I have a brand new Rhino Rack Back Bone system with the rack still in the box that I bought off of Trail Recons Site for my Gladiator. I can't use it because of the rack on my shell. So where are you located? You make it seem like you can just buy the mini and set up and go. If you are in the US, until it’s changed, you need to already have StarLink residential in order to even buy the mini and then you are data capped to 50 GB and the service can’t be paused so for someone who doesn’t know anything about the mini this video is misleading. Also do an advanced speed test so we can see the actual speed from the device to the satellites.

From what I understand, this is how they are handling the early phase of this product rollout. They are capping it as they increase production. This is also a product they are targeting for developing countries as a low cost alternative. The greater freedom for who can buy it will come as they increase the saturation of satellites for the density of the US customers. They already are having saturation issues in certain areas that limit speeds, which is why residential is marketed as non-mobile so they can track saturation.

600 Wh/day would be with it on 24/7. You can use it much less. At a minimum turning it off while sleeping knocks you down to 400 Wh/day. Using it half the waking hours is down to 200 Wh/day. We have used the larger more power hungry starlink on a boat and it works great just turn it off when not using it. Have to use Priority Data when "offshore" but within a few miles of the shore SpaceX considers it "land" so basic roam service works fine.

Nice introductory review. I am interested in detailed idle and up/download DC power usage to better estimate required solar panel and battery capacity for offgrid camping use. I suspect idle power will be in 20 watt range. Ok for short term use but for 24/7 connectivity Iridium sat based internet hotspot may be better choice. But if you need google map while out of cell coverage then this can't be beat. Edit: another video shows 40w bootup, ~25w active and 12.5w idle DC power usage at 13.2v. Not bad!

The mini is $600 and you have to add it to a current $120 residential plan, for $30 extra per month. So the cost is $150 per month right now in the US. Cheaper in Central America.

Great video! Starlink is a game changer for remote working. We don't have the mini yet in the UK, but I have just flat mounted the Gen 3 to my campervan/rv with the Trio FlatMount - video on my channel for the install, speeds etc. Currently using the EcoFlow Delta 2 to power it.

Don't like double commenting, but you didn't test your speeds when you were out of cell phone range, why?
