Joan is a fantastic actress. Most people think being a dramatic actress is harder than being a comedic actress buts its not. Comedy is harder. Stand up is even harder. Yes I know its a show that is rehearst but a lot is improv and Joan was the absolute best at improv. It just saddens me that mainstream Hollywood wouldn't take her seriously as a actress. She was brilliant in everything she did.

So accurate. She was unfairly hated by many and I think it was almost entirely because she was a Female and white (therefore predjudice for any jokes revolving around peoples race or ethnicity) which is so dumb because she's jewish and for one THEY'RE JUST JOKES, and honestly her jokes were THE BEST, they were blunt, brutal, dry, and had her audiences HYSTERICAL because she was THAT TALENTED. Its a shame she had to go through the loss of her husband and then passed away not long ago. We need more strong female roles in comedy, acting, and in the world.

You're so right. She was an uber talent. I loved her as I grew older in my own life I began to understand her more and more. I hate that we lost her they way, and when, we did. I feel like we all lost her. Not just Melissa and the family. God bless them.

WELL...Joan was Tony nominated for Sally MArs...she won an EMMY for best daytime talk show host....she chose not to continue that show. I'd say she got her "kudos"...and at a point, aside from booking and booking dates...at age 80, she was satisfied with her life....had 2 cable and one internet show. Amazing.

Edgar DID screw Joan’s career up and TPTB begged her to fire him, but she simply couldn’t and he caused her career to collapse. He then left her with so many debts in death, too. So sad that Johnny Carson didn’t reach out to Joan after this tragedy and help her through this.

Joan and Melissa are playing themselves and acting out a real tragedy that really happened to them - for the public's entertainment? Seriously? Am I the only one who finds this incredibly weird? Maybe this drama was therapeutic for them in some strange way. But it really baffles me that they were able to act out true scenes, depicting the real life suicide of their husband and father. That's so incredibly personal and - you would assume, private - wasn't it terribly painful to re-enact it all??? Thanks for this rare upload - if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it!

@@Yonarer Well it was their tragedy so they were fully entitled to do with it whatever they wanted. I just think a made for TV movie is strange therapy but hey, I'm British. We are the most introverted and repressed nation on Earth, so over sharing anything personal is anathema to us!

Joan wrote this, and then they played each other. This was a huge help to them to work through their grief. Also to help so many other families dealing with suicide. I can't even imagine the amount of courage it must have taken to do that.
@glamdolly30
@glamdolly30 4 жыл бұрын
@@megankazukibuttons9334 That's an excellent point, and you make it eloquently. Joan Rivers was indeed a very courageous human being, as was evident throughout her life. This autobiographical, deeply personal movie is yet more evidence - were it needed - of what a remarkable woman she was. As a comedian and personality, I loved and admired her hugely. Joan wrote some inspirational self-help books, one of which entitled 'Bouncing Back' was a great comfort to me at a low time in my life. People are unaware that after her husband's suicide, she became an inspirational speaker and counsellor on a very small and discreet scale. She wanted to help others whose lives had been blighted by suicide, and I'm sure she did. God bless her, the world is not half so much fun without her in it.

Every family has it episode of struggle, success, failure, hurt, pain, disappointment, rebirth, moving on, and so on and so on, decline, and finally decapitation. The ones left pick up the pieces and relocate, if only to the next room, across the street or where ever, and then put it all behind except for temporary momentary memories. The world changes. But for some, the memories come back and haunt. Then history repeats itself over and over. It all happens to someone else.

He bottled everything upbecause he couldn't trust her. Consider this. The one time he DID confide in her, she went straightaway and betrayed his trust. If he was legitimately a "thinking" man as they constantly portray here in this movie, then he may have had legitimate 'reasoning' (as opposed to a "reason") for wanting her not to tell Melissa. Could it be that he wanted to tell Missy himself??? Could it be that he was testing Joan with something seemingly small to her in order to see if he could trust her with much deeper things later? This man (Edger) kept EVERYTHING in aa a result of her omission of trust. Then, he imploded. #VerySad

Even though celebrity said they weren't left with nothing and she always had a place to go.. if you been ever in a position where you're really without nothing.. I mean no home no house no family... Edgar let Joan down many times. Yes she was a star and hugely talented, and she made the mistake of letting her not very talented husband manage/produce her. Edgar was a control freak, and drunk with power. He was difficult, caused problems for her with TV executives and lost her a big TV series because people didn't want to work with him. I think Joan sold herself short when she married him, she was very loyal but ultimately they were headed to the divorce courts because he was a lousy husband. Very sad for her and their daughter that he took that way out. As with many suicides, there was a lot of anger and resentment on his part. I don't think his male ego ever forgave Joan for being more successful, more popular, more bankable, more everything than he was.
