I've been on a CD binge since the late '80s. Collecting never ends. And I love to hear 'new' stuff that I'm not familiar with... but time is running out and I have to realize that I should listen to what I love and not waste as much time looking for things I MIGHT love. Hmmm... that made sense to me when I wrote it! Truth is, I had to offload hundreds of CDs a year or so ago when I moved. I'm regretting it to this day even though I've still got thousands left!

Same thing happened to me! I had to move and was only able to pack 1000 CD's - leaving hundreds behind!

I've been collecting CDs since the late 1980s so I didn't need any advice, but your video was very good! I was especially intrigued by the suggestion to avoid remasters. Counter-intuitive but true. Also, the suggestion to avoid loading up on music you don't know is excellent. Music requires time, and we only have so much of it, and we can only "absorb" music at a certain rate. One thing I wish you'd mentioned, and I think this is VERY important, is to check the playing surface of the CD. I've acquired used CDs that were flawed because the reflective playing surface had developed small pinholes (sometimes they're not so small). I'd recommend holding the CD up to whatever bright light is available in the shop, "blank" (unprinted) side of the disc facing you, and look for pinholes of light shining through. The CD should be rejected if it has even one pinhole because it will not play properly.

2 things i would say is, if the jewel case is broken, be careful when buying replacements. Its hard to find quality replacement cases. I usually go to charity shops and crap cds which have good cases and replace this way. Another point, if you see a gold cd, it might not be a special edition....its possible its CD rot. Just check it anyway. Ive been collecting vinyl since 1979 and CDs from 1985, when they were just becoming commercially available. I amassed around 8000 cds and 5000 LP's....and still adding to them regularly.

Great channel, just found it. My only feedback would be to consider holding the CD's you're showing still for a moment. More often than not, you just wave them around, bounce them a couple times, then they're gone. Sometimes it's not quite clear what the album title is when you say it, so I'd love to be able to read what it is, but often, nope. I do like the recommendations at the end with your descriptions of them to create interest. Subbed!

I've recently brought a second hand car, and in the immortal words of Feeder, "Its got a CD player"! But it's not a Jaguar, it's a Ford. I love it! It given me the chance to start listening to my old and extensive CD collection, as I've not had a working CD player for years! So much good stuff in there! When I'm really driving I turn it off as I like to hear what the car is telling me, but it's an estate car with a duvet in the back, so when I'm out gigging I save money on accommodation by sleeping in it, this is the best bit! Turns out Ford put reasonably capable sound systems in their cars these days! Now I like lots of styles of music from blues to folk, metal and so on. But there is nothing like laying down in a big metal chassis, turning up the bass and sticking on some old skool hardcore break beat rave, or dubstep before I fall asleep, with the whole thing vibrating under and around me! And yes, charity shop CD hunting is great!

Surely it's got a CD player, player, player? 🤣 I'm actually in the market for a new daily driver myself and I'm not going to get a new car because most of the models I want don't have CD players. Also I'm tight and I hate the depreciation 🤣 It's great to rediscover your collection though mate. I know your musical styles range far and wide. Never thought of dubstep as lullaby music though. Fair play I guess lol

I wonder why analogue fans are so against compression as it was invented to put music onto vinyl. CD's do not need compression as a medium but unfortunately get it. The dynamic range available on a cd compared to vinyl is huge.
@chriswills94378 ай бұрын
True, True and True but its the level of compression on newer pop/rock CD´s compared to new vinyl that makes the latter often sound better today. CD is a technically superior medium but its potential in pop/rock has been wasted by poor mastering. New classical CDs today sound consistently excellent and remastered classical ones too, because dynamic range is highly important in this genre.

Wow, collecting CDs from scratch is simple just buy albums you have listened to and love to own don't buy a box load or go out and pick up random crap you might not like yes your shelf will look bare but who cares? just buy the albums you love and when you have too many then and only then buy a rack to hold them in. I have seen people on FB buying hundreds of CDs at a time, why it will take forever to go through them all and then you have to pass them on to the next mad collector. I have been collecting since the 80s but every album I have I wanted however when I ripped them to Flac its taking forever lol.

It's all in the ear of the beholder my friend! I grew up as a teenager in the UK in the 90's so I will always have a place in my heart and my music collection for Britpop of that era. Not really into the post-Britpop indie from the early noughties as it's not my thing but I'd never say bad stuff about it just because it's not my thing. We're all entitled to our own music tastes for our collections. m As for remastered CDs, sure some people prefer them, others prefer the originals. Variety is the spice of life and all that!

Band-Maid's Brand New Maid, I was shocked to see you flash it on screen! It's their third album with their first song written by them "Alone" that their label allowed them to put on, prior to that all their song were written by other people. Since then they are prolific in making their own songs and saw them live twice in 2022. I just adore them. Misa is the bass player and doesn't sing. Saiki is the main vocals. Miku doing back-up vocals and she is the rhythm guitarist, lyricist and founder of the group. Akane is the awesome drummer . Kanami is lead guitarist and writes most of their music.

The only thing I hate about CD's are jewel cases. They look generic, get ugly over time and are way too thick. They may protect the disc pretty well but I haven't liked them from the start (I'm old). I even dislike the sound they're making when browsing through them in a store 😂 I've transfered all my discs to wallets and they take up much less space now. I do keep the special cases though (colored or anything else that makes it special).
