Ah, movie magic -- that's actually a curtain we re-purposed for the videos because it's the right size and looks good on film. In the past, we've also had success going to the fabric store, getting a cut the right length, and lightly hemming it.

"Euro" is a common term for a genre of strategy games that originally came out of Germany (though current examples are produced all over the world). These games generally have economic themes, low luck, indirect player interaction (little conflict, and no player elimination), and an emphasis on strategy and elegant or innovative mechanics over theme/story. They're also generally designed for a family audience. Some classic examples are Power Grid, Puerto Rico, Carcassonne, and Agricola.

Yeah, that's what they told us as well. We brought in 32 copies for our store a little while ago, and have sold just under half of them. As far as I'm aware, we're currently one of the only places in North America that stocks it because of that lack of distribution. It's a shame, given how much fun the game is.

Twilight Imperium is definitely up there. Also Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 / Pathfinder (they fit in the same category in my head), which is the only game I've played consistently for years at a time. I'm also a big fan of War of the Ring and the Battlelore series of games, especially Battles of Westeros. I've also started playing Go, which is challenging, fascinating and engaging as hell, and I imagine it'll make the list soon. -Kaja

Sorry for the typo above, that's "makes a great reminder" (as the actions and technologies are all marked with symbols that make them easier to remember, though you'll have to get a handle on what they mean first). I'll also add that this game does have more to remember than Agricola, but it can be explained in about the same amount of time.

Hi Grtz. It definitely can take a while to set up Eclipse, especially the player boards with their resource cubes. If you're planning on teaching it, I'd definitely have it set up first, as it's a lot more intuitive to see how tracking actions/resources works when all the markers are in place. There are a lot of rules, but they're logical and fit together well, and the board design makes a great reminded. If your girlfriend was fine with Agricola's explanation, this will likely be okay. -Kaja

Hello, I saw a few of youre reviews from some board games. You both do a good job in explanation. I had a question about the game, Eclipse. Because I saw a lot of components in the game, does it take a lot of time to prepare the game compared to others? And can I explain it easely to my girlfriends? She hates the long explanation of how a new board game works but I managed to explain games like Agricola, Robo Rally, Carcasonne, Escape The Curse Of The Temple. Grtz Gunter

Some good games in that list across the board, however there are two in particular that I'd dispute! :P Eclipse is merely "balance your cheque book in space" - no theme and unbalanced/random technologies kill the game for the length you have to invest in it, and a lot of the rules are clunky. A Game Of Thrones - now I love the series and I looked forward to playing this with 5 players last week. . . it's so unbalanced! Lannisters have zero chance and there's no way to catch up if losing.

look up review by the dice tower they do a good job. Personally, I think its a fun game but it's extremely hard.

It's ok, but far too much downtime between turns - you're sitting there waiting forever for people to finish and the game is near endless.

Blah Mage Knight. I love rpg and board games and this game doesn't do it for me. The learning curve is STEEP so you can basically ignore your first 3 games. The resource management is brutal in the extreme.
