Its time to start the Gladiator Build!!!
We have a lot in store for you guys, so go ahead and smash that thumbs up button, and dont forget to hit that bell button and turn on notifications!
Starting off the Jeep JT build, i decided to try out a AFE power cold air intake.. I will say that i do like it, and its an improvement over the factory intake. However i would not say i gained a lot of performance from it. It does sound amazing, and if your set on getting a new intake then i would recommend it. Same goes for all my JL Wrangler owners with the 3.6L Engine. Here is a link if you are interested: amzn.to/2ZtkAwc
I know i told you guys that i was going to talk about how the Gladiator did offroad, and i still will, i really want to test it out with 35s first. Once i test it out with bigger tires i will have a good idea of the stock performance compared to the capability with larger tires.
The 35s fit great, and honestly i would recommend them to anyone starting out their build. I do think that i will end up getting the 37s though. Im excited to show you the new wheels, trust me, they are going to look sweet on the truck.
I did a horrible job talking about the lug nuts in this video... When its time to talk about the new wheels and tires i will bring it back up.. but you need m14x1.5 lug nuts that dont have a huge taper like factory. JK lug nuts will not work as they are a different size.. sorry for any confusion. Here is a link to some lugnuts that will work. amzn.to/33bspc3 .
The Molle bed panel can be found here, and i will do a deeper review of it in the future.
www.molle-platform-solutions....
And of course i had to add some overland gear to the Jeep! Rotopax... not sure when ill use it, but its cool to have.
Thanks for watching and stay tuned for the next video!!

It is a helmholtz resonator. As others have stated it is used to cut down on intake noise, either droning or high pitch whistling. the shape and size is usually designed to reduce specific frequencies. I have worked for Audi for a long time, most of our intake hoses have a resonator somewhere in the line.

I believe the box on the intake is basically a Helmholtz resonator. Like one of the other commenters said, it acts as a “muffler”. Basically as air passes by it, the air inside the little box resonates at a specific frequency, that frequency is used to cancel out a frequency they were most likely having trouble with during NVH tuning (noise vibration and harshness).

I have no idea why they would ever go to those screws on the air intake. It seems like they listen to everyone on what they want to see on the new jeeps, except 2 door truck. Maybe cause they knew people are going to change it out. Also if you remove the inner front fenders on JT you should be able to run 37s with no lift.

Love your videos and information... but it seems people need a tutorial on the workings of a gas combustion engine in regards to a CAI - In the simplest terms in this order, the engine needs air, then gas which is ignited - all at the right proportions while expelling gases efficiently out of the engine. If any of those things are not addressed at the same time you will not make power (more) efficiently. A CAI will do virtually nothing on its own except push lots of cold air into your engine where it’ll go to waste. The engine needs to meet the increase in cold air with more gas, which means you have to ignite it bigger and faster (better plugs, wires and distributor). Then you need to get rid of the gases. That requires a better exhaust (headers and muffler). Then the engine has to be tuned so all these additions work together (tuner/programmer). In general, none of these performance parts on its own will make more power. An engine is a complete system thus changing one piece messes up the rest of the system. Want a CAI? Then also add better plugs, wires and distributer, coils, headers, muffler and a tuner/programmer. Do all of this and then you’ll see gains. On my 2011 Jeep Rubicon 3.8, I added a Volant CAI, RIPP plugs and wires and RIPP headers. I run 37’s with 5:13’s. All together, using 93 octane, on the dyno, the additions made 50 extra HP at the rear wheels. Power expanded throughout the rpm range which was great. I saw an increase in gas mileage from 15.2 to 17.9 at 70mph on flat highways. For me, the additions were worth it. It's a totally new driving experience. And no, I don't represent RIPP. Hope this helps.

Technically you can put whatever engine and trans combo that you want, the issue is making it work with the Jk system. Most kits work with the more expensive V8s and they come with adapters and ECMs that will retain the Jk dash, controls and other electronics. The only way to run a V8 that isn’t common (HEMI or LS swap) would be to use a standalone system and make your own entire control system (custom dash, custom shifter, etc). Honestly in the end it’s easier to use a DIY kit from a company like RPM extreme, source your own engine and trans that they reccomend, and do it yourself. It’s not a cheap swap at all sadly.

I'm considering buying that intake for my Gladiator but am a little worried about that open gap letting in moisture and dirt. How has your been?
