The correct way should put right foot on the other side (board side) of the handle, hold the top bar with right hand, and pull the starting string with left hand. This way the right foot with right hand provide a firm grasp of the saw to pull the starting string.

I have started a chain for over 50 years, the way they showed!! But the way you say to start, it is way better and easier for this 67 year, old man!! You get a gold ⭐!! I have been doing it your way for about a year!! Old dogs can learn new tricks!!
