Just so! Never done it, but my Dad did back in the ‘40s. He said you pull upward on a compression stroke, never push downward. If you pull and the engine backfires the handle will pull out of your hand. If it backfires while you are pushing downward the handle could break your thumb, wrist or jaw. In the old days people have died from complications from injuries this way

Any videos of how to set timing a d throttle for starting and what to do after it starts?
@carlfriedrich5316 Жыл бұрын
Retard the timing all the way (up) and just crack the throttle (maybe 1/4 open) is how I do it. Choke out with ignition off, 2-3 cranks to prime it, then choke in with ignition on and crank. Should start right up. Once started, advance the timing until it smooths out and close the throttle to idle while you climb in.

You sure it's a 16? Ford stopped using Brass in 1915, their may have been a few 16 models made with brass surplus, be rare if it is!
@joelbrower654710 ай бұрын
They used the same brass radiator in 1916, headlight rings were painted steel, but its pretty common for people to substitute the brass ones. What says 1915 is the brass on the side lights.

Ive seen different ways of starting the model T but you can really tell when someone has experience! For some of you that dont know , some people say pull with left hand after priming ,others pull with their dominant arm. 1 question though is this battery or magneto start up?

I knew someone who had one of these in His collection, He said You don't wrap Your thumb around the crank handle when starting it in case of back fire so it can just slip out of Your hand instead of breaking Your thumb. If You can see the Guys thumb it is next to his index finger and not around the lever.

Will it break your arm if you don’t let go in time? 😮
@ZodeusBloomberg4 ай бұрын
No the crank is not attached to the engine it is pushed into place for starting and releases itself after, the only way one could break your arm is if you were cranking it with your right arm and it kicks back but if you use your left and it kicks back it will just throw your arm to the side

He may be using his right arm, but he's still pulling up and away from the crank. Left arm is better, however. Maybe he's had left shoulder problems.
