I´m 40 and grew up with tapes, some vinyl and then CDs, the newest shit until the late 90s. When I still bought original CDs around 2002, friends wondered about me because they already downloaded illegally, maybe burnt some own CDs with the MP3s. Today no one burns own CDs anymore. In 2005 I started buying more and more Vinyls because I wanted to become a DJ. Prices were much lower back then, before the Hype. Today I listen to Vinyl, CDs, MP3s, Tapes, I stream some music, but never on Spotify, mainly on YT. I also digitalized Vinyl. Since I´m not deejaying anymore, Vinyl has become less important to me, but I still keep my records for listening. I gave aways some CDs too, maybe 50, but most of them I keep, sometimes I also still buy new ones. I never could live without physical media. And even the good old radio is sometimes really nice.

I always liked the album art of physical sound media: cassettes to the least extent, CDs more so, and vinyl the most due to its size. Although I own releases on all three formats, the large majority are CDs. I don't even play the vinyl because I have all of those releases on CD also and since they look so nice that I don't want them to deteriorate. Even their superior artwork can get ring wear, seam splits, and water damage. My solution is owning some great books of 12' x 12" reproductions of famous album cover art. These let me enjoy the full-sized artwork while appreciating the matching CDs' noiseless sound reproduction. In my experience, CDs are much less likely to deteriorate except for an occasional scratched disc which I'll replace.

New to your channel. Refuse to get rid of my cds and vinyl. Regret I had to sell all my equipment a few years back. Trying to piece together a used receiver and cd player so I can play all my discs again. Long term may consider a B2 or B3. Thank you for what you do sir!

CD's will never be back, at least as far as mainstream or average consumer. None of the past formats will ever return to the mainstream. There will always be niche groups and exceptions, but tech always moves forward... and always will. At some point, say good-buy to streaming also. No format can or ever will last forever, The progression of technology alone would never allow it.

I've recently decided against buying more vinyl and instead have been buying CDs again and have found the most albums now come in cardboard which is more like a vinyl format feel, they use less space and I love it. I'm now exclusively only buying albums that are in cardboard which I work out with google images and discogs. If it's only available in Jewel case then it's only getting played on Spotify.

I have a massive CD-CDR DVD-DVDR collection so I like m spinners. Super cheap used market players like Pioneer DV-600AV and DV610AV are great. I have a Pioneer BDP-LX58 and that is a discspinner dreamboat, it plays anything and does stream DLNA and DRM. Just also got me a Yamaha CD-S303 to complete my yamaha setup and that's a nice player to play without a screen attached. Finally a player that can play WAV-FLAC-WMA-M4A-MP3 from CDR or USB stick and quickly select folders and tracks. Shows folder artist and track text. I had some trouble with other players like Marantz CD- players and Poioneer PD-30 that did not skip folders really annoying. Makes them useless with large drives.

I've never got rid of any of my physical media. I'm only a few years older than you and got my first CD player at the dawn of the 90s, when I was about 15 or 16. Before that, I'd been a vinyl fan, who would record everything on to tape. This gave me the best of both worlds, and the ability to enjoy music on the go through a walkman, and later in the car when I started driving. However, records weren't without their problems. Jumping records used to irritate the hell out of me - as well as the inevitable deterioration of quality you get through repeated plays. CDs certainly aren't the miracle format that we were promised (no jumping, indestructible nonsense), but they do have a cleaner sound, they don't deteriorate in quality with repeated plays, they're small enough to be portable, and obviously take up less space. Given that you can easily rip them to a digital format really does make them the superior format in my book. Fortunately, they've still been available through Amazon for all these years, so aren't dead yet.

I have about 4000 CDs and over the last two years have converted all of the standard jewel cases to CPP plastic "sleeves" as they're called in Canada/USA. No regrets. They are all displayed in three CD bookcases which are four feet high and three feet wide each, seven shelves high. I keep them in straight alphabetical order regardless of genre. I file compilation CD's separately. I recycle the jewel cases at the recycle depot. I don't convert the digipak cardboard sleeves. I really like cardboard sleeves as they so often have great artwork. On the shelf, they give me all the visual alphabetical hints I need to find the CDs that are in sleeves. I buy used CDs almost exclusively because they are so inexpensive. The used jewel cases are very often horribly dirty or broken, but they did their job keeping the artwork and booklets in near new condition! For me converting the old CD into a new sleeve is a big upgrade both visually and for saving space. The sleeves are crystal clear and the artwork is much more visually appealing. I use sleeves that are 130mm square. I either fold the backing card to fit, or leave it sticking out unfolded to assist in finding it on the shelf. Per sell ability after conversion: I have an eBay store where I sell any CDs that I don't wish to keep. This store more than pays for all the CDs I buy (usually at thrift stores / charity shops for a dollar or two). I resell the CDs in the sleeves without a jewel case as the mailing cost that way is 1/3 the price. I therefore can sell cheaper than most other sellers. I do give the buyer the choice to pay $2 more if they prefer it in a jewel case. I keep the nicest ones and can reconstitute a CD into a jewel case in a few seconds if the buyer wants it that way. Only one person has chosen this option in about 300 sales. Obviously jewel cases are easily acquired and replaced, at least here in Canada. What matters is the artwork, the booklet and the CD. I also rip all my CDs to lossless quality on my computer. I do this whilst I'm listening to the newly acquired CD. I have iTunes match which allows me to listen to all my music on any of my devices. This costs me $28 per year. I store all the music on an 8 TB hard drive. I also back up this hard drive to older smaller hard drives. Even with unlimited space I would still use the sleeve method. Unless the jewel case is pristinely new, the sleeves look so much better than old scratched jewel cases. in this case for me, less is more. Per CD care in a sleeve: I keep the CD inside the booklet. The CD and booklet together slides into the sleeve. The backing card goes in last. When I want to play a CD, I remove the booklet and CD together from the sleeve. Done this way, the CD never has any friction against the paper. It is very easy to learn to take care with the CD. It is far less work than caring for a vinyl record.

The secret is they know everything of the note's whereabouts and transactions. Going cashless is for your total digital enslavement via CBDC & a social credit system.

You're completely correct, I doubt that many of these "audiophiles" actually like listening to music, they are just like petrol heads who know everything about BS but little about ordinary driving habits. A lot of the same audiophiles? seem more interested in elevating their own egos and are mostly jumped up salesmen. The loudspeakers components upgrades guy in his late 50s who appears on here an makes out he can still hear upto 18k says it all to me - they see themselves like the art or fine dining elite where they have much improved perception over ordinary me and you

2 things i would say is, if the jewel case is broken, be careful when buying replacements. Its hard to find quality replacement cases. I usually go to charity shops and crap cds which have good cases and replace this way. Another point, if you see a gold cd, it might not be a special edition....its possible its CD rot. Just check it anyway. Ive been collecting vinyl since 1979 and CDs from 1985, when they were just becoming commercially available. I amassed around 8000 cds and 5000 LP's....and still adding to them regularly.
