Woolsey always struck me as a good character. Believed in the oversight role. Was earnest about making sure procedure was followed, because he honestly thought it would deliver the best results. He understood the stakes both abroad and at home for having such an impactful clandestine operation. Mentally tough, but knew he wasn't a "tough guy", and didn't need to be. Embraced the adversarial role of his job, but wasn't obsessed with being the adversary. He also knew when he was being (ab)used by his superiors and was willing to take personal risks in his oversight, and later support, roles. If you were to ask him "who watches the watchers", he'd say "me". Ask him who watches him, he'd say "you".

You'd be surprised how often people make lengthy reports just because they think they "need to be long". And now with AI/ChatGPT I've literally seen people feeding LLM with a bunch of bullet points to be "expanded" into a long report, and then the other person feeding this into LLM to get a "distilled" summary. Essentially the only real content are those few bullet points, but they have to push this through two LLMs because they can't admit that few bullet points are enough for a report. Crazy world.

Had to look up "Midway" to realize it was an episode he did for Atlantis. I need to re-watch SG-1 and Atlantis. Judge is now doing a lot more video game voice work these days like God of War. Interestingly enough, he's always done some amount of voice work throughout his career even during his SG-1 days.

If anything, they actually promoted her to Major later than most. She was a Captain during Desert Storm (1991). If the timeline followed real time, she made Major in 2000. Most Air Force Officers make Major between 8-10 years time in service and 4-6 years time in grade. She pinned Major during Season 3 (2000), about 2 years after most USAF Officers, especially pilots would have, Lieutenant Colonel during Season 8 (2005), which would be about right for a Below the Zone promotion, and Colonel before Season 4 of Atlantis (2010), another BZ promotion. If there were to be a follow on series, she would likely be either a 4-star or the Secretary of Defense. The Lieutenants from Proving Ground (that survived) would all be COLONELS now.

@@davidhfranz You have a good point there. However, at least starting from the begining of SG-1 she was promoted more like a higher than average officer would be. As for the "Priving Ground" episode, I think SG-1 and Battlestar Galactica missed an epic crossover opportunity with Grace Park's LT Satterfield in that episode. :p

@@davidhfranz davidhfranz, you were in the USAF? Would you say most USAF female officers wear pants in the office uniform? I was surprised they had her go with the skirt. I rarely ran into female officers because I was on submarines and women weren't on submarine crews until 2008 and I got out in 2003, though I always thought females on submarines was a good idea. I feel like Colonel Carter would be wearing pants. Also as a Navy guy the rank system of other branches is often confusing! I see that symbol and I think "Captain", which is O-6 in the Navy. But then you guys must think it is confusing that E-4 though E-6 in Navy is addressed as "Petty Officer"! Technically it's "3rd Class Petty Officer", "2nd Class Petty Officer", "1st Class Petty Officer", but you would normally address them as "petty officer [their last name]" or just their last name, unless you're E-7+ or an officer, and are super mad at them, lmao! I was an E-4 when I got out, STS3(SS) = "Sonar Technician Submarines 3rd Class (Qualified in Submarines)". 🙂

I have to admit that Tapping was my least favorite of the three.

By the time this rolled around, she wanted to move on and do Sanctuary, but the studio felt they needed her star power on Atlantis in order to help ratings out.

To be fair to Tapping though, they kind of dumbed down Carter for Atlantis because McKay filled her position on the show, so there was a few times Carter had to have the "What does that mean?" lines where you then get a layman's explanation for the audience through dialogue, it worked with Weir because she was a diplomat, not a scientist or engineer but Carter is both as well as someone experienced in tactics and combat, so her asking McKay or Shepperd for an explanation just seemed weird so maybe she felt it wasn't the best thing for her character too.

Not surprised because it is after all a very long way to travel for a job. 🤭

If you pretend in your head Carter is just nervous about this being her first truly big command and thats why she seems so different from the regular carter is almost imperceptible.

Plus Woolsey had much more experience dealing with the political side of being the boss. I know they ended up giving her command of the Hammond, but Sam's greatest asset was her scientific genius, not her command skills.

@@andyh4518 The Atlantis job had become somewhat political and had a rather large community towards the end, it was a good fit for a Woolsey politically savy character type to manage, one who knows different ways to deal with allies and non allied factions on a political level, with the backing of military and scientific and specialist advisors. Woolsey's kob was to play the cards they had as best he could, adding his own to the mix when needed.

always thought when Jack left, that Sam shouldve been bumped up to team leader. I liked Cam but it felt weird having the new guy just appear and start being the boss.

IDC wouldn't work when using the gate bridge. They must upload an "IDC" into the gates buffer when they dial so it transmits between gates. So when it finally connect's to Atlantis the buffer sends the signal automatically so they lower the shield

I always just assumed they were going into storage. It was her green SG1 tactical fatigues. Atlantis tactical fatigues are black (like Sheppard's).

Because the the writers couldn't let the free jaffa just take a W. The jaffa viewed everyone as oppressors (stupidest writing in the show IMO) and had internal conflicts that iirc never got fucking settled. That's the whole reason tealc is on sg1 for ark of truth. And the arrogant ass tokra got destroyed

@@razorcloud1 I havent watched it but it seems to be much cheaper than Stargate SG1. I dont mind if shows look cheap as long as it has a lot of charm like Doctor Who.

SG1 was designed to look like a military installation refitted to be a interstellar portal room. It’s bare minimum look was the ideal design.
