Remember when Courtney was little and had the Christmas gift for her Dad, but he didn't show. She found out Starman died the same night, her Dad didn't show, leading to last season confusion. Therefore the flashback was just before big battle.

Good episode. I’m very intrigued by The Shade since he doesn’t seem to be the straight up villain that i initially thought he would be ( he became kind of an anti-hero in James Robinson’s Starman run so it seems like they are taking inspiration from that). I’m also really enjoying Jonathan Cake’s performance as Richard Swift/ The Shade…he’s got the right mix of charm , smarminess and menace imo. I enjoyed the Mike stuff and the trickster-genie in Thunderbolt aswell…Mike recognizing that he’s not worthy to be a hero yet was sad and the pen going to his friend Jakeem will probably make him feel more insecure which can be something that Cindy exploits as she assembles her ISA

James Robinson actually works on the show. He wrote the second episode of this season and a couple last season and he's credited as co-executive producer for a number of episodes, this one included.

Anyone else remember when the Shade was a one-off villain-of-the-week on The Flash? The Arrowverse really did rapidly burn through so many villains.

@@lombax316 flash used so many villains in the first 2 seasons that now they need to make minor characters into big bads. Thankfully Superman and Lois hasn't even used 1 big villain in the first season, so they have a lot left on the tank

@@gustavoclarindo101 I'd argue Morgan Edge/Tal-Rho/Eradicator was the big bad of season 1. They just didn't detour with filler episodes and kept focus on using the most of the character in service to the overall story.

I think some of the blame of Mike's action should be on Pat as well. Pat was "benched" by the JSA as shown in the opening flashback. Then after Thunderbolt literally tells him Mike feels lonely, he literally leaves him "alone" in the garage "benching" him in the exact same way. If Mike had tagged along, he wouldn't have interrupted and the situation would have went diffferently.

yep and i recall Mike saying that even the paper route job they wanted Mike to do this episode would be better in Jakeem's hands. So when he said he wishes it would be in better hands, it literally ended up in who he thought was better hands and someone who is just as lonely.

Jakeem was from the comics as well the original holder of the pen. “SO COOL” is the comic accurate activation for the pen.

15:30 Seriously? They've mentioned Jakeem dozens of times last season and this season as Mike's friend/fellow paperboy. I bet they didn't even catch they setup the ending when Mike said his new route would be in "better hands" with Jakeem. Even without knowing Jakeem is destined for the Thunderbolt, the buildup of repeatedly name-dropping the same person becomes noticeable.

They even mention Jakeem early in the episode. Mike tells his boss to get Jakeem to do it, he'd be better. So foreshadows the pen going to him.

I don't envy the DC comic's prison architect, let me explain: Need: one cell to hold the Shade. Cell idea 1: Mirrors on all walls, lights 24 / 7. Problem: Mirror Master can access room, help Shade escape. Cell idea 2: Tiny mirror tiles on walls instead, to deny access from Mirror Master. Problem: Lights could fail from attack on power grid. Cell idea 3: Cell has own power plant, and several back up generators to maintain lights forever. Problem: Dr Light can travel through light sources, and help shade escape. Cell Idea 4: Armed guards take shifts to watch Shade, never left alone. Problem: Telepathic Villains, such as, but not limited to Gorilla Grodd, Brainwave, Simon, The Thinker have worked with the Shade. Cell Idea 5: Robotic Sentries will monitor the Shade. Problem: Shadows exist inside machines, could be used by the Shade as means of an escape. Cell idea 6: Robotic Sentries are made of glass, and are internally illuminated. Problem: A common Henchman can break a glass sentry. Cell idea 7: Bullet proof glass sentries.

How are people missing the sound they use for Yolanda's headaches is the same sound of Brainwave's powers? Go back and watch when she killed him. He uses his powers one last time. So he may have placed something in her. I loved the flashback. They do play with the timeline and how old the JSA are. Go back and watch the episode where Beth puts on the glasses. It shows Chuck's bio. Born in 1914. So we would have been in his 90's in 2010. I think Shade is there to prevent Eclipso escaping but I did think what if he means Pat is going to kill these children? Either way he doesn't want the kids to die.

I think The Shade was there to find eclipso and stop him because he knew how dangerous he is, so i have a feeling he is gonna save them from eclipso at least the first time they come in contact with him.

The Shade! So much better than The Flash Season 3. What they did to The Shade was dirty. It was titled after him and he was barley in it. A villain of the week. Also, it was lame how they used his powers. Shadow giant. Oh, wow. Looking forward seeing more of The Shade. Would be pretty cool to see a ISA flashback and the moment The Shade left.

Man, something about Eric in these reactions feels off. He seems so much more nit picky and irritable than he is in most reactions and he was for season 1. It’s a shame as most people seem to be really enjoying this season and I thought he would be enjoying it too but something feels off in these reactions. Aaron seems fine.

He did admit that another successful show in his eyes (Superman & Lois) has made him bias to a certain standard, so he is most likely being extra sensitive over little to no deviation from that standard.

Why is Eric so amazing at pointing out tiny insignificant details that no one knows or cares about but so horrible at forming theories, analysing characters, and remembering important plot points and other things that actually matter. I mean I Iove Eric I cried right along side him during the Star Wars reactions and I love all his nerd references as I’m a nerd myself but these things are just so annoying .

I have PTSD and at least for me i've never had those headache's but i do have those panic attacks. My thoughts is that when she has ptsd attack since they are from brainwave the triggers are much stronger since he was in her actual head

I love watching these guys but I feel like losing Melanie has hurt these reactions as the energy feels off at the moment. It’s weird for such a fun lighthearted show that Eric looks so stone faced and disinterested throughout. Hope these reactions don’t turn out like the Black Lightning reactions and they end them prematurely as this season has been super fun so far.

You’re right about Melanie. She does bring a good energy to the reaction videos. But if Eric looks disinterested, it might mean that he’s just not enjoying this episode. I would rather see his honest feelings than watch him fake his reactions.

Would be pretty epic if Brainwave left some kind of psychic power imprint on Yolanda's mind that is gonna awaken her own milder form of Brainwave's psychic powers like telekinesis and telepathy. Could be a pretty handy power for mainly communication in the JSA.

I feel like Eric is about to go through a walking dead/ the flash vibe. When he like the show in the beginning but now just isn’t really feeling the show but nice discussion though. Way better than the naruto discussions that they give us. Plus they are doing mike wrong. You would think out of everybody. Pat would understand his kid feelings and for them to not look at home when he came back from getting jump is awful parenting

I think the show is setting up Mike to be a full or half demon because he has to be born with powers or icicle, brainwave and shiv wouldn't care about him at all but they do icicle and brainwave were debating on keeping him alive then saying they can't leave a legacy behind and shiv wants him so he probably has a file somewhere and that is where she got the picture from. Also the two big villians of this season is eclipso a evil god or demon and shade which has control of the shadow lands where a ton of demons live and since the shadows touched him it could awaken his demon powers also this could be great forshadowing or just a joke but a few times they called the dog a demon dog which I would love if it was their to protect Mike and the valcano he made with painted horror filled faces on the marshmallow people while they burn and the Jack o lantors he made with tons of tools sticking out and Courtney saying you are a disturbed person and he said thanks could be a nod to his demon side. Also this will be a good parallel to Courtney wanting to be starman duaghter not the terrible one she has, while Mike wants to be a superhero but he has demon parent(s) and that would be crushing to him.

I really wish he would’ve come up with something to restrain him or something, but that he’d escape via the shade. Instead of the dumb zap idea. Also, why have it be a pen if they keep using a whiteboard. And now Mike can’t have it anymore since he wished it away. Plus you have the whole no-repeat wishes thing. Kinda like the staff of one but more vague

Why on earth would you wait until night to confront the guy with shadow control powers? Realistically speaking, I get FX limitations and filming the costumes in broad daylight, but story-wise, that's a really really dumb idea.

So far, the writing of Season 2 is really bad. I actually enjoyed Season 1, especially when the team was being put together. The characters had real goals and purpose in the show. Now the show is relying on corny comedy like Legends does. I think the casting of all the kids is awesome, especially Brec Bassinger. But the writers aren’t giving me a reason to care about any of these characters right now. It’s really disappointing.
