Sir Bryn not only sings, he embodies every phrase, every word. And this strong resonant voice he has developed! A great master.

This is the baritone aria from “Les Miz.” Baritones get no love like the tenors do. However, for me, baritone is my favorite male voice. Bryn Terfel is one of the best.

Bryn has the voice of a baritone angel, but if you are going to sing one of the all time musical theatre baritone classics, you need to tell the story of the lyrics. I wish I had an ounce of his talent, but this performance left me feeling underwhelmed. And what is with the 'm's in place of the 'n's?

@misterphilosophy3 жыл бұрын
In the line “and each in your season returns and returns,” he seems to be pronouncing an “m” sound in “return” instead of the “n.” He also does this with “written” a few lines later in “and so it is written.” Is this a singing technique? If so, what is its purpose?
@misterrodger3 жыл бұрын
It's done a lot in Spanish and Italian, depending on the specific dialect. I can't say for sure why he does it here, but he's a native Welsh speaker and has performed mainly in Italian and German on stage, so I'm guessing it's a carryover from the emotional delivery of Italian opera. Or his lip might have just been sweaty.

Amazing voice, but look up Philip Quast’s version. Quast embodies Javert for me - I think he tops this. Bryn fluffed the words here!
@IrishPotato863 жыл бұрын
He did mix the lyrics up, but he was a true professional and continued. The conductor and orchestra was smart enough to keep going too, but overall, he did a good job. He's got an excellent voice. Quast is Javert. As others have put, he embodies Javert. He understands the psychology of who Javert is, so he understands how Javert thinks. This assist majorly when taking on the persona of a character. You have to understand that character the same way you understand yourself.

MrKhatMan But if you understand the lyrics, it would be hard to make this mistake. In the first verse, Javert is saying that those who are righteous have their reward, in contrast to those who fall, who will have the flame and sword. Plus, the other way doesn’t rhyme lol.
