I was a long way from cell signal, but was getting around 110-120mps of stable interwebs through starlink, stoked with that!

We use it for work. It's the most frustrating internet on the planet. Its fast when it works, but it drops out 5 times a minute.. you can't use it for anything like video calls etc.. you just keep freezing.. every time it swaps satellites. Hope they get it sorted out.

Hi Danie, and all, I tested STARLINK here in rural WA and got great results (180Mbs UP) , also noticed the drop out during handover to a new stallite. Still am absolutely impressed with the tech and the price point - given I pay more for my crappy broadband in Perth and get less than half that speed! DONT TELL TOO MANY PEOPLE THOUGH - They'll start gobbling up all the bandwidth! Lets keep it a secret between us all :)

Excellent video Danie. If you can do an update after you use it some, I am not in Aus but still neat to know how it works there. Starlink has become a "necessity" for some offroad and RV people in USA. You may be able to run that while driving if you have a way to protect the tilt head. You can be miles from a town and still share the same satellite as the town. If you want to see the difference in ability between contract or RV Changing Lanes did a video "STARLINK Head to Head! (Residential vs Portable/rv " He does a good explanation. Starlink is about half price in South and Central America to the USA. Always nice to see Marsy boy, hope you all stay safe and healthy.

Great vid. Sat internet will always have a place in rural Aus. It has its limitations, but is great for up/down speeds. Latency and ping are drawbacks on this tech, so gaming or livestreaming will struggle from Sat swap and distance to signal. Other than that, it works really well on packet fed info. So social media and the like will do fine, so long as you're not expecting to stream uninterrupted. Looking forward to the updates, keep us in the loop.

We use the RV model for remote exploration drill rigs in WA. Using this, I get better speeds than when Im at my home 50kms south of Perth. From memory, we were getting about 180mb/s upload vs 30mb/s. came down to about 3-4A once it had finished scanning and a few people are adapting them to run off 12V also. But agreed the dish definitely is a tad awkward if you aren't permanently mounting it. Othewise im quite impressed with how basic it is. Even my router at home has multiple moving parts and vents that would be dust prone etc the router and dish are incredibly dust proof and basic. Hardly even indicator lights, very little to fail

I've got starlink and I've seen speeds of 200mbps, just give it 10 minutes to search for satelites. Currently i have my 3000w inverter in the car but I run it off a small 500w inverter so its more efficient and it uses 3.35-4A of power but I am thinking about converting it to be 12V. Just ordered the ethernet adapter and a travel router for Gl.iNet to see how well that works in bypass mode before i do the full 12V conversion. So far I'm so happy i got this though

No, residential isn't a locked in contract. It's month to month same as Roam plan. Anyway, who cares and that's rhetorical. Enjoy your roaming life!

I would be careful about cancelling and renewing your subscription have seen a couple people online cancelling theirs and then when they go away on holiday, Starlink say there is too much traffic and they will have to wait to register again. This was mostly in the US so if you do this, you may want to register earlier to make sure it doesn’t ruin your trip
@DanieSimpson
@DanieSimpson Жыл бұрын
that was mostly due to people cancelling and renewing their residential plans to save monye, i dont reccommed cancelling. The RV plan is deisgned to be paused, its not cancelling the plan or your access but putting a pause on your service so you cannot use it untill its unpaused.

It's a good idea yes, but when you go out bush and camp, the main reason is to get away from life and everything for a little and not have everything from home. But yes I get what you mean/doing it for. It's good for when travelling in the worse case you need to contact someone in an emergency when a phone may not have any signal and if you are a travelling family, most kids these days cannot live without a screen..😑 so having it will keep them happy I guess. Maybe they need to watch a KZfaq video on building a rope swing or skipping rocks😄

best part about life is everyone is different. some go camping to disconnect from technology, sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. When I go camping I love editing content sitting in my camp chair, it's so relaxing for me and it's when I feel most creative. I grew up carrying around my gameboy everywhere I went but still loved climbing trees and building rock castles up hills etc. Kids will do what they please and there's absolutely nothing wrong with a healthy balance of technology and outdoors growing up as a kid.
