Stargirl was not "not like other girls" she was raised allowed to be whoever she wanted and then the culture of her school and Leo beat it out of her. She assimilated and didn't call herself 'not like other girls' she wanted to fit in. But the school had never seen anyone act how they wanted instead of how they were told. Kids started wearing nail polish at the school because of her...that's how like, scared people in this little town were to stand out. It wasn't that she was sO qUiRky it was just because she had the confidence to do what she wanted. A lot of people read her as an Aspie because she tried so hard to change herself and make herself "likeable" It's about bullying and prejudice and growing up and realizing that it shouldn't matter what people think.

@courtneymichelle57464 жыл бұрын
Gabe Stein they had to recast diary of a wimpy kid because it all takes place in middle school and the actors were too grown up😂 they shouldn’t have made the newest one but that’s why they did it. We all know the sequels happen around the same time, however, it takes a long time to shoot, wrote a script, get a budget, and so much more so time obviously does go by therefore you can’t really explain why in the sequel the story is only a year after the original took place but the actors aged like 5. (Its just an example)
@najb.454 жыл бұрын
Kendall Thomas He still had to play the role in flashbacks and they had to use cgi to make him look younger since no time passed, which just made him look weird
@pisceanry93734 жыл бұрын
that’s actually not the reason, it’s because of child labor laws (minors aren’t allowed to work the same hours as adults). it’s disney, though, and a new streaming platform, so they’re probably willing to spend the extra time and money for a more “authentic” show.

Yeah, I think it's one of the clearest examples of the "Manic Pixie Dream Girl" trope I've ever come across (definition from Wikipedia: MPDGs are usually static characters who have eccentric personality quirks and are unabashedly girlish. They invariably serve as the romantic interest for a most often brooding or depressed male protagonist). I remember reading it as a child and rolling my eyes thinking "this character doesn't sound like a real person at all, she sounds like a cartoon"

Stargirl was one of my favorite books growing up. Another one was Sahara Special and Flipped. I hope Disney doesn't kill Stargirl and make it overtly cheesy as it tends to do with everything else. I hope this movie wont feel like a PG manic pixie dream girl trope either. SG was waaay more than what she wore and how pretty she was; it was her kind acts towards others and what she represented that made the book amazing.
@kenaldri49824 жыл бұрын
In the trailer, Grace's own story doesn't really get told so you have to kind of fill in the blanks. Kind acts towards others? At least they could have maybe had Leo mention that but they didn't.

False. If everyone is different, there can't be someone who is the same as everyone else, because you can only be the same as one person if everyone is different, but then there is another paradox, because then that person who is the same, is also no longer different and when you say everyone is different than everyone else, that person can't be the same as a single other person. So when everyone is different, everyone is literally different.
@mypandawilleatyou384 жыл бұрын
Everyone is entirely unique, not in some bullshit way, genuinely. Different cultures have a certain uniform for your gender, race, whatever, which we’re all pressured into wearing but it’s only superficial. The problem with the “different girl” persona is that it starts to become a uniform when the whole point is authenticity, not just copping quarks.
