Omg what I just finished this the other day! This is honestly my new fave book of all time, it's such an emotional ride! It really helped me pull myself out of a lot of dark thoughts and anxiety and helped me consider how amazing and what a gift life really is. I've never read anything like it before.

Hi, Carolyn! It's amazing to see, how people from over the world love to read Tolstoy's War and Peace. Students in Russia study this book in school, and to my mind it's too early. When covid started, I read this book for the first time (because in school it was hard and boring) and it left an indelible impression. Good look to you, and wish all the people only peace in our days!

War and Peace is a dictionary of life where one may look up any passion, any ambition and find its meaning (William Lyon Phelps). War and Peace helps to restore the balance and to recall our vision of humanity (E.M.Forster). You don't read War and Peace...you live it (Anon). Enjoying the vlogs so very much (Me!)

I haven’t even watched this whole video yet but I’m already smiling so much! Your joy about reading this book is infectious! ❤️ I’m reading it too. This is a re-read for me but it’s been so many years since I initially read it that it feels almost like a new read. And I’m loving falling in love with Tolstoy’s writing again. I predict that you will love this book so much! Anyway, just had to tell you that I love all of your videos. They are so refreshing and cozy and always inspire me to read more classics (and to keep adding to my collection of Macmillan Collector’s Library editions 😍). So thank you for the inspiration and enjoy War and Peace! Can’t wait to watch the next debate! 💚📚🌸

I am currently on page 296. I am really enjoying it so far, even more than I thought I would🖤 I have been switching between physically reading and the audiobook as I have had a two hour commute each day lately as I have been in practice at a lower secondary school. I am a lector student here in Norway in english and social sciences so with practice and university work it has been really busy. So nice to see your work coming along and your video brought me so much peace during this hectic time🖤 It will be so fun to follow along with your posts and videos whilst reading this beautiful book 📖 I also have the same edition as you and bought it right before you announced the bookclub. I found that to be such a fun sign that I had to join in and I already love Dickens so this is so interesting to be a part of🖤

As well as the superb BBC serialisation of War and Peace from 2016 there is - in my humble opinion - an equally splendid Italian/French/Russian co-production starring Clemence Poesy and Malcolm McDowell that appeared in 2007. If you haven't already overdosed i strongly suggest adding this series to your ongoing W & P reading/viewing experience! With kind regards, thanks and warmest best wishes from Cromerjoe in ye olde England.

I haven't watched all of it yet, but I just wanted to say how incredibly excited I am to see you (and a ton of other people too) read w&p! It definitely has it's flaws, but it's so so worth all time spent on it. I'm just a bit sad that we all can't read it in Russian😔- it's such a beautiful and expressive language, with a ton of demiunitives that unfortunately can't be conveyed to English (I know you've talked about it during Childhood, Boyhood, Youth liveshow) Happy reading everyone! EDIT: ok, I've finished watching and I see you talk about it here too😅 I love your videos, it's clear how much you care about art and reading, we need more people like you in the world❤

13:15 not only are you reading one of the biggest novels your annotating and rereading sections 😆 Nothing wrong with nerding out, especially when your learning to write yourself 😀 17:40 The oxford edition has an essay by Tolstoy "Some words about War and peace" which goes into detail about his views on the war. I think he preempted the idea of writing "Peoples Histories" of things. Your so passionate and your attention to detail (the fabric), which I'm sure Tolstoy agonized over these details as well. Carolstoy will be a great writer! 📖🌟

I'm so excited for you! It's making me want to reread War and Peace, though I have a couple of other monster novels that I want to read this year. Have you seen or read The Last Station? If not, I would highly recommend it. It's historical fiction about the last year(s) of Tolstoy's life, especially centered around his relationship with his family and his 'followers'.

I have no idea why the google autoplay gods played your video. But I guess the google gods know everything about everyone of us. I got the book over 20 years ago. The Ann Dunnigan translation (which is absolutely beautiful BTW). One of these mass market paperbacks with 45 lines per page and tiny font. Intimidated by the book and being lazy, and not too much of a reader apart from technical material that relates to my work, I put off reading the book all those years. But I read it at last. Amazing book beautiful Natasha. I mean beautiful Carolyn. The way your soul lights when in your videos you share your reading is the same way Natasha's (Russian) soul lit up as she danced at her uncle's place after the hunt. Natasha .. Carolyn.. these two girls! made me stay the course.. and I stayed Carolyn .. Natasha.. Natasha .. Carolyn of one same essence .. two of them are made.
