Stargirl was not "not like other girls" she was raised allowed to be whoever she wanted and then the culture of her school and Leo beat it out of her. She assimilated and didn't call herself 'not like other girls' she wanted to fit in. But the school had never seen anyone act how they wanted instead of how they were told. Kids started wearing nail polish at the school because of her...that's how like, scared people in this little town were to stand out. It wasn't that she was sO qUiRky it was just because she had the confidence to do what she wanted. A lot of people read her as an Aspie because she tried so hard to change herself and make herself "likeable" It's about bullying and prejudice and growing up and realizing that it shouldn't matter what people think.

Yeah Stargirl in the book doesn't give a shit what other people think of her. Sadly the girl in the movie is not the same character. She's just a little quirky but is still pretty normal and actually wants the kids at school to like her. It's like they missed the point of who Stargirl was.

Gabe Stein they had to recast diary of a wimpy kid because it all takes place in middle school and the actors were too grown up😂 they shouldn’t have made the newest one but that’s why they did it. We all know the sequels happen around the same time, however, it takes a long time to shoot, wrote a script, get a budget, and so much more so time obviously does go by therefore you can’t really explain why in the sequel the story is only a year after the original took place but the actors aged like 5. (Its just an example)

that’s actually not the reason, it’s because of child labor laws (minors aren’t allowed to work the same hours as adults). it’s disney, though, and a new streaming platform, so they’re probably willing to spend the extra time and money for a more “authentic” show.

False. If everyone is different, there can't be someone who is the same as everyone else, because you can only be the same as one person if everyone is different, but then there is another paradox, because then that person who is the same, is also no longer different and when you say everyone is different than everyone else, that person can't be the same as a single other person. So when everyone is different, everyone is literally different.

Everyone is entirely unique, not in some bullshit way, genuinely. Different cultures have a certain uniform for your gender, race, whatever, which we’re all pressured into wearing but it’s only superficial. The problem with the “different girl” persona is that it starts to become a uniform when the whole point is authenticity, not just copping quarks.

Needs weirder clothes for Stargirl, but other than that, it seems like a good adaptation of the book. I teach English as a foreign language in Japan, and since my high schoolers have an English reading level of elementary school students, I picked this book for us to read. It's elementary reading level, about high school, and has a great message, especially since in Japan individuality is discouraged. They loved it and some kids said it was their favorite book.

Makes you believe in yourself more and at an age when I was getting into fights, being a moody teen, nothing made sense and this book became that magical explanation as to why we can all be whoever the fuck we want to be and it won't stop the world from spinning. It's not that big a deal and at the same time... You owe it to yourself to embrace your uniqueness.

This has always been my favorite book in the world. I read it for the first time 20 years ago and multiple times ever since. It sends out such an incredible message. Ten year old me would be having a heart attack and It's weird to see it play out all modernized. I had a specific image in my head of what this should all look like and I hope it doesn't disappoint. I haven't gone to the movies in years but will definitely watch this opening day!

This was one of the first novels I ever read on my own, not for school. I know the book was released in 2000, but I read it in 2004, when I was 7. I was so obsessed with it, I must’ve read it a million times. I always thought that it would be an amazing movie. It’s crazy to me that now there’s a movie finally coming out, and the actress who plays Stargirl was born the same year I read the book haha ⭐️

The movie is out and whether or not you know the book, it deserves to be seen. Also, it is nothing whatsoever like the trailer. I think the movie is primarily a love story and the backdrop, i.e what goes on in the high school is refreshingly subtle or musically entertaining. I was not prepared for much of it and thats a good thing. Don't think this is riddled with cliches because the relationships between Leo and Stargirl is not predictable or trite. Great performances by all, a great score, and beautifully photographed.

Sadly they made the movie more about the love story and completely changed Stargirl's character. In the book the love story was more in the background while the real story was about this girl who gave no fucks what anyone thought of her and how she affected her peers at school.
