In this video, I discuss the novel "The Living Force" by John Jackson Miller, the standalone novel featuring the Jedi Council, Obi-Wan, and Qui-Gon in the prequel era. Enjoy!

The small-scale chapters in the middle where the Jedi were simply helping the people on Kwenn gave me a cozy vibe, honestly preferred those chapters to Depa's story. Great review

I'm reading it now and think it's good but has a slow start, I'm hoping the Kwenn stuff pulls me in more. It's frustrating that Living Force and Glass Abyss are the only novels outside of High Republic for this year and looking at how both tell stories not really exploring anything earth shattering the reason becomes clear: the visual media is filling up the timeline more and more, and they don't want to write those shows into a corner. Thus, you've got Inquisitor Rise of the Red Blade telling the story about a character who's fate is already known or Living Force is about vacation away from the main galaxy. And I miss stories like Dooku Jedi Lost or the Battlefront games that told bigger scale stories. They need to leave the Skywalker saga soon so that the books and comics can come back into 6 movie period in a meaningful way. Personally I think DOTJ movie is the project that will break out star wars from the old timeline and get things back in track again.

I just loved getting you spend time with TPM Council and getting to know these characters better. I firmly feel that I know every single one of them and watching prequel content will probably be changed drastically because of this book. This is also on ironically, the funniest Star Wars book I’ve ever read. With Yareal Poof leading the way on that. It’s also affirmed that Qui-Gon is my favorite Jedi of all time.

I would agree there are too many POVs and this would’ve been a great series if we weren’t already in the midst of THR. I’m also a little burned out on the prequel era stuff we seem to be getting a lot lately and I would love some stuff either during the OT era or even post ROTJ but that’s just me. I’m sure part of the influx of prequel era books are because of the anniversaries of the movies coming up

So, a question that kinda ties into what I was commenting earlier, but what do you think is the new frontier for Star Wars? We of course have the Rey movie, Mandalorian movie, and the Thrawn movie. Then we've got Acolyte and Andor S2 but nothing I've mentioned seems to feel like the next breakout for star wars. Andor is ending; Acolyte is telling us about the end of the High Republic versus the beginning; the Rey movie is a continuation of the sequels and the announcement of just one movie in that era suggests to me that they're still planning that era out; Bad Batch is ending and while another show is probably planned afterwards, the timeline between TCW and Rebels is closing, and soon the timeline there will be filled; I 100% expect a Ninth Jedi or some Visions show announced next year at Celebration Japan, but Visions just won't have the global grasp as the movies; and the Mandoverse has become a conclusion of the animated shows and bridge to the sequels, so I just have the feeling that the Mandoverse is rapidly reaching its conclusion in the next two movies and Ahsoka S2. Personally, I think DOTJ if done right is the future of the brand. They've seeding the groundwork for this for awhile in TCW, Rebels, Andor, TLJ, and Ahsoka (Peridea, Bendu, Mortis, Rakatan invasion, Ahch-To). Plus, the tie in material could be absolutely nuts, unlike anything we've seen since the Journey To tie ins for the sequels: novels, guidebooks, comics, maybe even an animated series or LA show. Even if the movie is just decent, the sheer explosion of new content on all sides of media could bring Star Wars from its slump.

For me, the future seems multi-fasceted. The key in my mind is old republic, as it has the most potential for story. Of the announced things, I think the Mandoverse will be received the best, so it has potential for the future, and I feel that Andor Season 2 will reignite the fanbase. From a creatives perspective, I think that Brad Rau and Jennifer Corbett deserve the opportunity to showrun an animated show by themselves (without Filoni) to prove themselves as creatives. I’ll take whatever books we get, from whatever era we get.

@jonathankoan I think if Andor S2 is the beginning of more shows like it, in tone and quality, then I do agree that it can reignite the franchise. Looking at it just as is, I think it's going to be the end of the road for a lot of people who stayed with the brand only to see more Andor. #Andorverse While I think Old Republic would be cool, I don't want a repeat of the EU. EU had some individual masterpieces in the Old Republic era, but the timeline of events was messy: you had the Sith looking prequel style in KOTOR and SWTOR but the galaxy then looks like the middle ages in TOTJ and the Bane Comics. Also there's so many Jedi Schisms that eventually lead into the birth of the Sith. Eventually the EU worked out the timeline but I don't think Disney star wars can afford anymore hiccups. Better to start at the beginning in DOTJ and then work down towards Old Republic. I just want High Republic to be done, so time, talent, and budget can be reallocated towards more books in different eras. Like where is more Clone Wars novels or Rebellion era novels?

There is no next breakout for SW lol. The franchise is in the worst spot it's ever been and only looks to be going down harder in the coming years

I really hope JJM continues to write star wars for awhile, because he's an author that can do so much with so little. Like he can write an S tier book based on some background character if told to do so. What books would you like to see him write? I think he could write some amazing Andor and Bad Batch tie ins, like a Hemlock origin story.

@malachiphoniex8501
@malachiphoniex8501 Ай бұрын
@randywilliams5628 I would love to see why he was dismissed initially by the Republic: while pretty bad in Bad Batch, I think the intended audience dumbed down how bad the eugenic experiments would be in reality and a book could explore the darker aspects. Plus, I would love to see how and who Hemlock interacted with, like Dr. Sionver Boll (who was intially tasked with cloning the Zillo Beast) and Dr. Cylo. Speaking of Cylo, was Hemlock one of the scientists alongside Cylo that helped rebuild Vader?

@@malachiphoniex8501 rebuild Vader? You mean AFTER RotJ?
@malachiphoniex8501
@malachiphoniex8501 Ай бұрын
@randywilliams5628 No, so in the 2015 Vader comic, Palpatine tells Vader about the night he was rebuilt as a cyborg during ROTS. He says he called upon the greatest and darkest scientific minds he could find to save Vader's/Anakin's life, Cylo being the chief scientist. However, Cylo wasn't the only scientist working on Vader and Hemlock could've easily been there as well. You could have a book like Thrawn, Inquisitor, or Catalyst that spans years, starting maybe right before Geonosis and ends right after ROTS.

I don’t think so. I tried to review everything fairly. Certain things may work for original fiction that won’t work in tie-in, and vice versa.

Please tell me Bail Organa is in this one, so tired of Star Wars evading to touch Alderaan in general, there's so much potential in a story about Alderaan during The High Republic or before TPM but all we get is a mention of a random Alderaanian singer 😩
