A late 1970s Muscle and Fitness article by Lou Ferrigno told me to bench, squat and row for a few reps and add reps or weight every workout. It worked until the next issue I bought told me something else.

the point is that you can look 'bulky' in a shirt if you have strong forearms, traps and shoulders, all which come from the compound lifts of the SS program. There is a difference between fat and bulky. Even in the worst case scenario, 20%BF *after* you finished the linear progression, you look good.

Add 5, UNTIL IT STOPS WORKING. Do people really listen? Or just come biased, lets trash Rip. Do you know the books have intermediate and advanced programming? And that at some point in advance STRENGTH training, you have to find what works for you, get a coach or whatever... And that is probably less then 1% of people training strength that will ever get to that level? Until there add 5. Or change and unnecessarily put complexity into something simple. (that will to sell templates, the really good ones, better then everybody else's) Or do your rpe nonsense (for a novice or intermediate lifter). Even people training consistently for 2-3 years know what their body is capable of...
@dragonchr15
@dragonchr15 2 жыл бұрын
SS was meant to be run for a limited period of time, ideally by an untrained person so they can fully maximize novice gains. Once you attain a reasonable level of strength, which can vary, but AT LEAST a double BW squat is a good standard, then you can discontinue the program and do other things depending on your goals and needs. But you need to build a solid strength base first because it translates well to all of these other activities, and you gives you a decent return on investment in time and food. This is explained at a SS seminar. Rip even said you can go into bodybuilding after his program.

Well according to Rip, don't bother even trying to train for speed and power you'll never be as fast as you Usain bolt, don't bother training for aesthetics you'll never look like an elite bodybuilder. Why even bother training for strength if I'm never going to be as strong as elite powerlifters? There is a hint of truth is What he is saying but so much dogma. There are a lot of valuable exercises for improving hypertrophy and aesthetics other than squat deadlift bench and press. Doesn't it get old being so dogmatic?
@25newer
@25newer 2 жыл бұрын
I think his whole point is that speed and power can't really be trained to the degree that strength can. Like you aren't going to be able to ever jump 2x higher than what you can now or run 100m 2x faster . But you can probably get 2x stronger in a reasonably short amount of time. And as for aesthetics I can't remember the guy but he cited a case study and high reps low weight and low reps high weight both with progressive overload showed the same results with muscle growth, but low reps got people stronger. I'll try to find the source
