Modders getting paid: 👎 Modding is a collaborative effort, not a competitive one for the sake of profit THE MOMENT you introduce money, you destroy what modding is
@Ibunshi
@Ibunshi 22 күн бұрын
@@randomthings1293It's still collaborative effort, the exact same thing that has always been around, is still around.. Literally nothing has been taken away. The fact that creators now have an OPTION to potentially do MORE modding because people have an OPTION to help FUND what they do - is absurd to attempt to frame "destroying modding" People who are so self-entitled that they can't see any kind of reason whatsoever to actually support mod creators, are not exactly the best kind of person to dump on this. You know how some modders sometimes just disappears from the scene and may not be back for years, because they have other things they HAVE to do instead of slaving for ungrateful, self-entitled gamers? Well, when enough people support their work, then maybe they do not HAVE to stop modding.. And as always, the payed stuff is usually available for free in one form or another sooner or later anyway - and sometimes better, because people have had more time to work on it. I'm not egen sure how to put myself in the mindset of a person who wants things for free, speak as if they care about the community - but become all toxic when there's a completely voluntary option to actually support hard working members of that community, in ways that goes beyond empty words.
@Powderlover1
@Powderlover1 19 күн бұрын
@@randomthings1293I disagree. The reason mods are free are not because the mod devs hate money, it’s because of copyrights. If modding was something that devs could make money from, the mod quality would be incredible. Being able to fund dev teams for DLC level mods would create some amazing additions to eh games.
@randomthings1293

@@Powderlover1 "Tell me you never modded a game in your life without telling me that you've never modded a game in your life" You: (Mod quality is already incredible, a quick look at the nexus will tell you that immediately. And why is that? it's because everyone's work is built upon the collective work of thousands of other people. Restricting access to mods through paywalls will limit the number of people who use mods, thus limiting the number of people who create mods, thus limiting the amount of creativity and resources available for modding. Also, mod authors would inevitably sell faulty products, since they would never be able to guarantee that their mod does not break some other mods, since they can't use those other mods' resources, because they're behind a paywall and their authors are literally competitors. Side note, I've never said that mod devs "hate money", that's a ridicoulous thing to say and it's also totally irrelevant in respect to my argument).
@Powderlover1
@Powderlover1 16 күн бұрын
@@randomthings1293 literally every game I play is modded at this point. Mod devs are often putting out better content than the actual devs. That’s why I want them to be rewarded for their work. You not being able to afford the mods you enjoy, does not mean those developers (who put blood, sweat, tears, and more importantly time and money into their mods) should not be payed for their work. Your points are easily addressable: 1. I don’t see it limiting it much, free mods will absolutely still exist, but a $.50 buy button next to a mod on workshop (or nexus for ya) is an option the people who made it should have. 2. The idea that making money will somehow decrease the number of mod devs is patently ridiculous and does not deserve a serious response. Being able to hire devs would result in more large scale projects being successful, think dayZ, or fallout London finally actually releasing. 3. The price of the game is a limiter as well, work costs money, stop expecting free labor. 4. People sell faulty products all the time. Half of the AAA games released today are released as faulty products; should games all be free because some suck? I’d be all for a refund policy, but that’d be up to the platform and payment system. Also, weird that you went with Nexus rather than workshop. But I’ve actually been modding my games since before the easy tools and mod folders. Also, also you’re supposed to put the “You:” before the quote. Currently your comment is structured as if I’m saying the nonsense about not wanting to pay for things I enjoy.

So there I was, landing on yet another moon. Nothing special going on. Just running a regular ol bounty mission. When everything, I do mean everything was glowing bright orange. So much so that I thought my TV settings had gone crazy. But as I got ready to exit ship in surface 3rd person view, i swung my view to the left. And then I understood why everything was orange. A gas giant, taking up 80% of my TV screen, was rolling across the horizon. If you ever feel like the negatives of the game are overwhelming it, just look up. You’ll see SF greatest feature. The “step out” moments happen all the time in this game. I’ve had my eyebrows pushed up on my forehead dozens of times. But they come and go quick. Why? Because all that stuff in the solar system is rotating, orbiting, and playing with the light from their star. And that shit is bananas man. Oh yeah, paid mods are a poopie. I don't think some people get it, but BGS releasing paid creations = DLC, not developer first paid mods - stop calling it micro transactions or other bullshit cause a microtransaction would be "spend $10 to get 500mn credits in Starfield" or "instant unity now for $3.99". That's it. Stop getting angry at BGS for releasing things on their own creation club. Also, honestly, since most mods on Nexus are also getting released on Creation Club, I'm just using it as a mod manager at this point. Yea, some mods are a bit expensive, but honestly, those are few and far between.

The issue is scale. $7 is just way too much for a mission or $10 for a module for your ship... Maybe at 10% the price it might be a rounding error to people, when you're competing with FREE mods. BGS games in my mind are best described as adventure, simulation sandboxes with RPG elements layered on top. What we're seeing is more and more of the RPG, tailored content being removed in favor of the sandbox getting tools and telling the community "just imagine what you guys and gals can build here!" While I do like being able to mod these games and add to them, when the base game is lacking, it still shows, no matter how many mods you add.

I think Bethesda did a great job of creating the scaffolding for a game that could last years. I think it’s difficult to talk about them building a game like that for fear that people will have a knee-jerk reaction and think the game will be empty. And it was. Everything would have been mitigated had Bethesda been a more nimble company or utilized more studios. The game came out way too early at the same time that it had been delayed over a year. I don’t have a problem with independent devs getting paid. Maybe it will lead to fewer mods like StarUI where the dev makes a great mod and then goes awol because they can’t devote enough of their own time into it with no return.

What are people complaining about? Just like Skyrim, there's paid mods from Bethesda and other top tier modders, or there are free mods. Literally no news. As far as the new faction having paid content, like any added content, you don't have to buy it. Which then pivots to the argument "it should just be included". Why? It wasn't free to create. A dev was paid to make the weapons, characters, code it, voice act, make it essentially something that can be easily added. All of which is time and money. That being said, even the critique of the game and systems are inaccurate. The ship scrapping is where you have to pay to get your ship licensed in order to use it. Then you can do what you want with it. The 1000 credit old world boat themed hab, is both the fully furnished hab, the empty hab, and all of the items therein which can be used on any ship or in any on world hab too. So you're paying 1000 for a curated hab, an empty hab, and a ton of items to use as you see fit.

The price points on these paid mods are clearly wrong. BGS has several of these overpriced. The Vulture should have been no more than half of its current cost. $3.00 for plushies for your ship and $10 for a single ship mod with a few ornamental additions are also overpriced. However, criticizing a business for selling, rather than giving away, seems to miss the point of actually operating a business. The reality is that, if BGS is smart, it will experiment with its price points until it finds the sweet spot - that spot where the price is not turning off people willing to pay for content.

Bethesda has been doing this since Oblivion. They have always been trying to push the envelope for monetization, and the reality is we should have seen this coming with Skyrim and FO4.

So instead of making a good game they decided to monetize the people that are tying to fix their games? Seems about right from the "Horse Armor Bethesda"

I think the faction that steal, and scrape the serial numbers of the ships is plausible! It’s like they have the knowledge to do the work themselves, whereas we don’t, and have to take ships to a port, and pay to have the serial numbers wiped. Bit like owning a car, and having to take it to a garage for work, those garage workers aren’t charging themselves that much for their own work.

When it comes to mods i can't think of many games outside the Elder Scrolls and Fallout games that have a list of mods as long, with that said can we stop acting like paid mods havnet been a thing for a long ass time. There have been for a long time mods locked behind something like a patreon or people own sites using paypal, people are only upset because a company is involved. I dislike the paid mods crap, but i'm kinda numb to it since Starfield won't suddenly get better because of them.

I agree, insulting our intelligence by not just calling a spade a spade gets under my skin a little. I'm personally ok with CC content between major story expansions if they manage the balancing act between pricing, quality, etc. I just wish they didn't make every case for these sort of things like shady used car salesmen instead of earning our trust by being consistently up front and honest. Or is the latter just such a foreign concept in the corporate sector it's just not possible, lol

Why 7$? Why not 1$, and let the quantity of sales balance the pricing? Force a 1$ minimum, and then price the packages by file size to off-set the cost of infrastucture and service costs.
@brucepreston3927
@brucepreston3927 22 күн бұрын
Probably because they would never sell 7 times as many even if they lowered the price to $1...It's easier for them to milk the whales than to sell 7 times as many...Plus they would be paying 7 times the amount in transaction fees.

Crazy this already happen since nexus skyrim exist i guess, but not the paid mods, they're too late on implementing that into skyrim/fallout4 and all the good mods already released on nexus so its not that popular.

Creation club is trying to borrow community goodwill by allowing modders to post and sell their mods, you would be really dumb to think BGS is not trying to take advantage of peoples work for their own profit. Also, BGS mods will always be on-top, meaning, instead of fixing their own game, they are selling you those fixes... Lack of content? Here`s a new questline for $7, tired of your ships? Here`s a new ship module set for $10, Oh companions are boring? Here`s a new Companion for $15...

It really says a lot when Larian encourages their fan base and has garnered a loyal following, that the fan base would make a game for them back. With this attitude, Larian will live on for a long time. These will be loyal customers. At least someone is doing it differently than what's here

The issue isn’t that people are mad they were ‘chopping up a faction’, it’s that they are charging for their own creations at all. The game launched broken, lacking features, empty, and in general fairly boring. It was a full price game, least they can do is add a quest line and more ship options to fill the game out before Shattered Space. You know, instead of taking 6 months to add maps and config sliders whilst shovelling the actual new content into a micro transaction. Paid community mods are a different issue, and I don’t actually have an issue with it. It’s the creators choice to charge for it, and they’re more likely to get consistent revenue from an in game system than patreon and donations. BGS need to be transparent on the various cuts. If BGS are getting more than 30-40% they should be ashamed, that’s steams hosting and monopoly cost, and an extra 10 for making money off BGS IP. Any more than that, they’re not ‘supporting’ modders, they’re leeching off them. I hate the way Todd spins the question to be about the way they’re parcelling the quest mod, and not that they’re charging for it in the first place.

I dont think the creation club is a microtransaction a youtube described it nore like a service Also you people do realize you arbt force to download anything you dont have to download anything to play starfield also as Sista Citizen said (the youtuber) if Bethesda is profitting from community made mods the modder is still likely getting 80 or 90 percent of the money Bethesda Starfield is bot greedy bow starfield is my first Bethesda game so dont hate on me this was justbmy thoughts on this never played any other games by them so dont really know how bad their other games got it
