Check out the site where the Famous CSX Homestead Subdivision starts to be inactive and then an abandoned railway into obscurity!
This track South of Gold Coast Railroad Museum is now abandoned and no longer out of service or unused. It was an original Seaboard Air Line built in 1926 for Passenger trains and tourism to Homestead, Florida at the time.

Just know that the rail corporations are among the most corrupt industries, and the democrats just crushed rail unions. The red ties would do the same if they were in office.

The short sections of rail you pointed out, Roli, are used to help the wheelsets go through the frog properly. They prevent a lateral movement where the flange of the wheel going through the frog would take the wrong path at the point of the frog. The guard rail keeps the wheelset from shifting too much by making contact with the wheel flange opposite the frog. Thanks for another video, Roli, and cheers from Wisconsin!

Aww, you have ducklings down there already! Combine that with the water lilies, and that sight is beyond beautiful! And a 97-year-old rail-just imagine the trains that those rails have seen over the years, and it’s a wonder we’re not wanting to find Doc Brown’s DeLorean and see for ourselves! Spring is coming preposterously early here too-my winter aconites are finished blooming already and have segued to snowdrops, crocuses, and daffodils, and it’s not even March yet! My younger daughter even saw a bluebird up by the school complex this week, what the heck?! Enjoy the warmth without the oppressive heat and “fumidity” while it lasts and stay safe, Roly!

97 years old that track. There is something quite fascinating about deserted track stretching in to the distance. Close to me there are some sidings where our local metro (tube) has lines empty during daytime but stock parked up at night, whenever I walk past my imagination runs wild. Am on that train line tomorrow into Central London.

Hey Roly. I know exactly where you were here. Small correction, that crossing is SW 152 St, not 152 Ave. The 3 Lakes community and Country Walk are right there. Vary rarely will trains cross SW 152 St anymore. The railroad museum is nearby also by the zoo, perhaps another video for the future! I almost bought a house years ago down that way, which backed up to the tracks near SW 137 Ave. You should have seen that area back in 1992 after Hurricane Andrew. Thank you for showing us the area. Love your videos

9:00 I think the inner rails are to prevent the wheel flange from skipping off of the rail entirely because for whatever reason at that point it's more likely to. Same as with the inner rails on a bridge, so if there is a derailed wheel it will stay within the railbed and not damage the bridge or completely topple the cars. I'm not totally sure tho, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I always enjoy these. Those were guard rails. Often used on bridges to protect against derailments. You mentioned being close to the Gold Coast Rail Road Museum. You should do a video of it. Do a walk through and show everyone what they have there. Those of us who do not live in South East Florida would probably like to see what the museum contains. Thank You for Sharing.

Fantastic Morning! here in Texas we don't see a lot of those abandoned railways But If you wanted to know what those Extra rails where for on the switch they are used as Flanges and prevent possible Derailing when a train passes the switch in basically alignment Just in case the locomotive derails on it

There you are again. Haven't seen you in a while. I've always wondered about that stretch of rail . It was near some produce houses. Picked up Green beans fresh and greens . Been eons ago. Down in Homestead itself. South side of town. Probably near where it use to head to the Key railroad/highway bridge. Need to go check out the old Wabash bridge and railroad bed in southeast Illinois/Indiana by Interstate 64. There's a rest area and Love's truck stop by there. There's a 3ft gage abandoned railroad in that area.

FP&L is not the only power company in S. Florida. The City of Homestead has its own and the Keys have.......................Florida Keys Electric Cooperative and further down, Keys Electric Services. Homestead Power System often buys their power from FP&L as it is cheaper than generating their own. FKEC buys theirs from FP&L and distributes it in the Keys. Many of the cities in Dade County used to have their own power plants but as far as I know, Homestead's is the last in the County. Head of the power plant used to be our neighbor across the street when we lived inside the city limits. Disclaimer: Next Era Energy stockholders in the family.

There is such a thing as an abandoned railroad. In this case CSX filed it on 3/19 with the Dept of the Registrar. In other abandoned railroad cases, the RR company doesn't even own the land anymore.
