This is an amazing start to a city. My vanilla game was build with dirt roads, and it's a big mess. But it makes money and I'm unlocking the xbox achievements so.. I've completely filled one square and got 20k plus population. I've also make over 7mil so it's about time I basically start again on a new tile. My plan is to follow a better strategy and than eventually wipe out the old town bit by bit and update it. Your video has given me a good starting point.

Thanks a lot, is a great example of how to start from the highway. I wish you had explained a bit more of the basic commands, for example, how to change the direction of the "one-way" road without having to delete them, stuff like that.

Bought CS in May 2019, I still have horrible habits from SimCity, Cities of Tomorrow in 2/27/20. I keep trying to pack every single square to min/max space and money. Grrrr! Love this game.

The biggest question I always have is road layout planning! I try to make my cities look similar to towns, much from the US. But, planning and figuring out most efficient placement etc is always where I struggle in the long term.

Very nice video, thanks. How do you get your rotating, zooming and panning so smooth and in control? When I play it looks like a distant echo of my commands in 10p. Sooo frustrating sometimes. Although I like the game a lot, for me that will be a major reason to stop playing C:S..

Three years later, come across this vid, and it looked similar to a starting grid I tried recently, but this one... WAY more effective! I think the error I made was the off-ramp into the industrial district intersected directly with the overpass road/bridge heading over towards the residential/commercial side rather than having that 10 unit roadway, and then my residential/commercial area kept running straight along that main collector road line. End result, traffic going into the industrial park was fighting traffic going from the industrial park to the residential at that one intersection... and then on the residential side, eeeeeverything funneled onto that collector and THAT intersection was borked too. Nice about this setup, after your city is up and running, there's PLENTY of room around those initial roads coming off the main highway, so you can work in a few more on/off ramps and place a few warehouses or some utilities, decorate up with some nice parkland as a nice "welcome to town" vista.

I've used the method of factories on one side and residential on the opposite since suggested long ago. Made an experiment to put a small factory in a residential neighborhood. The pollution even from the smallest factory hampered residential. This is a problem in Cities: Skylines because as a kid we had a battery company hidden by trees and their pollution never went past the property line.

I can't get the elevation thing to work.. it seems simple here, just set it on medium but nothing happens when I do it..it just stays flat

I have a question man, how do you get all those huge houses in your city? For example whenever I create a big block for the residents and select the whole thing, it will create lots of houses but including small ones, and whenever I tried to select just a 5x5 square, it will make a 2x3 house, and a 2x2 house, it will just not create big houses like you've got, is there a trick towards it?

Nice video as for the road planning but I think that you planned you industrial zone in an completely wrong place as for this particular map. You seem to have ignored those huge oil rich areas :)

I like the idea of this game, but it's kind of infuriating sometimes how most of the starting highway ramps are so off grid in the beginning, making it nearly impossible to make symmetrical one-way roads in the beginning.

This don't work with the 70k initial cash...
