I like the touch of detail when the guard that Daniel ran infront of pointed his gun down when Daniel flagged himself.

Who wouldn’t be glad to serve under a C.O. like Hammond, a gentleman whose _granddaughters_ are #1 on his speed-dial, _above_ his commander-in-chief? 😊

I grew up with that show. I really loved the sense of warmth, kindness and humor the show's writers and actors portrayed in scenes like this. I think I read somewhere that the actor who portrayed General Hammond sadly passed away. I also did like Stargate: Universe. It did suffer a bit from inconsistent writing, but I think it was salvageable as it definitely did have some great memorable moments and depth

The actor who played Hammond, Don S. Davis, passed exactly a month before the release of the 2nd SG1 movie (of which was his last SG role). He had heart disease that caused a massive heart attack that wasn't recoverable. The SG1 series dedicated an episode to him at the time of his passing, and had his character die of the same condition off screen. They later paid homage to his character by introducing the U.S.S. George Hammond. It was actually a really amazing handling of an actor's passing. As for Universe: I completely agree. It was unfortunate a tragedy of writing exhaustion at the time mixed with a need to change direction. The scene writing and scripting tried too hard to mirror Battlestar Galactica--which was the big hotness at the same time on SciFi. Looking back at the timing of everything, they could have just waited a year before introducing Universe and given Atlantis another year. They'd likely have transitioned into Universe FAR better and much of the dead episodes they had in season 1 would have been better received or rewritten smarter.

@@Spineraker4 well said! I was and am a fan of of 2007 BSG series. Certainly, it had a better story arch and SG Universe did have those dead episodes which didn't seem to fit into the overall story. However, even those episodes showed promise in large part to the actors. I did like that most of the character were complex and multifaceted especially the colonel (I think that was his rank). The same actor later guest starred on S.W.A.T. where he also portrayed a complex character. Of course, he was just a guest there. Sadly, a lot of good shows tend to canceled too early. The 2018 spy drama "Pine Gap" is another example of this.

SG-1 did an admirable job of not overtly sexualising the female leads as was rampant during that era (n.b. TNG yoga). Yet despite that commendable mindset, sometimes I think they went too far in trying to hide her femininity. For example, off-base she'd often be wearing unflattering frumpy clothes, while Teal'c would be in a tank top of bulging muscles. Her hair feels much more natural in this scene. With all that said, I'm glad they went too conservative instead of giving her the Seven of Nine treatment. Similarly I think they did a fantastic job with Janet Fraiser, the actor is stunning but she was never sexualised. Unfortunately guest actors seemed to exist under a different philosophy and some of it was uncomfortably gratuitous. Anise's outfit and the dialogue sexualising her (a top Tok'ra scientist) was pretty gross.

Even before the alpha-site, they should have had an address to use in the case of problems. Get separated, lose/damage your IDC, can't dial Earth, then go to this safe planet and we will dial it once a day checking for survivors.

Diplomatically I think it is bad enough as it is. Thor arrives and has a dozen guns pointed at him. Any time SG-1 arrives on another planet if they are greeted by weapons, it is presented as unjustified aggression despite the fact they always arrive themselves armed to the teeth. SG-1 was irked that when trying to walk heavily armed into the Tollan's highest court that their weapons were disabled. Imagine the response if the Tollan visited Earth with similar gear and tried to walk into the US supreme court.
