapon.

Looks like the weapon causes discharge across shield system, so shielded ships arc to one another, making it uniquely suited to attacking the tight grid formation of the Eternal Empire

Perhaps this craft uses its shield as a weapon that is capable of massively overloading the shields of ships while also chaining ships with active shields together. The overloaded shield generator then acts as a bomb within the ship, crippling or destroying it, and any other ships nearby
