I love Theory’s passion for Star Wars but he clearly did not go to see Dune Part 2 with an open mind. And it’s clear when he said wasn’t everything over when the Emperor kissed Paul’s ring… c’mon man, just admit that you weren’t paying attention and probably only focused on things to downplay or criticize

It’s actually insane how ignorant theory is, you don’t have to necessarily read the books to understand that a holy war is coming. You also need to realize as a Star Wars fan. A lot of the story beats George Lucas took our directly from Frank Herbert Dune. That doesn’t mean that Star Wars, necessarily copied Dune, because a lot of the politicalideas of Dune were based off of religious ideas, while the politics of Star Wars said by George Lucas focus on more like the Vietnam war and the Afghan war

I've slowly been losing interest in Star Wars and the MCU over the last few years post-covid, 2023 was a real reason for that, and Dune just so happened to start releasing in those same years. Never thought I'd have a new favorite franchise over Star Wars and Marvel but Dune gotta be my favorite, even before part two came out but part two cemented it.

A book to film adaptation that Star Wars was heavily inspired by, with the perfect cast, a political, philosophical, religious story which GOT was also heavily inspired by and it wasn’t something SWT/Mauler couldn’t get into. Alllrighty then 😂

Correct, it is nowhere near Two Towers or Empire - it is way beyond them. Seriously, it is a far greater achievement. Of course there are similarities to Star Wars - Dune is a key inspiration that Lucas lifted whole cloth.

I've been a SW fan since I was a child, but c'mon if you don't realize how Dune is far superior to SW in every aspect well you are making SW projects a disservice. After watching Dune it's really hard not to feel Star Wars like those old campy saturday morning action and adventure cartoons. Disney has to Andorize all upcoming Star Wars if they want to stay relevant.

what I thought was a great separation between anakin and paul’s arc was that paul was fully aware of how awful and terrible the things he’s doing and will do are and tried to resist it until giving in towards the end. Anakin just wanted to save his wife. Paul’s arc isn’t done yet and we’ll probably see the terrible consequences of his holy war in the sequel and maybe have him perhaps regret his decision a little bit. Anakin kinda fully embraced that he’s evil now for decades and paul knew from the start that what he was gonna do is wrong. He already knew he was gonna lose chani once he decided to go south.

Completely understand theory’s perspective here . I love dune I’ve read all the books multiple times . It’s not Star Wars it’s not as accessible as Star Wars let’s just get that out of the way , and as much as I love the series I understand that it’s not for everyone and that’s ok .

A movie in 2024 that doesn’t have the sole intention of pushing political agenda to children, where half of the crew and actors aren’t diversity hires/choices, that has an actually good story, cinematography, soundtrack and acting? Sounded like a dream to me after all of the woke Disney trash lately.

They’re both great stories and different and similar in their own ways! I grew up watching Revenge of the Sith twice a day as a kid. Now I’ve been seeing Dune everyday! It’s great to see some new Sci-Fi movies with old source material adapted. Long live Dune and Star Wars!!!

I’m like you guys; I was seven in the the theatre watching Ep IV. I’m a lifelong SW fan…..then I saw Dune ‘84 and like everyone at the time, I immediately forgot about it. I was obsessed with SW in my teens, got into girls, then The Prequels came out, got obsessed again……then I was finally ready to read Dune after the cheesy 2000 miniseries. I was finally old enough to get it. I pushed through the first third of the book, basically learning a new language along with the incredibly deep, dense and allegorical Duniverse. I finally understood why it had withstood the test of time. I’ve read the Frank Herbert saga and have been low key obsessed with it for years. It never replaced SW in my heart, mostly because it had never had a proper, serious, quality film adaptation. I went to see Blade Runner 2049 and was mesmerized by it, truly. I had all but written SW off by then. I then read that Denis Villenueve, director of Blade Runner 2049 was adapting Dune….guys, I’m not kidding, I had the same reaction many people had when they saw The Force Awakens trailer. I became obsessed with the casting, the screenplay, checked Quinn’s Ideas channel regularly for updates. When the cast was announced I knew it would be a masterpiece. Here we are, nearly eight years after the announcement of the Dune adaptation and now the world knows this highly influential story. We all know and acknowledge the obvious: no Dune, no Star Wars. It’s not “owning” Star Wars or replacing it , Star Wars is dead as a brand. But now a major source of inspiration for SW is in the culture, no longer relegated to Uber nerd seclusion. People now know how incredible this saga is and yeah, it will never be for everyone but guys, in time, just like what happened with Empire Strikes Back, Dune Part II will be acknowledged as one of the greatest sci fi movies of all time. I was there when Empire came out and yeah, I loved it but not everyone did. It was a bummer compared to Ep IV which wasn’t even called that at the time. As time went on, people recognized it for the seminal movie it was. The same will happen with Dune Part II and I don’t even think it will take very long either. Is it overhyped? Consider this: SW redefined not only sci-fi and the visual language of sci-fi. It redefined movies in general. Everything after SW took its queue from SW. Dune just did the same thing. Nothing we’ve seen before looks or feels like it. It’s been a month since seeing and I can’t stop ruminating on it, and c’mon, Paul Atreides’ address to the Fremen in the Cave of Birds is operatic. Embrace the hype because the movie is equal to the hype.

Both Dune movies are really AWESOME! Dune part 2 in particular is proof that Star Wars, as a franchise, is dead. We now know that movies like the OG SW Trilogy really could be made today without all the political nonsense or cartoon like cgi. I'd suggest to Theory to read the Dune books and rewatch the films. I'd really like him to start a "Dune Theory" channel.

I very much liked dune 1. It took its time but it was telling a story in a very developped way. And the second one is accelarating everything like ok tyzre's action but what about character developpement ? Te guy who seeks revenge ? Don't give a damn lile there's too many storylines in the movie and I felt like thy were making actionq scenes only to keep people in theatre. Tho visually i was smashed directly in the eyes, it was amazingly directed. But I felt it would've needed to be cut in two parts.

I never thought I’d say this because I although I respect his opinion I almost never agree with Ryan , but I think he’s spot on here . As a straight adaptation of the source material it is disappointing as movies I think both work extremely well , I think once I realized this wasn’t going to be Frank Herbert’s Dune and more Denis Villeneuve’s dune I enjoyed the movie’s a lot more for what they were as opposed to what they aren’t.

As a SW fan, I'm happy to admit Dune was a huge influence on Star Wars: desolate sand planet, the Jedi and the Force are very obviously based on the Bene Gesserit and the Voice, and there are more. Still, SW is very far from being some kind of Dune ripoff. 1. As many as the common elements are, they're still a small part of the whole universe. 2. These similarities kinda run out as soon as you go beyond what was introduced in A New Hope. 3. The story is not that similar, and the feel is not similar at all. Dune is more mature, SW is more operatic and deals much more explicitly with good vs. evil. And as good as the new Dune movies might be, they still don't even attempt to fix the major problem with recent movies in general -- we just don't get top quality genuinely new stuff these days. Dune is based on a famous book, LOTR is based on a famous book, the new SW stuff is bad and a sad copy of the older SW stuff, etc. People seem to have run out of new ideas.
